hey people jus wanted to know what people think about the vs commodore shape, style, performance etc compared to that of the vt/vx shape. as i understand the vs, vt and vx have the same motor but the vt and vx are heavier, there for needing more modification of the engine and so fourth to get it up and going. also i'd like to know people's opinions on which model they think is more ideal to modify. appreciate people's opinions and/or comments about either model.

cheers, Johnsey.

probably best off getting the newest possible, which is the VX, low mileage.

Common sense would suggest that if you intend to spend money on modding you should look at the cheaper models however

These are for ecotec engines right? (V6). whats your budget?

in reply to someblackguy yer v6 probably. u can still find a decent vs with around 140,000+ km on the clock though..im looking more at the vs calais prob supercharged. as im going to keep the car for a few years im also planning on converting it to manual.

VT Series 1's i heard had a bit of problems

I got VX Series II wagon, engine puts out 152kw at the fly, well thats the factory specs

An NA V6 commo is gonna need a fair bit of money put into it before its gonna move quick,

VX is better. VTs were pretty ordinary really...

Didn't the VT S1's have steering rack issues?

And isnt there a problem with lowering these commodores because of the IRS something about it puts the camber out :S

Not 100% sure someone please correct me.

Sure is, just like silvia's and 180's. You dump them hard and they get some nuts negative camber on the arse end.

go for the vx. we had a series 2 vt wagon for 12 months, and then we got our vx wagon, both have the xact same engine, but the vx makes the vts feel like absolute shit to drive. the vx's are alot more responsive, and just all round heaps better to drive, definatly go for the vx.

VS's are a good model of commodore and easy to mod etc but its hard to find one these days in good cond, low km's and a good price...

VT's are a bucket of bolts if you ask me every friend of mine that has had on has had nothing but problems with them... but they are pretty cheap to buy these days...

VX's this is the one i would pick, beautiful to drive, most recent model out of the 3 so easier to get one with low km's my ex has a VX series II excutive, hasnt had any probs with it at all.....

Trump everyone and grab a VT series 2. Inbetween the VT and the VX it sorted all the quality problems of the VT and is cheaper than a VX, and you can slot in monaro headlights without having to chop and change the front bar (if that floats your boat)

I think the Vt shape would be more ideal to modify than the VS shape, simply because there is more out there to make them visually stunning. You cant be too serious about making it go fast, because it will end up consuming all of your cash very quickly.

Alternativley, there is the AU falcon.... Maturing in visual appeal and also much cheaper than the commodores, with better build quality. The 4.0L is a much smoother unit than the 3.8L and people who had them tend to look after them better too.

^^ sorry im a holden man lol...im generally not looking at getting an executive though, prob a supercharged calais which is why i was kinda leaning more towards the vs as its cheaper, but on the other hand i like the visual stance of the vx, although its heavier and prob not as quick...and i am considering making it get up and go fairly well especially if its supercharged..

If you are looking at getting a supercharged model you should look at the VX S (Supercharged) i have driven one of them and they do have a decent amount of get up and go...

yer but the vs has the same motor if i remember correctly and seeing as though the vs is lighter and cheaper than the vx i thought that would be the way to go..leaving more money left over for mods etc.

i had to drive both cars for a job at one time.. the vt and the vs... the vt made me fall asleep it was like a boat.. the vs tho... touch stiffer sus and the car would be fun.... would bag up well with some help... was just more fun to drive

Dont even bother buying an auto and converting it later youll spend almost what the car is worth converting the damn thing its not as easy as some people think, but it is hard trying to find a manual i know.
Id be going with the VX most of the problems from VT were ironed out.

Which commodore ever had no faults with the steering pump and so on? um none lol

VX has the best shape IMO and you should probably stick with the newest model smile.gif

correct me if i am wrong but Idont think there was ever a v6 supercharged manual from the factory so if that s what he wants then he will have no choice in the matter.

Also I dont think that you will have alot change left over on any v6 supercharged model to do to many mods to it.

how about u get a series 2 (series 2 are much better then 1) vr/vs commodore and then put an SV6 Alloytech V6 that come stock with 190kw at the flywheel and then if u really want some more power then get a supercharged kit from CAPA and u will have plenty of power and a new engine

I prefer the looks of the VX way over the VT. If you end up getting a VT can you not put Monaro tail lights in it without changing the centre part? Everyone laughs inside at those people. My dad owned a VTII Acclaim once and believe me they're not without their problems. Suspension, brakes, tyre wear issues (17" wheels stock suspension).

VX ftw

i thought the only real visual difference between the VT and the VX was the reflectors in the rear bumper and maybe a different front grill. EDIT - the calais look different, but the exec etc look the same.

personally they all handle like boats and are slow as

also go buy the latest edition of street machines as they are doin a article on gettin hp out of the old v6s

IMO as a Vt owner...dont :S
Get something that will hold its value and none of these models will.
In the end its all up to you and your personal preference, but I would suggest thinking long and hard about how much you are willing to lose in the future. My VT went down 4k in value in 12 months. In saying that it is the most reliable car I have owned, with no mechanical problems/issues at all dunno.gif
