From what I understand mushroom = less resistance but don't filter as well as pod's(cone) do, so depends what you want? Personally I think it's one of those neglible things unless you're at the top end of the spectrum where you're so l33t you don't even run a filter |

Personal experience, my panel filter is up for replacement soon after 25,000kms, $90? F**K THAT! It made the car noticeably quicker/improved but if you haven't got the associated mods to back it up, not worth it. I'm just going back to the stock valvoline/repco filters. |

It depends more on the brand and the material than just cone vs mushroom. |

99% of the time just putting a K&N panel in your airbox and nothing else will have no real effect on intake restriction. Most of the restriction comes from the piping, so unless you're replacing those you're wasting your money. |

It depends more on the brand and the material than just cone vs mushroom. Zoom/HPI/Auto Salon/One of those magazines did a fairly comprehensive flow and filter test on a heap of different filters. In the end it was a cheaper brand cone that won overall, the likes of Apexi, HKS and K&N failed fairly miserably. ROCK ON R~R but how well did the cheap ones filter the air? but who cares really unless your driving in lots of dust i run a cheap pod on my car there just wank factor i just like the hekit induction noise and flutter. and K&N dont offer any performance gains acording to them they last something like 1,000,000ks if they are cleaned properly with there products hence saving you money in the long run. |

99% of the time just putting a K&N panel in your airbox and nothing else will have no real effect on intake restriction. Most of the restriction comes from the piping, so unless you're replacing those you're wasting your money. From memory, the 3A Racing cone filters filter out the most particles, while flowing the most. Best thing is they are only $30 each. As Rookie mentioned, all the 'big' brands either flowed more and were about as effective as chicken mesh over your intake, or flowed pitifully and still filtered less than the cheaper varieties. I've heard of foam filters falling to pieces and being sucked into the throttlebody and fucking engines right up - last one I heard/saw was a HKS mushroom filter that did this. 3A Racing was the one ![]() but how well did the cheap ones filter the air? but who cares really unless your driving in lots of dust i run a cheap pod on my car there just wank factor i just like the hekit induction noise and flutter. and K&N dont offer any performance gains acording to them they last something like 1,000,000ks if they are cleaned properly with there products hence saving you money in the long run. And read again; Zoom/HPI/Auto Salon/One of those magazines did a fairly comprehensive flow and filter test on a heap of different filters. In the end it was a cheaper brand cone that won overall, the likes of Apexi, HKS and K&N failed fairly miserably. So again, it was the cheaper brand (3A Racing) that won overall, coming 1st for flow and 2nd for filtration. In contrast, K&N came 4th for flow and 1st for filtration. HKS 6th and 9th, Apexi 7th and 6th and Trust 5th and 7th. That was in Autosalon Issue 51 FYI. ROCK ON R~R |

I've seen a test where those $30 Drift air pods trumped most of the expensive ones |

I found that review done on the air filters: http://www.australianauto.com.au/HTML/Imag...Shoot%20Out.pdf Thing is now whether to try a 3A or get a new K&N... Try ebay for the 3a filters champ. |

Try ebay for the 3a filters champ. Apparently you can get them from supercheap...i guess thats another reason why it seems a bit sus that they are the best air filters for your car... Has anyone else used a 3A filter? |

i cant remember if it was wheels or motor magazine, but anyway they had a renault clio on test, put a k&n pod filter kit, said it actually made the car slower by a noticeable amount, but made the induction sound muuuuch louder. suit yourself i guess yea i put a cone pod on my car for a week, sounded much nicer but had no balls comming up the mountain. So i decided to just buy a new pannel filter, autobarn offered me a price of $115 for a K&N or $87 for a normal one, stuff that, went to repco $107 for k&N and $57 for a normal, fuck that, went to bursons, $20 for a normal one, thatll do, and now im pimpin, lol. |

They actually did a test in zoom or one of those magazines and worked out that the cheap-o cone filter (Blue, unsure of brand) got the best power increase, i dare say that could have something to do with less restricted flow tho that was the one I was talking about, it was the Drift filter |
