AHHHHH i can answer this

I had a stock N14 TI with a 4 speed and SR20DE and I did the standing quater in like 17 seconds.

Thats with 40 litres of fuel and a mate with a nokia phone in the passenger seat. and 400m spray painted on the road.

So work around that

HAHAHAHA biggrin.gif

Commodores (stock)couldn't beat me (be about neck and neck) (Raced my ex gf's VT) but anything modified would slaughter me. Even when i put on a zorst and pod etc, still. Don't expect miracles.

SSS are no different just have different suspension. Likewise, dont expect miracles.

Have a look at the 'Professional Golfers Association' website HERE smile.gif

It will have everything you need to know about N14 SSS thumbsup.gif

They are bloody slow (I own one...)
Get a Vtec honda.. they're quicker, much quicker!

Don't bother working the n/a engine.. really just a waste of money.
Do the gtir conversion or shove an sr20det into it.
Front cut gtir you will get for .. roughly $4,000 then to get it installed.
Or you can just source an sr20det...

N15 SSS are ok, I've ran a few....... Everytime, I've been in front though..

As for fuel consumption for N14 2.0L.. expect around 300-400kms...

they're not fast.
they're a zippy daily, and that's about it.
one of the most overrated "fast cars" ever tongue.gif

used to own one to.
n14 + u12 sr20det = goodness, but why not just get a silvia instead?

Because sillyvia's are too common.

But yer, mkerr knows where I'm coming from.. hsdance.gif
Performance wise, they are rather sad.gif

If you want a NA SR20 I would recommend getting a S13 SR20DE....

or even a Datto 1200 ute with a SR20DE

SSS's are great na cars. they will beat your lancers, and give the vtir's a good run. beat commodores? depends which.

DAL32
Post #16

I also beat Commodores in the Lancer. (not all the time)

I never use a decent launch either - otherwise it draws more attention (wheels lose some traction)

I am not claiming my car's faster than a 2 litre Pulsar, I'm just saying the driver of that one must have sucked because personally I have been destroyed by SSS's before..

EDIT: I just looked up some figures and the difference in power to weight is only 5kw so the only thing in it really is driver skill and reaction times

With a few decent mods eg filter, exhuast some head work there wont be many 4-6cyl n/a cars beating you. I've beaten a few commo's - held my own against a few highly modded cars too.

As for getting a silvia instead...well i hate the look of the s13's...s14's and s15's are a different story cool.gif

They didnt go to bad i had a good race against one in my old GTi i say the pulsar would run around 16- 16.5 oh how u drive it??

qwk_R6
Post #19

my brother had one and once he put a new clutch in it and a zorst it would beat an auto commo and only lose manuals once they got to about the 140 km/h mark. they are prob the fastest na 4cyl that u dont pay biggish insurance for and there are a lot of mods that are available for them

mkerr
Post #20

for the record.
insurance in the SSS's is insane.
just get a Q or Ti with an sr20.

Fixxxer
Post #21

Most auto Commo's will do a 16.2-16.5 depending if they have a minor mod or not. I've seen pulsars stock, do around 16.5, with extractors/exhaust /filter do anywhere from 15.9+ and with a chip do anywhere from 15.5+

The new lancers have 92KW from what I remember, so I dunno who said a 5KW difference before, but its actually 13KW and they weight around the same (1150kg for a N15SSS). More revs on board in a pulsar, they should cr@p all over lancers. I can't believe that mitubishi sell the VRX for so much, and you still get the pansy motor... poor form.

If you can drive you can stockers in the 15s

an n14 sr20de will spank an s13 sr20de any day of the week.

as for morons saying dont work the n/a engine, wack a set of cams in and an exhaust and you can run 14s. not bad for what it is

MaDDoG
Post #23

exhaust and cams and run 14 seconds? with how much nitrous would you need?

Methinks some of the figures in this thread be exagurated.

