expensive.

Very big dollars, unless you have upwards of $10k to do it properly then don't even consider it.

Fairrrrr enough lol do you know anyone that has done this before ??

I know people who have played with the 2GR-FE (essentially a destroked version of your engine designed to be mounted EW) and have gotten completely bullshit power figures with stock internals, but they had huge budgets to work with.

Bullshit piwerfigures as in good ones or bad ones ??

I have thought about doing this myself, instead of twin turbos, just one single turbo. A good size would probably be a 35R from an XR6 turbo. Keep the boost low 10-12psi it would make bulk power and still have massive torque.

The most expensive part is getting all the complex manifolds, dump pipe and exhaust made. Luckily i can do all that myself :D

I'm not sure what the ecu is like in new toyota's, if they can be "flash" tuned or if they have to be replaced with a full aftermarket system.

i'd love to see one completed, it would be a great project. i just dont have the time to do it.

Heard talks of ~400rwhp with standard compression and +600rwhp with built engines. Keep in mind these are revvier engines and have dual VVTI (I don't think your engine does), so power figures could be a bit out of your reach without investing in aftermarket internals or running E85/non-pump fuel.

A lot of your problem is going to come down to tuning. I know your key immobiliser is tied in with the ECU so I can't see you being able to remove it completely and I wouldn't trust an expensive engine like that to a piggyback. There are ways around this, however it's not cheap (you essentially have a full aftermarket ECU wired in on top of your existing ECU, and then disable the outputs for the factory ECU while giving it a dummy signal so it thinks everything is fine).

Excuse my stupidity, but isn't it as easy as bypassing the immobiliser when the new ecu is wired in. I have wired in afew aftermakert ecu's on different types of cars. But i have never run into any problems with an immobiliser???

a mate of mine was going to do it but decided to supercharge instead, made good power but then blew it up so wwent a full built and supercharged 1uz instead :D

Thanks for all the feedback guys. Looks like all the troubles are going to be hooking up the ecu. Thanks again guys

Don't know what other peoples experience with these 4l manuals, but my mate blew 3 diffs in the first 60 thousand ks with some minor towing nbit of hard driving at times, none more than any other car couldn't put up with, so this could defiantly need attention, great sounding project though, defiantly gonna need brake suspension clutch possible gearbox work to if you want any power so has the potential to blow the budget

there was a guy on here with a single turbo fitted. But its mounted under the floor pan and came in kit form. Not sure how that would go with beach driving....

How did I forget this? Apart from the TRD kit (hideously expensive), Bullet Cars do a kit too.
