So you're wondering how the department of transport checks your learner drivers log book as part of the driving test?

The general rule of thumb is of course, to do the right thing, and keep a log book in accordance with the guidelines.

But let me make it simple for you:

  1. Record date, time, hours, rego and odometre reading, etc.
  2. Remember that minimum odometre readings for every registered car is held within the department of transports records, so don't even think about fudging up random odometre readings or you can be in a world of hurt.
  3. Make sure the hours spent driving between locations that you've logged make sense, otherwise you can expect some awkward questions.
  4. Inspectors are known to do full audits and check the accuracy of every single entry.
  5. Minor discrepancies are tolerated, glaring ones will be dealt with harshly.
  6. Don't fill out the entries based on memory, as filling out multiple line entries shows up pretty obviously in a log book (ie, same pen, writing, position, style).
  7. Get it right first time and don't be a dodgy bastard, or you'll just end up in the shit.

Aside from that, you can also see what other people think and their experiences below... there's also a bit of shady advice for those that are that way inclined.

Best of luck in the test!

Just wondering,

does anyone know how they check the learners logbooks? i know theres an assessor, but what does he do in specific, cause it would take WAY to long to read every line individually.

i haven't made any fake entries. im just worried there going to give me a fail cause they may think i made up some:S:S

They just browse over it, make sure nothing looks too suss and then generally will give you no problems with it.

God you're an idiot. Do you even think about what you write and where before hitting that reply button? Or is that answer too obvious?

OT: In most cases they simply peruse entries to ensure it meets the required standards and seems genuine. They're also known to do full audits and check the accuracy of every single entry. Minor discrepancies are tolerated, glaring ones will be dealt with harshly.

Do the time your suppose to do...they brought in the rule for a reason... so that some day, when leaner drivers get the p's that they may actually be able to safely drive on the road rather then just pass a simple driving test...

For me they did, i drove to Nelson bay and back which was a 3-3.5 hour drive and they didnt say anything. My logbook was really messy aswell, scribbles, green texter and all sorts of crap was in it.......all they said was sign here and get in the car.

If you absolutely HAVE to cheat on it, just start off by marking the odometer about 10k less than it currently is then make up the entries with a slowly increasing value for the odometer until when it comes time to hand it in your last mark is just slightly less than it is on the car at the time.

But all i had to do was rock up on the required day thank god.

But say your going from suburb (A) to suburb (B) which is 10 minutes away and you drive around in suburb (B) for a long time due to its an industrial estate and is empty on a sunday.

How do you log that?

I don't get the point of this log book thing. It's so so easy to rig and they'd never know. Pointless.

I dunno, i havnt seen the book or anything, but surely you'd be able to put it in that you went to an industrial estate with a parent practising ect ect..?

Anyhow the question has been answered. We don't need advice on ways in which you thinking would be appropriate to fake it.

does anyone know if they reject logbooks with entries that have different ink in one line (so pretend the odometer was written in a black ink then it was signed off with a blue ink)???

Magic 3 letters that will let you get away with murder, RTN, short for return.

Allows you to go from Sydney to Sydney and drive around for 4 hours without them caring, they don't want learners to suddenly jump in the saddle and drive from Sydney to Perth on a blitz, that would be the definition of insanity, especially on first week.