15's stock? Show me a timeslip.

i own a bottom of the range 93 prelude (F22a SOHC 2.2l) with a dickload of km's on it and have beaten a sss before, as others have said ur looking in the mid to high 16's out of a stocker....

it'll beat SOME commodores... and it will beat SOME N/A 4cyl....

but then again it'll get eaten by the others

Nissan Pulsar SSS (N14 series)
Here’s a popular one with buyers that can’t get ‘turbo’ insurance.

The 1991 – 1995 (N14 series) Nissan Pulsar SSS is widely viewed as a quick hatch that’s a good alternative to a turbocharged car. Granted, the N14 SSS employs the wonderful SR20DE between its front strut towers but, sorry, it’s not the speed machine that everyone seems to think. Not with 105kW shifting about 1200kg - 9.0 second 0 – 100 km/h acceleration is the stuff everyday six-pot family cars are made of. Sure, you can quicken things up slightly with an exhaust, intake and ECU mods, but on a regular occasion you’ll still be mincemeat.

It’s about now you’ll wish you had a turbo!

The N14 SSS is a good all-rounder but don’t be sucked into thinking it’s anything more than that. At current prices – anywhere up to AUD$14,000 for one with a couple of bolt-ons – it seems people have false impressions...

way cheaper now tho.

I very much doubt an N14 SSS would come close to a 15 or high 14... My Clio perhaps pulls a high 14 or very low 15 and will beat most on the road up to 100kmph (reaching it in around 6seconds) i've flogged SSS's before. I was going to say high 16's or low 17's for an N14, even an N15.

According to the PGA (Pulsar Group of Aus.) Drag Times

14.7 is the fastest for a N/A N14, then 14.8, 14.9, 15+

These cars of course been modified but thats just proof that it is possible to run in the 14's.

Oh and for those wondering - Turbo n14's are capable of 12.5-13.5 for the 1/4.

The other day I was reading about a JDM pulsar that had a SV16DE (that is not the correct engine code I am sure, though it is similar) it has 140 kw and is apparently the most powerful N/A 1.6L that has come out Japan. Someone should look at importing this.

N14's are pretty quick for a 2l car but its nothing like turbo!
i must admit they go pretty good for a N/A car beats all lancers and give v6 comms a lil bit of a go depending on the year!

ill tell you whats a surprise the honda accords now they are quick cars for N/A!

Owned 2 N15 SSS's Series II and I have to say they have been the best 4 cyl's I have owned. The max torque figure may put you off but the SSS has a pretty damn flat torque curve. I remember a while back when I frequently read up on Pulsar Group of Aus forums that a member ran a 15.9 sec in a stock N15 SSS Series II. And many members have run mid to low 15's with the usual mods (full zaust, mod, advanced ignition timing).

At one stage I was going to trade in my SSS for either a Clio Sport 172hp or a Pug 206 GTI180 but after the test drives I didnt see the point. Only real downside of a SSS compared to these hardcore euros is the handling. Speed-wise there is minimal differences. And how it is claimed a clio sport 172hp model (older one) can run a very low 15 out of factory and a every low 7 0-100m is very optimistic. In many reviews and mags testing (Motor, Wheels, etc) the new clio sport 182hp cup model can barely get it down to 15.4's.

For the price and reliability a N14/N15 SSS is damn fine. But if ya cashed up stick to a euro hot hatch (clio sport, 206 gti 180, new golf gti, etc) tongue.gif.

simpletool
Post #33

a few year old clio sport 172 is almost exactly the same speed as a 182 cup in a straight line. (And quicker than a new celica w/exhaust on the street by some way it seems.)

The N14 SSS pulsar at around 6-9grand is a bargain.
It's not just quick (ish) they are reliable, handle well and so just by one if you have 5-9 grand and don't mind a FWD.

Really, well i have timeslips here that say otherwise. and this table here says otherwise as well.....i think you are misinformed of the sss's potential, however big or small it may be.
But as i said before factory states a 16.9 for a standard sss.
