Just read through the wheel modification guidebook and there is nothing about the colour of the wheels in the guide. I'd personally call VicRoads and ask directly because you will get a whole bunch of shit answers from people on here. |

There is a guy in Port Melbourne that has some 1930's replica car (looks ancient but is all new and modern and shit under the bonnet) but yeah he has white walls and last I knew he used that as a daily driver. Still dunno if it's legal or not, i'd just call VicRoads man. |

QUOTE(dooges111 @ Feb 15 2009, 12:53 PM) why would they be illegal. how is it any different to the white writing that some tyres come out with. I think he is talking about the whitewalls where the sidewall of the tyre is scuffed with an abrasive wheel, this only takes off a minute amount of rubber for the paint to grab onto the tyre, have a look at my PIG208 sigma for a finished product. I had mine done ages ago and it comes up perfect, never had any problems with the tyres. You would take more meat out of your sidewall scraping a gutter. But personally i think they don't look that hot on big diameter tyres |

The guys in the posts above me are on the money about scuffing and adding paint to make white walls. It is Illegal, but also it is a Insurance issue. Even though it would be a minimal amount of side wall lost, you are altering the original side wall deeming the tyre un-roadworthy. In most cases after accidents, Insurance companies replace tyres with side wall scuffs for the same reason. And the first thing the Police do after pulling you over is inspect the condition of your tyres, side walls included. |

QUOTE(Croma @ Feb 20 2009, 03:44 PM) white walls are white walls.. Is it different cause the tyres will be painted, instead of being white from the factory? ![]() Original white walls were made from natural rubber hence the white, but had to reinforced with black (carbon) rubber to the tread to allow for better traction and endurance. Eventually it was just easier and cheaper to make the entire tyre out of black rubber which became the standard. |

Not really, One is made in a factory to certain standards, the other is a small area of the sidewall scuffed so the paint will stick to it, it cuts through the outer layer of silica in the tyre..... my HR runs Kumho whitewalls, which are obviously ADR approved ![]() my Sigma on the other hand had the "painted whitewalls" I never had a problem structurally with them, but the silica in the tyre did draw itself towards the painted surface turning the painted area an off white/tan colour. But Jamie (Mr Whitewall) supplied a strong tyre cleaner to bring them back to their best ![]() QUOTE(LVNLOW @ Feb 20 2009, 04:00 PM) i dont think they would be illegal its just a white wall lol Depends who you talk too matey |

Just buy Whitewall tires from Antique Tires or some other mob that have them. If you can't afford PROPER whitewalls, flappers are the next best thing. If you can't afford those (fuck.. their like $160 for a set) then don't bother because painted whitewalls look fucking terrible. |
