Buy a tape measure, go to an importers, and measure up.
Your options i think, are limited to 4.2 litres max capacity.
Other than that, if you can imagine it, and have enough lube, most anything possibe.
BTW: whatever your budget is for the conversion, double it, then add another $200 for beer and pizza's.

the capacity restrictions changes if it is forced induction or NA.
But if the motor will physically fit in there it can be transplanted.

But I can tell you now that for the same money you could build up a 2.6 EFI rodeo motor that will annihilate most japs. Matt from PITS put a 2.6 in his gemini, turbo'd it and makes 330hp atw(i think).

If you have the cash why not go for a 1J or a 2J swap?
At the end of the day a decent legal conversion, with all associated parts, i.e brakes, fuel system, wiring etc will cost you, from what I've seen quite a bit of cash.. (at the very least $5K - $8K)

nah the money is abit tight atm and im pretty lucky i go for my p's on the 28th of june and i have to go from strathpine north of brissy all the way to caloundra to get it everywhere is booked out until after july 1st cause of them laws coming in hopefully i get it and, if i do i will be looking into getting a sr20det i think that will satisfy me

definitely get the sr20, try get a black top one though out of the new 200 sx's an stuff, that would be a machine if you put one in your ute, I prefer muscle my self, but I think you got the right option, and they fit in to a lot of cars with a few mods

awesome yeah ill try how much of a diff between black and red , its just red is a bit more common from what ive seen and less pricey, if anyone else has put a sr engine in a ute on here can you post up i need to know what ill need to do it

Does no one do a search on here anymoe???? RB series engines wil not....I repeat WILL NOT fit in the Rodeo engine bay without cutting the firewall - not an option in a street car. Nor will a 1J/2J.

Yes....if you feel you must have an engine transplant, go SR20 - it is ridiculously easy to swap. The heater hoses lineup with the firewall, The stock rodeo throttle cable hooks straight up. The fab required for the engine & gearbox mount adaptors is simple as & you can use factory rodeo mounts - if done correctly the stock sump just clears as well. Silvia radiator fits straight in.

If you are serious about doing this swap, email me at [email protected] & I will email you back a heap of pics of a swap which was done in my back yard.

Personally....Go with a modded 4ZE1 - less hassles, less wasted money, less mod plates required.....just less to be done overall to do it.

why isint cutting the firewall on a street car an option ?
have you measured a 1j / 2j to fit ??

i agree with modding the 4ze1! theres people making 500 HP out of them..

The instant you start cutting into the firewall the cost goes up in terms of getting the engineering certificate passed, not to mention the headaches you'll have once a DOT/COP pulls you over & sees it done & puts you on "The List".

As for 1J/2J....No I haven't actually pulled the tape on one, but I have pulled a tape on & RB & they definitely too long to fit in there. From visual recollection the 1J/2J's are comparable in length to the RB's

ok so it is an option for a street car then, as all it does is add to the cost of your engineers report (fuck all in comparison to an engine conversion) that your going to need anyway.

i havnt measured a j engine either, but im 90% sure ive seen one done on the net, without firewall mods.
but i'll try to find that before i say you can..

I want to get some more power out of my rodeo engine...what would be some good options to start...i got extractors, straight through exhaust no cat:)...got a pod filter just sitting in engine bay which i will eventually block of from engine heat and get CAI. Im thinking piazza turbo, just exhaust manifold and turbo and keep rodeo intake manifold, can i do this...and about how much would it cost me all up for like extra bits etc

Shitty Piazza exhaust manifold - $150
Piazza pindick turbo that would be to small to use on a cappuccino machine - $150

Gemracing manifold - $500
Decent t28 - $300

ECU – anywhere from $600 to $2000 depending what u use and if its new or used.
Fuel system upgrade - $250 on the cheap.
Plumbing few hundred. maybe $300
Dump pipe and exhaust - $600
Misc items - $1000

Then you have labor on top of that seen as if you have to ask “what needs to be done” I doubt u can actually do it yourself

Then you have mod plate costs aswell.
