Doing some research lookin at a next car..

i've been on ozhonda and from what i could find the type S sits at like 154kw or so and the type R is 145kw.

Was wondering what people think would like to hear from owners of the vehicles which is better.

which generation..?
the DC2 Type R is the more focused the DC5 type S is easier to live with

dont think dc2 come in type s only dc5. i do believe however that both being stock type s will juuuust win? (even though type r is like the sporty based car)

edit -
type r and type s ; do they both have same k20?

while im not a honda expert from a not too distant journal article i remember the Type S DC5 being faster than the Type R DC2

and when you add how good a DC5 looks i think it is a pretty open and shut case

both dc5 series and the Type r from what i know has K20A2 or something and the type S is k20 ( something with a z)

The type s is supposed to respond better to mods, therefore make more power. However it's more of a luxury car and it is abit heavier and less focus compared to the type r. The DC5S would be a pefect daily driver, power wise (with minimal mods) and luxury if you don't plan to track your car.

The DC5R is more of a track car, not as much as a dc2r is, but it is still harsh for daily driving. I know of friends that sold the dc5r because it was not a comfortable daily driver.

not necessarily track it but i'd like to have a quick n/a but with decent driveability

Type R
K20a2 - 147kw
6 speed manual
1160kg
LSD
Recaro's
2001-2004

Type S
K20z2 - 156kw (Same exhaust cam as JDM K20)
6 speed manual
1230kg
no-LSD
Leather trim
Has revised suspension making it slightly stiffer then the pre-face life DC5
2005-2006

Basically, if you start modifying the engine or suspension, throw all the reviews out the window because they'll basically be on par with each other and it'll come down to which one you prefer the look off... or if you want a slightly newer car (type S)

One thing to look out for with the Type R is the notchy 1st-to-2nd gear at high revs... you'd think Honda would fix this with a revised model, but the notchy gear just moves to 2nd-3rd.

45SET - overal how do you like your type R what are some ups and downs to it?

45SET
Post #10

ups:
Looks sporty out of the factory
Interior is perfect... I have changed the headunit and haven't touched anything else.
Basic mods does a world of difference (Coilovers, swaybars, intake, exhaust)
Responds to mods very well.
Puts a smile on my face every time I drive it

downs:
As my car currently stands I'm not sure I would like to use it as a daily... as it can be quiet... harsh (suspension, clutch)
I want to keep spending money on it every 6 months

But when it was stock it was a very nice car as a daily... had power, and was interesting to drive.

masofasn8r
Post #11

im assuming with the Type R having the LSD it would make it the quicker option (from factory) as it would be more able in putting the power to the tarmac???

45SET
Post #12

To tell you the truth... in stock form you really aren't going to know the difference on the street... and you probably won't on the track either. Its not until you add intake, exhaust and ECU that you would really need the LSD. But if you set up the suspension correctly (Coilovers, swaybars, tyres/rims etc) the cars corner VERY well.

masofasn8r
Post #13

to be completely honest the aim for the S/R would be be low on nice wheels and enough balls to say run a high 12...
not too phased with cornering or going around a track... although decent handling would be good but not looking for something spectacular

like that...

45SET
Post #14

high 12s... hmm... you'll need
intake
larger throttle body
intake manifold
cams (And parts to go with the cams)
full exhaust system
ECU (Hondata)

so that's around... oh... 7-8k... its not cheap

But as i said before, it'll be up to you one which one you prefer the look of.

You attachment doesn't work.

masofasn8r
Post #15

sorry bout the attachment... not the best with computers but whats the big diff in looks?

im not too keen on the spoiler so i'd keep it withot spoiler and i'd get some offset wheels
keeping it Jap styled... more of a race theme more then a show pony

I currently own a DC5R and last night worked on a DC5S (intake/coilovers).

Difference in looks is the upgraded lights both front and rear aswell as missing the Recaro's on the Type S.

With the Type S having no LSD, it was very noticeable trying to put the power to the ground.

Yes the DC5S has more power on paper, it didn't seem noticeable. My R and the S had the same intake and exhaust mods.

yep. Either find a LSD from a Type R (can be found on Ozhonda or other Honda forums for around the $300-500 mark) or get an aftermarket item... which is closer to the $800-$1000... and is less daily friendly.

Thank you.

yea theres some pretty cool stuff on ozhonda.com

a little bit of a rougher ride i suppose is an okay price to pay to have a nice and quick type R / S

now the finding of one for a reasonable price is the hard part lol

If it aint a TYPE R
IT aint a Tight car

MYB16
Post #24

I would get an R. Lighter, LSD, amazing seats!!!

But, really the 2 Type-r's and the Type-s are only really seperated by a few tenths, there is nothing in it at all. Therefore it comes down to the opitons list and which model you prefer the look of.

I know I would go an R, but thats just because I love the ideals behind the red Honda badge, even if it is a fair bit softer then the Bremboed 220hp JDM DC5R.

yea i'd agree i'm leaning toward a type R because of the raw feel of them (went for a test drive in one today) feels like a go cart compared to what im driving now lol prefer the headlights and the spoiler can be removed ....

Type-R's in my opinion need a big fuck off wing, they always have (well the Integra's).
