Immobilizer system (if equipped) Your vehicle is equipped with an elec- tronic engine immobilizer system to reduce the risk of unauthorized vehicle use. Your immobilizer system is comprised of a small transponder in the ignition key and electronic devices inside the vehicle. With the immobilizer system, whenever you insert your ignition key into the igni- tion switch and turn it to ON, it checks and determines and verifies if the ignition key is valid. If the key is determined to be valid, the engine will start. If the key is determined to be invalid, the engine will not start.

To activate the immobilizer system: Turn the ignition key to the OFF position. The immobilizer system activates auto- matically. Without a valid ignition key for your vehicle, the engine will not start.

To deactivate the immobilizer sys- tem: Insert the ignition key into the key cylin- der and turn it to the ON position.

WARNING

In order to prevent theft of your vehicle, do not leave spare keys anywhere in your vehicle. Your Immobilizer password is a cus- tomer unique password and should be kept confidential. Do not leave this number anywhere in your vehi- cle.

✽ NOTICE When starting the engine, do not use the key with other immobilizer keys around. Otherwise the engine may not start or may stop soon after it starts. Keep each key separate in order to avoid a starting malfunction.

CAUTION

Do not put metal accessories near the ignition switch. Metal accessories may interrupt the transponder signal and may pre- vent the engine from being started.

Features of your vehicle

✽ NOTICE If you need additional keys or lose your keys, consult an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

CAUTION

The transponder in your ignition key is an important part of the immobilizer system. It is designed to give years of trouble-free service, however you should avoid expo- sure to moisture, static electricity and rough handling. Immobilizer system malfunction could occur.

CAUTION

Do not change, alter or adjust the immobilizer system because it could cause the immobilizer sys- tem to malfunction and should only be serviced by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer. Malfunctions caused by improper alterations, adjustments or modifi- cations to the immobilizer system are not covered by your vehicle manufacturer warranty.

WARNING - Refueling dan-

gers

Automotive fuels are flammable materials. When refueling, please note the following guidelines care- fully. Failure to follow these guide- lines may result in severe personal injury, severe burns or death by fire or explosion. • Read and follow all warnings posted at the gas station facility. • Before refueling, note the loca- tion of the Emergency Gasoline Shut-Off, if available, at the gas station facility.

• Before touching the fuel nozzle, you should eliminate potentially dangerous static electricity dis- charge by touching another metal part of the vehicle, a safe dis- tance away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle, or other gas source. (Continued)

(Continued) • Do not get back into a vehicle once you have begun refueling since you can generate static electricity by touching, rubbing or sliding against any item or fab- ric (polyester, satin, nylon, etc.) capable of producing static elec- tricity. Static electricity discharge can ignite fuel vapors resulting in rapid burning. If you must re- enter the vehicle, you should once again eliminate potentially dangerous static electricity dis- charge by touching a metal part of the vehicle, away from the fuel filler neck, nozzle or other gaso- line source.

• When using

an

the container on

approved portable fuel container, be sure to place the ground prior to refueling. Static electricity discharge from the container can ignite fuel vapors causing a fire. Once refueling has begun, contact with the vehicle should be maintained until the filling is complete.

(Continued)

Use only approved portable plas- tic fuel containers designed to carry and store gasoline.

• Do not use cellular phones while refueling. Electric current and/or electronic interference from cel- lular phones can potentially ignite fuel vapors causing a fire. • When refueling, always shut the engine off. Sparks produced by electrical components related to the engine can ignite fuel vapors causing a fire. Once refueling is complete, check to make sure the filler cap and filler door are securely closed, before starting the engine.

• DO NOT use matches or a lighter and DO NOT SMOKE or leave a lit cigarette in your vehicle while at a gas station especially during refueling. Automotive fuel is highly flammable and can, when ignited, result in fire.

STEERING WHEEL Electric power steering (EPS) The power steering uses a motor to assist you in steering the vehicle. If the engine is off or if the power steering sys- tem becomes inoperative, the vehicle may still be steered, but it will require increased steering effort. The motor driven power steering is con- trolled by a power steering control unit which senses the steering wheel torque and vehicle speed to command the motor. The steering becomes heavier as the vehicle’s speed increases and becomes lighter as the vehicle’s speed decreases for optimum steering control. Should you notice any change in the effort required to steer during normal vehicle operation, have the power steer- ing checked by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

CAUTION

• If the Electric Power Steering System does not operate normal- ly,the warning light will illuminate on the instrument cluster. The steering wheel may become diffi- cult to control or operate abnor- mally. Take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the vehicle checked as soon as possible.

• When you operate the steering wheel in low temperature,abnor- mal noise could occur. If tempera- ture rises, the noise will disap- pear. This is a normal condition.

Features of your vehicle

✽ NOTICE The following symptoms may occur dur- ing normal vehicle operation: • The EPS warning light does not illumi- nate. • The steering effort is high immediately after turning the ignition switch on. This happens as the system performs the EPS system diagnostics. When the diagnostics is completed, the steering wheel will return to its normal condi- tion. • A click noise may be heard from the EPS relay after the ignition switch is turned to the ON or LOCK position. • A motor noise may be heard when the vehicle is at a stop or at a low driving speed. • If the Electric Power Steering System does not operate normally, the warn- ing light will illuminate on the instru- ment cluster. The steering wheel may become difficult to control or operate abnormally. Take your vehicle to an authorized HYUNDAI dealer and have the vehicle checked as soon as possible.

• When you operate the steering wheel in low temperature, abnormal noise could occur. If temperature rises, the noise will disappear. This is a normal condition.
