So, my brother lost his only key to his car and went and got a new one cut by some mob at the gabba.

now he can only unlock the car with the key itself and not the central locking and when he opens the door the alarm goes off.

the instructions fromthe supplier were toput the key in and fire it up and let it run for 30 seconds.

is this correct or does the ignition need to be turned to on and left for 30 seconds.

we tried taking one battery terminal off and leaving it for a bit but when you put it backon the terminal to the battery the alarm goes off.

are there any other ways to reset the computer so that the alarm doesn't go off?

vehicle details are a 2005 VZ SSZ ute

cheers

Was the new key coded to the car? Did they get the VIN number of the vehicle?

yeah it's set to the vin butthe key is not coded so the key only unlocks it you can't unlock it with central locking

Unlock door
Insert key and leave in the ON position for 30 seconds while the BCM talks to the Key
Start Car
BCM and Key are linked smile.gif

They might not have coded the key properly, do you know what they used to code the key??

Other option, take it to an Auto electrician or Locksmith to get the key head coded in properly.

But then he needs to take it to Holden, auto electrician and Lockie can go to him, 5 minutes on site jobs done... Or book it in to holden, tow car, leave it there for the whole day...

the leave it in the ignition for 30 seconds is bullshit, you need to get the remote part coded to the bcm, ie take it to holden.

otherwise 1286x more holdens would be getting knocked off because it would take more than 30 seconds for most people to realise there car alarm is going off, put some clothes on and gtf there..

Be sure to tell Mister Minit that next time you go past one... they give the instructions out over the counter when you buy a new key.

I replaced the key to my VY twice and that is literally all it takes.

Only if it has been programmed properly. If the number coming from the key doesn't match the bcm number then it will have the same symptoms as it does now.

I have a VZ SSZ as well and had the same problem.

I called a mobile locksmith and he came to me and sorted it out. I forget his name, but I remember he had a red Hilux. His number is 0412 731 728.

Okay , leaving it in the ignition in the ON position so it can talk to the BCM will allow you to start the car and DRIVE it into a dealership, where they can code it to the car for you and BAM you have a working key again.
When you drive it into the dealership, don't turn it off, or you have to over ride it again ... DONE !!

Edit: and I am pretty sure it's longer than 30 seconds too, every model was different (in the older cars anyway) but from memory it's anywhere between 1/2 hour to an hour....

It's actually 60 mins to over ride the factory security.

Insert key, turn to on position, leave in on position for 60 mins, then start car.

It still needs to be coded to the bcm, so this will get you to the dealership.

I know, I have done hundreds of them... And as Twincam said leaving it on for 60 minutes drains the power for the immobiliser so you can bypass it, but once the car is started you will have to do it again. Make sure you have a jumper pack on the battery because even if the car doesn't start, once you turn the key you will have to wait up to an hour again.

SO have I , what's your point?

Umm and I am pretty sure twincam didn't say that leaving it on drains the power ?

Overriding the system, by leaving the ignition on for an hour , will allow you to start the car, and by starting the car, will allow you to drive it into a Holden Dealership, where they will be able to program the key to the BCM ! !! If you were to drive to that dealership and turn the car off, then you will have to put the car back into the ignition on position and wait another hour for it to over ride again ..

It's not exactly what he said, but that's what happens when you leave the key on, but you know this because you have done them before...

That's pretty much repeating what I said. Instead of going through all this shit and having to deal with the dealer, why wouldn't you just pay that little bit more and instead of getting someone like Mister Minute to cut the key and not do the job properly, call out a Locksmith. Job would be done in 10 minutes..

I bet most auto electricians will be cheaper than a holden dealership to get it re-coded to BCM wink.gif

Same happened to our car and we did the buy the key 30 second thing but no good as batter can't start it how can u read key.Anyway in the end we worked out that it wasn't because the key w as broken it was because I used the key in door and turned twice to alarm and imobolizer on that's y it wouldn't start even with key and battery might be flat if so try as I did as we wasted 200 on a key we had to buy as we called mobil locksmith so don't try a new key with flat battery as it need to be started to read it.

I was driving down the freeway pulling my trailer when suddenly my car completely cut, my dash started flashing with low fuel light, service car soon and the red key lock. A couple days the temperature warning flashed then dropped back down soon after. I’ve recently have had it serviced. Once pulled over my car wouldn’t start. I’ve been running with both keys, buttons broken. I’ve been unlocking nd locking car with just the key. Has this happened to anyone. My cars was towed to the mechanic and his told me that once placed on the computer it says that theirs a miss connection with car computer. Who can help me coz his told me can’t.
