Exactly what he said. You could do a few supporting mods to get ready for a turbo. But are you allowed any mods on your P's?

just do the usual extractors, exhaust and intake. if you get keen maybe a cam. check out www.lcengineering.com for some go fast goodies for the 3rz's

Well they have hottest tradie comps and shit, so why not Australia's fastest tradies ute lol?
OT: Either wait until your off P's and turbo it, or do supporting mods as mentioned. BTW I <3 turb'd 3rz lux's.

Scared its gonna leave you in the dust
Having a hilux with 300+hp really snaps heads when you launch off the lights. And it usually dont matter what car it is cos 9/10 there still sitting at the lights thinking WTF was that

If i saw a ute take off at a million miles an hour from the ligths i'd be hoping his toolbox doesnt fall off the back wink.gif but straightline speed between lights sounds very flat brim to me. Not to mention rediculously uncomfortable, last hilux i was in had a bench, seat a terrible ride, and in the wet with no load would slip and slide all over the place, and not in the good way, i cant imagine any more power in that could be "fun" or "enjoyable"

Again with the typical Flat brim bullshit.
Iam 23 and never wear hats and i own a Hilux 2wd. Yes its lowered and yes it may have chrome grill .......... so what! Whats the big fucking deal. By 90% of the BS on BOOST if i put a chrome grill of bumper on my hilux iam automatic a "Flat brim FAG".
I made my car unique to anyone else. Just like every other person with a car on here, yes some are just trend hoppers who turned up mid way through the scene and fucked it up for everyone.
And suspension can be fixed in a hilux with coil over front suspension and a coilover rear conversion or even a irs conversion.
I planned on doing suspension next in my hilux but iam just so over the bullshit mentality or other so called "enthusiast" who have fucked it up for the people who wanted more then just bloody chrome rims and sssssssssssssssssssssssl springs. And this is my second reason why ive put my hilux up for sale and looking for something normal

If i could flick a match and watch my car burn to the ground and let the insurance pay out the loan it would make my life so much easier

Its unfortunate that your passion for your hilux has been ruined by the flat brim twits, its happening to rallying too, the flat brimmers are jumping camp thanks to pastrana and block. It pained me to see an RS impreza the other day with Monster stickers all over it and a flat capper doing handbrakies in an attempt at the coles gymkhana.

I wasnt calling you a flat brim fag, but the general thing with minitrucks these days is FBF (nicely abbreviated) and you dont seem to fit this stereotype and are bailing out, which is the normal thing to do, i hope it works out for you.

hey mate its not meant to be a fast car, it's built for carrying stuff on it.

If you want to go fast then change the car to a N/A 'sports' car.

big power in something with no traction? sounds fucken awesome to me. How is straightline speed related to flat brimmers? i beleive drag racers fall into that category. Utes are the best base for burnout machines any day of the week. Cause lets face it if you like cars and dont like straightline speed and burnouts you may aswell go give your boyfriend a wristy in the back of his echo.

lol, true that. iv got a 2004 2.7 hilux, done the full exhaust and air intake, had running ruff problems after i fittted the fully sic, awsome, fully hektic pod filter and pipeing. it made a difference, next is a cam.....yeh my name is lowluxxer, wen i joined i couldnt think of anything else. So in no way does it mean i wear flat brim hats and skinny jeans or carry a man bag.

put a sneaky nitros system in it?...how much compression do these things have?....but yeh exhaust cold air intake ussual stuff

cold air intake
exhaust system
cam
port and polish head.
while the head is off u may aswell get a thicker head gasket to prepare it for a turbo.
u could even go into the tuning/performance chip side of things

Rory
Post #19

dont bother with all that, aftermarket ecu first!

Tweak
Post #20

you cant "chip" or "tune" the stock ecu. Bin it and run a after market ecu

You can't chip or tune the stock ecu because the car is made to be a work vehicle. head_wall.gif

What makes you think that I would care about that? rolleyes.gif Because at the end of the day I'll still be laughing at the tool that decided to try make his work ute "go fast" in a straight line.

Theres more to life than skids and going in a straight line.

and what makes you think some1 wanting to do engine mods to their ute is any diff to you moding your bemmer? its personal choice. You do stuff to your bemmer because you like it, people do stuff to their utes because they like them...
doesnt really matter what sort of car it is, some1 will always want to mod it , thats their choice....

Because a Hilux is a fucking commercial vehicle.

I see how you guys like you utes and i respect your passion. Not necessarily the way some go about it,but everyone has thier flavour. But get logical guys. A hilux is not built to go fast for a reason - its built to carry cement mixers, dropsaws and wheelbarrows.

You want a ute? Awesome, good for you. Im happy for you! You want a hilux? Cool man, enjoy your $2500p/w - I havent had a counter meal in ages! You want a ute to go fast? It can be done! You want a hilux to go fast? Bugger that shit off, they dont handle like supercars for a reason.

