Why an sr, all that effort could be put into a much better engine combo, s50 with a turbo on the side would dust nearly every sr you could find and won't sound like a tractor either |

why are you looking at sr OR 2j?? IMO they should not go in the same sentence... You are comparing two different ends of the scale here. so here is the answer. You want a very mildly powerful cruiser that sounds like a 318 diesel go SR You want something that will be a quick street car with the potential to run 11's then go 2J fixed if performance isn't just the sole aim, it's important, just sayin' |

This is a joke. Why destroy a good bmw? Turbo your m44 and get a low compression head over the jap crap. Boosters need to see that just cause you get bmw and want it fast, that a cheap upgrade to jap is outrageous. An s50b32 euro spec would be awesome, you want the euro spec as they have more power stock than aus or usdm spec motors. |

An s50b32 euro spec would be awesome, you want the euro spec as they have more power stock than aus or usdm spec motors. Not just that but the e46 m3 came with that motor. Therefore it is a way more simple conversion, yiu keep your bmw with some sense of class, and with a turbo, it will not only sound like a supercar, but chop everything you put it up against. Im saving for a s54 atm for my e36. Went through the ls1, rb25 all that, and quite frankly.cant stomachs the thought of putting one.in my car. For a cheaper option they are great, and thats about it. Join some bmw forums and talk to people there, performance upgrades to an s50, especially a turbo, will see a stupid ly bigger and better return not just in kw, but get some craZy torque. Bmw over Nissan anyday of the week imo. Ugh euro Smug. |

Here's a good conversion. Sell the 318i, buy a 330i. You don't even have to pay some chump to swap the motors out. |

An sr would still make decent power. Its all well and good to say put a 2jz or rb25 in it but when putting a straight 6 in a car that came out with a 4cyl it really take a huge amount of effort to make it handle the way it should again. I hope you're trolling. Because the 3er is really designed for a straight 6. |

Nah I wasn't. I thought all the 3 series had 4cyl in them. Carry on. every 2 series has had inline 6's in them. but carry on. and a s50 makes 236 kW/ 317 hp at 7400 rpm and 258 lb·ft 350 N·m from factory n/a so it can only got up from there with a turbo |

A. there is no such thing as a 2 series? B. the 3 series bmw, from e36 upwards, were designed around a STRAIGHT 6 motor, these were in the 320, 323, 325, 328, 330, 335 etc. the only 3 series bmw to ever have 4cyl motors are the 318 variants. C. but carry on |

S54 out of a E46 M3, 10:5:1 CR Pistons, Head studs, MLS Gasket, E85. Leave Everything else stock & pump 15.5Psi through it. Make a lazy 792rwhp...... |

thanks everyone for your input the only reason i was saying sr is because of fuel consumption that's all i never thought about a s50 or what ever but thanks for everyone's insight |

Leave everything else stock? Not much looks stock in that engine bay... Internal wise I'm talking. The only other aftermarket things in the bay is basically all the braid, Short runner manifold & catch cans/ reservoirs out of ally & Injectors. Which TBH isn't all that expensive, you just have to accept the fact that you can't go and buy a bolt in catch can or reservoir off the shelf from japan. Most likely can buy a bolt in short runner manifold though. In my eyes thats pretty minimal mods for close to 800hp. |
