D High voltage parts and cables on the hybrid vehicles emit approxi- mately the same amount of electro- magnetic waves as the convention- al gasoline powered vehicles or home electronic appliances despite of their electromagnetic shieldings. Unwanted noise may occur in the reception of the mobile two−way radio.

D If the vehicle is parked for a long time, the hybrid battery will dis- charge gradually. To keep the hy- brid battery in good condition, drive the vehicle at least once ev- ery several months for at least 30
minutes or 10 miles. If the hybrid battery becomes fully discharged and the vehicle will not start even with a jump start to the 12 volt battery, contact your Toyota dealer- ship.

CAUTION

D The driver should pay special atten- tion to pedestrians when the vehicle is powered only by the traction mo- tor. Because is no engine noise, the pedestrians may mis- judge the vehicle’s movement.

D When you

leave your vehicle, be sure to turn off the hybrid system. D Be sure to put the transmission in the “P” position because the ve- hicle can move when the “READY” light is on even if the engine is stopped. When the “READY” light is on, do not leave your vehicle in a shift position other than the “P” and “N” positions. The vehicle will creep and start abruptly if the ac- celerator pedal is depressed by mistake. This may cause death or serious injury.

D When you leave your vehicle, or stop or park for a while, put the transmis- sion in the “P” position.

D Charging the hybrid battery while driv- ing is important. In the “N” position, the hybrid battery will not be charged. Do not leave the transmission in the “N” position. The motor generator oper- ates in the “P”, “R”, “D” and “B” posi- tions. When you drive, put the trans- mission in the “D” or “B” position and depress the accelerator pedal. Hybrid battery air vent

An air vent is located behind the rear seats to cool the hybrid battery. If the vent is covered, the battery will over- heat resulting in reduced performance of the hybrid system. You may hear a noise from the air vent.

For vehicle repairs or maintenance, be sure to consult your Toyota dealer. If your vehicle is beyond repair, contact your Toyota dealer for assistance. Do not attempt to dispose of your vehicle by yourself.

CAUTION

D Do not wash the vehicle interior or trunk. Because the hybrid battery is located behind the rear seat, pour- ing the water over the battery can cause electric shock that may result in death or serious injury.

D Your vehicle contains a sealed Nick- el−Metal hydride battery. If disposed of improperly, it is hazardous to the environment and there is a risk of severe burns and electrical shock that may result in death or serious injury.

NOTICE

z Clean the air vent regularly to pre- vent the hybrid battery from over- heating.

z Do not put foreign objects over the air vent. The hybrid battery may be overheated and damaged.

z Do not load a large amount of wa- ter such as an aquarium into the vehicle. If water spills over the hy- brid battery, the battery may be damaged.

z Do not spill water over the air vent. This may adversely affect or dam- age the hybrid battery.

Road accident cautions—

CAUTION

D Pull your vehicle off the road, put the transmission in the “P” posi- tion, apply the parking brake, turn the hybrid system off and carry the key.

D In order to avoid death or serious injury, do not touch high voltage wiring, connectors or high voltage parts (inverter unit, hybrid battery and etc.). High voltage parts and cables are indicated in the illustra- tion on page 7.

D If fluid

leaks or gets

D If exposed electric wires are pro- truding inside or outside of your vehicle, an electric shock may oc- cur. Never touch the electric wires. into some parts of the vehicle, never touch it because it may be strong alkaline electrolyte from the hybrid battery. If it contacts your skin or eyes, wash it off immediately with a large amount of water or if possible, bo- ric acid solution. Get immediate medical attention in order to help avoid serious injury.

’07Camry hybrid_U (L/O 0610)

D If a fire occurs in the hybrid ve- hicle, leave the vehicle as soon as possible. Never use a fire extin- guisher that is not meant for elec- tric fires. Using a small amount of water may be also dangerous.

D If your vehicle needs to be towed, do it with the front wheels raised. If the wheels with the motor gener- ator are on the ground when tow- ing, the motor may continue to gen- erate electricity. This may cause the electricity leakage. Depending on the severity of the damage, electric- ity leakage may cause fire. See “If your vehicle needs to be towed” on page 327 in Section 4.

—Emergency shut off system The emergency shut off system blocks off the high voltage current and stops the fuel pump to minimize the risk of the electric leakage and the fuel leak- age when a certain level of impact is detected by the impact sensor. If the system activates, your vehicle will not restart. To restart the hybrid system, contact a Toyota dealer.

CAUTION

D Check to see if there are exposed high voltage parts and cables. Nev- er touch the parts and cables. See “—High voltage components” on page 7 in this Section for the loca- tions of the high voltage parts and cables.

If you find that

D Inspect the ground under the ve- hicle. liquid has leaked onto the ground, the fuel system may have been damaged. Leave the vehicle as soon as pos- sible.