Sure it can be done, but ive seen someone lower a landcruiser and ive seen someone put a ghetto lift kit in a falcon ffs. Have a look at an SS ute or similiar. For a lot less cash than an engineered conversion, you could have a fast enough ute that is a lot less scary than a fast hilux/rodeo/etc.

They were built to be practical and quick-ish. XR6 turbo springs to mind as well, they hammer!

I can respect you want to modify a car and be original and all that but my humble opinion is to just do it logically.

You can still drive a v6 commodore ute on your P's and make it a lot quicker (Not just faster in a straight line) thn any p plate legal hilux.

who gives a f*** about FBF...? i wear hats all the time i almost live in them, they are FB hats but i dont own a low lux or a ute or ride bikes or ay of that shit, i drive an R34 skyline, i ride mountain bikes/down hill bikes, i like the look of the hats i wear, its my own choice to wear wat hat i want... all the guy asked is wat mods he could do to make his ute a bit quicker then it is, i had a mate who put a supercharged 1uz in his hi lux and lowered it the right way and done all supporting mods, he was no where near a FBF... if you dont wanna help this fella leave your shit for someone else its a CAR FORUM!!!!

OT: exhaust extractors cold air etc buddy... smile.gif good luck

im not into utes at all
but i can say to all the people saying why?????why would you mod a falcon, commodore,import..
1 reason its your personal choice of vehicle
if he want to make it fast, let him make it fast..whats it to you..
people need to stop being so judgemental

as for performance
a company in the us paradise racing are aiming for 300-350hp @ the wheel thats from a full built motor.
if your looking for slight gains without spending big $$$

pod filter
extractors
exhuast
cams
and a few stickers thumbsup.gif

Rory
Post #28

and because its a commercial means its stupid to make it into what you want?
Half the cars people modify arent built to "go fast" from the factory....People put powerful engines into geminis, they handle worse than a hilux, stop worse, everyone here says arh thats the best...
Some1 wants to try and make their daily driver which happens to be a "commercial" ute abit more powerfull, and its OMFG, he wants to do what to this now, he must be a idiot.... i really dont get it...but anyway...

To the OP, if u are serious about getting it "faster" get a aftermarket computer for it, then when ur off ur p's u can look at forced induction, which these motors reposond very well too.

Tweak's Hilux made that with standard internals, 3RZ's are bulletproof, ARE used one in their 180SX which was forged and it made 750rwhp from memory.

slyvy
Post #30

i wouldnt say 3rz's are bulletproof a mate put a turbo on his was only making 215rwhp and a month later blew the head so some internal work would be an idea if going to turbo.

hay mate, a friend of mine put a holden injected 5l into his lux, was absolutly insane, and for all the tossers who say get a different car, they just cant look out side the box, id love to see u end up with a lux that could step out on the high way like my mates did, and to soube, thats gona say "it wont corner or stop" who gives a fuck! not every one likes the same old,,,,, skid pig that will make every ones jaw drop,,,,, sweet!!! dont give up just caus there are tossers out there !!! u should buy the turbo then the after market ecu then the next thing and so on and buy the time u are alowed to have a forced car u will have the wicked set up ready to go on,

so those fiqures of 300hp-350hp was a na motor - not forced
i know these motors handle 400+on standard internals
thats toyota build quality for ya

Mine is stock internals running a gt3582r turbo external gates running at 17psi at 340hp

I'll be the first to admit the steering is abit iffy at times.............. but dont you importers all ways rave about " Coil over suspension" shit that's usually the first fucking thing you guys put in . Now tell me why do ya do it i???? BECAUSE IT IMPROVES THE HANDLING.
Same thing that needs to be done with a hilux. only thing is there is nothing in Australia that we can buy off the shelf and we have to use our brains and research things........and a shit load of trial and error

Ive solved this problem by investing in the right gear to do a coil over conversion which has been proven to work and has been done. But like most things is $$$$.

Wish my life was easy when i could own a 180sx and buy all these fucking bolt on's . Then i would really own a true modified car lol [sarcasm]

A lot of you obviously don't know the potential of these utes. They're pulling 1200-1400hp out of the 3rz in the states. Just a few bolt on mods and you will make 500rwhp very easily. They're the biggest capacity 4 cylinder going around and are very strong motors. We're seeing T60s (they're bigger than GT35s) start spooling at 2000rpm, so they definitely have the capacity to spool some big turbos.

The only thing I can fault the standard motors with is the rods, they don't like to be revved out too far. Apart from that they seem to be fine. With the capacity of the motors you don't need to rev them out too far either because they'll spool big turbos early.

As far as the handling goes it doesn't take much to make them handle a lot better than standard, much like any car.
