What is the better tyre for occasional track duties out of the Toyo Proxes R888 and the Falken RT615?

Are these the 2 best on the market in that price range?

Im going to put a set on my S15 16" stock rims and use them at QR and the drags.

i did alot of research on these two for the cali. but havent tried them yet.

the 888 seems to be the better all round tyre. falkens have the better grip, but wear off quicker, and also pray that there isnt any wet around.

that pretty much sums up what i have found out. i'm leaning more on trying the 888's 1st. although i love the RT615's tread pattern. but handling>looks

Throw the Bridgestone RE55S in the mix as well, some other guys are throwing these on and they seem to be a little cheaper as well.

Toyo R888 for sprints 5 lap stuff at QR, I don't rate the RT615 as a track tyre but is great as a dry weather street tyre. Both have a large tread block surface so have minimal block movement. RA-1 were common for block movement creating a "squirmy" feel to them when new, but coming less noticeable as they wear down.

Toyo for drags with good clutch control, set your rear cambers to as close to zero degrees as you can. Also set the toe mm, so under launch it gives full contact patch on the ground as the suspension travels in its arc angle. This can be done whilst on the alignment machine with some fat kunts in the boot to simulate full launch. Better to have some M/T Radials for drags tho smile.gif

I have the RT615's on my WRX, they are a good street with occasional track use tyre. When i say occasional i mean 2-3 laps then you have to let them cool off or else they do get a little greasy. But perfect for street as they wont wear out on the street as quick as the R888's will. I would rate the R888 and the RE55 as pure track tyres as they will heat up and cool down very fast and eventualy go off to fast when used as a daily drive tyre.

Definitely the R888's.

My experiences with the TOYO R888's is that I've found them to heat up very quickly to the point where they can be a bit slippery by the 4th and 5th lap of a Sprint session.

They need a really low starting temp; 20 psi or there abouts and they didn't seem to give the same level of grip as my old ADVAN A048's, which tended to take a little longer to heat up.

My race mate has raced on my A048's and now has A050's which he reports have fixed the issues with the old A048's and are a more stable tyre with continuous levels of grip through the session.

Personally I'd look at ADVAN A050's or BRIDGESTONE RE55S's, though neither of them would be any good for drag racing as the side walls are way to stiff if you intend to use them in that capacity.

So far i have only done about 3000kms on them, but then again the car has only done 6000kms tottal. But so far they dont even look anywhere near a quater used, and so far they have seen a fair few mountian drives ect. but i know of other users on www.rexnet.com.au who have done upto 20,000kms with the RT615's.........driving style will ofcourse have different outcomes on that.

yeh + 1 for toyo r888's. stick as... i can't really make to much comment as to how they'd go on a s15 as i'm using them on a micra... weight makes a big difference to how long they will last too (obviously) so if i can get 25k's out of a set of 888's with a car that weighs 600kg's, you might be lucky to get 10-15k's out of the same tyre sad.gif give dave @ tyre works moss st a call if you haven't already sorted out your prices.. he'll generally beat whatever anyone else will give you. p.s, still handle quite well in the wet on the street.
