This section describes some of the basic features on Toyota audio systems. Some information may not pertain to your sys- tem. Your audio system works when the ignition key is in the “ACC” or “ON” position. TURNING THE SYSTEM ON AND OFF Push “PWR·VOL” to turn the audio system on and off. Push “AM”, “FM”, “FM1”, “FM2”, “TAPE” or “DISC” function without pushing “PWR·VOL”. You can turn on each player by inserting a cassette tape or compact disc. You can turn off each player by ejecting the cassette tape or compact disc. SWITCHING BETWEEN FUNCTIONS Push “AM”, “FM”, “FM1”, “FM2”, “TAPE” or “DISC” if the system is already on but you want to switch from one function to anoth- er. TONE AND BALANCE For details about your system’s tone and balance controls, see the description of your own system. Tone How good an audio program sounds to you is largely determined by the mix of the treble and bass levels. In fact, differ- ent kinds of music and vocal programs usually sound better with different mixes of Balance A good balance of the left and right stereo channels and of the front and rear sound levels is also important. Keep in mind that if you are listening to a stereo recording or broadcast, changing the right/left balance will increase the vol- ume of one group of sounds while de- creasing the volume of another.

YOUR MP3 PLAYER MP3 files specifications or media formats registering their specifications which your MP3 player can operate are limited. For details, see page 133.

YOUR COMPACT DISC PLAYER (type 1) When you insert a disc, gently push it in with the label side up. The compact disc player will play from track 1 to the end of the disc. Then it will play from track 1 again.

NOTICE

Never try to disassemble or oil any part of the compact disc player. Do not insert anything other than com- pact discs into the slot.

The player is intended for use with 12 cm (4.7 in.) discs only. YOUR COMPACT DISC PLAYER WITH CHANGER (type 2) When you insert a disc, push the “LOAD” button and gently push the disc in with the label side up. The compact disc player will play from track 1 to the end of the disc. Then it will play from track 1 of the next disc. The player is intended for use with 12 cm (4.7 in.) discs only.

1 2 3 4 5 6 (Preset buttons) These buttons are used to preset and tune in radio stations. To preset a station to a button: Tune in the desired station. (See “TUNE” knob or “SEEK” button.) Push and hold down the button until you hear a beep—this will set the station to the button. The button num- ber will appear on the display. To tune in to a preset station: Push the button for the station you want. The but- ton number and station frequency will ap- pear on the display. These systems can store one AM and two FM stations for each button. (The display will show “AM”, “FM1” or “FM2” when you push “AM”, “FM1” or “FM2”.)

When the audio system is set into com- pact disc operation, the display shows the track currently being played. If the player malfunctions, your audio sys- tem will display the following error mes- sages. If “WAIT” appears on the display, it indi- cates that the player unit may be too hot due to the very high ambi- ent temperature. Remove the disc from the player and allow the player to cool down. it If “Err 1” appears on the display, indicates the disc is dirty, damaged, or it was inserted up−side down. Clean the disc or insert If “Err 3” or “Err 4” appears on the display, it indicates there is a trouble in- side the system. Eject the disc or maga- zine. Push “FM1” or “FM2” to turn on the radio and select the FM band. “FM1” or “FM2” will appear on the display. This system allows you to set twelve FM stations, two for each button. If the audio system is off, you can turn on the radio by pushing “FM1” or “FM2”. Also, push “FM1” or “FM2” to switch from compact disc operation to radio operation. SEEK (Seeking) Radio In the seek mode, the radio finds and plays the next station up or down the station band. To seek a station, quickly push and re- lease the “” or “” under the “SEEK”. Do this again to find another station. ST (Stereo reception) display Your radio automatically changes to stereo reception when a stereo broadcast is re- ceived. “ST” appears on the display. If the signal becomes weak, the radio reduces the amount of channel separation to prev- ent from creating noise. If the signal becomes extremely weak, the radio switches from stereo to mono recep- tion.

TEXT Compact Disc Player This button is used to change the display for the compact disc that contains text data. To change the display, quickly push and release the “TEXT” while the compact disc is playing. The display changes in the order from the elapsed time to disc title to track title, then back to the elapsed time. If this button is pushed while a compact disc that does not contain text data is playing, “NO TITLE” will appear on the display. If the entire disc or track title does not appear on the display, push and hold it until you hear a beep. The rest of the title (up to 24 letters) will appear.

TUNE·FILE (Tuning and File up/down) Radio Turn the knob clockwise to step up the frequency. Turn the knob counterclockwise to step down the frequency. MP3 Player Turn the knob clockwise to file up. Turn the knob counterclockwise to file down.

MP3 Player This button is used to change the display for the MP3 file that contains text data. To change the display, quickly push and release the “TEXT” while the MP3 file is playing. The display changes in the order from the elapsed time to folder name to file name to album title to track title to artist name, then back to the elapsed time. If this button is pushed while a MP3 file that does not contain text data is playing, “NO TITLE” will appear on the display. If the entire text data is not displayed, push and hold it until you hear a beep. The rest of

Compact disc To eject one compact disc only: Push and release the compact disc eject button. LOAD This button is used to load the compact discs in the compact disc changer which is integrated with the radio and cassette player. This compact disc changer can store up to 6 discs. The key must be in the “ACC” or position. km or 25 miles. When driving away from a station you may have to fine−tune your radio and turn up the volume as the sta- tion gets weaker. Because FM uses a line−of−sight signal, tall buildings or hills may sometimes block reception. These are all normal characteristics of FM recep- tion and do not indicate any problem with the radio itself.

is intended for use with 12 cm (4.7 in.) discs only. D Extremely high temperatures can keep your compact disc player from working. On hot days, use the air conditioning to cool the vehicle interior before you listen to a disc.

D Bumpy roads or other vibrations may make your compact disc player skip. D If moisture gets into your compact disc player, you may not hear any sound even though your compact disc player appears to be working. Remove the disc from the player and wait until it dries.

m3u— Playlists created using the “WINAMP” soft- ware have a playlist file extension (.m3u). MP3— MP3 is short for MPEG 1 & 2 Audio Layer 3. It is an audio compression standard set by a working group (MPEG) of the ISO (International Standards Organization). MP3 is able to compress audio data to about 1/10 the level of a conventional disc.

CD−DA— CD−DA is an abbreviation of Compact Disc Digital Audio. It refers to the uncom- pressed format of regular CDs. ID3 Tag— This is a method of embedding track−re- lated information in a MP3 file. This em- bedded information can include the track title, the artist’s name, the album title, the music genre, the year of production, com- ments and other data. The contents can be freely edited using software with ID3
Tag editing functions. Although the tags are restricted to the number of characters, the information can be viewed when the track is played back.
