■Reconnecting the portable audio player


If the portable audio player is disconnected due to poor reception when the engine switch is in the “ACC” or “ON” position (vehicles without a smart key system) or ACCESSORY or IGNITION ON mode (vehicles with a smart key system), the system automatically reconnects the portable audio player. If you have switched off the portable audio player yourself, follow the instruc- tions below to reconnect: ●Select the portable audio player again ●Enter the portable audio player

Do not operate the portable audio player, cellular phone or connect a device to the Bluetooth® system.


■Caution regarding interference with electronic devices


●Your audio unit is fitted with Bluetooth® antennas. People with implantable cardiac pacemakers, cardiac resynchronization therapy-pacemakers or implantable cardioverter defibrillators should maintain a reasonable dis- tance between themselves and the Bluetooth® antennas. The radio waves may affect the operation of such devices.


●Before using Bluetooth® devices, users of any electrical medical device other than implantable cardiac pacemakers, cardiac resynchronization therapy-pacemakers or implantable cardioverter defibrillators should con- sult the manufacturer of the device for information about its operation under the influence of radio waves. ●It is unnecessary to speak directly into the microphone when giving a


command.


●Voice commands may not be recognized if:


• They are spoken too quickly. • They are spoken at a low or high volume. • The roof or windows are open. • Passengers are talking while voice commands are spoken. • The air conditioning speed is set high. • The air conditioning vents are turned towards the microphone.


●In the following conditions, the system may not recognize the command


properly and using voice commands may not be possible: • The command is incorrect or unclear. Note that certain words, accents


or speech patterns may be difficult for the system to recognize.


• There is excessive background noise, such as wind noise.

Casual speech recognization


Due to natural language speech recognition technology, this system enables recognition of a command when spoken naturally. However, the system cannot recognize every variation of each command. In some situations, it is possible to omit the command for the proce- dure and directly state the desired operation. Not all voice commands are displayed in the shortcut menu. This function is available in English, Spanish and French. ■ Expression examples for each function

Due to the function of the system, the lights shown in the following illustration automatically turn on/off accord- ing to the presence of the electronic key (vehicles with smart key system), whether the doors are locked/unlocked, whether the doors are opened/closed, and the “ENGINE START STOP” switch mode (vehicles with smart key system) or engine switch position (vehicles without smart key system).

Vehicles with smart key system If the personal/interior lights and “ENGINE START STOP” switch light remain on when the door is not fully closed and the personal/interior light main switch is in door position, the lights will go off automatically after 20
minutes. Vehicles without smart key system If the personal/interior lights and engine switch light remain on when the door is not fully closed and the personal/interior light main switch is in door position, the lights will go off automatically after 20 minutes.

Do not leave glasses, lighters or spray cans in the storage spaces, as this may cause the following when cabin temperature becomes high: ●Glasses may be deformed by heat or cracked if they come into contact


with other stored items.


●Lighters or spray cans may explode. If they come into contact with other stored items, the lighter may catch fire or the spray can may release gas, causing a fire hazard.

Using the seat heater with a blanket or cushion increases the temperature of the seat and may lead to overheating.

Observe the following precautions. Failure to do so may cause the driver’s floor mat to slip, possibly interfering with the pedals while driving. An unexpectedly high speed may result or it may become difficult to stop the vehicle, leading to a serious accident. ■When installing the driver’s floor mat


●Do not use floor mats designed for other models or different model year


vehicles, even if they are Toyota Genuine floor mats.


●Only use floor mats designed for the driver’s seat. ●Always install the floor mat securely using the retaining hooks (clips) pro-


vided.


●Do not use two or more floor mats on top of each other. ●Do not place the floor mat bottom-side up or upside-down.


■Before driving


●Check that the floor mat is securely fixed in the correct place with all the provided retaining hooks (clips). Be especially careful to perform this check after cleaning the floor.


●With the engine stopped and the shift lever in P, fully depress each pedal to the floor to make sure it does not inter- fere with the floor mat.

To avoid injury, always return the cargo hooks to their positions when they are not in use. ■While driving

The garage door opener can be programmed to operate garage doors, gates, entry doors, door locks, home lighting systems, secu- rity systems, and other devices.


The garage door opener (HomeLink Universal Transceiver) is manufac- tured under license from HomeLink.


Programming HomeLink® (for U.S.A. owners)


To ensure correct programming into the HomeLink®, install a new bat- tery in the hand-held transmitter prior to programming. Failure to install a new battery into the hand-held transmitter will affect both the range and accuracy of the HomeLink® in your vehicle. The battery side of the hand-held transmitter must be pointed away from the HomeLink® during the programming process. The HomeLink compatible transceiver in your vehicle has 3 buttons which can be programmed to operate 3 different devices. Refer to the programming method below appropriate for the device.

Test the HomeLink operation by pressing the newly pro- grammed button.


If a HomeLink button has been programmed for a garage door, check to see if the garage door opens and closes. If the garage door does not operate, see if your remote control transmitter is of the rolling code type. Press and hold the programmed HomeLink button. The remote control trans- mitter is of the rolling code type if the HomeLink light flashes rapidly for 2 seconds and then remains lit. If your transmit- ter is of the rolling code type, pro- ceed heading “Programming a rolling code sys- tem”.

■ Programming a rolling code system


If your device is rolling code equipped, follow the steps under the heading “Programming HomeLink” before proceeding with the steps listed below.

Locate the learn button on the ceiling mounted garage door opener motor. The exact location and color of the button may vary by brand of garage door opener motor. Refer to the operation manual supplied with the garage door opener motor for the location of the learn button. Press the learn button. Following this step, you have 30 seconds in which to initiate step 3
below. Press and hold the vehicle’s programmed HomeLink button for 2 seconds and release it. Repeat this step once again. The garage door may open. If the garage door opens, the programming process is complete. If the door does not open, press and release the button a third time. This third press and release will complete the programming process by opening the garage door. The ceiling mounted garage door opener motor should now recog- nize the HomeLink signal and operate the garage door. Repeat the steps above to program another rolling code sys- tem for any of the remaining HomeLink buttons.

Place your transmitter 1 to 3 in. (25 to 75 mm) away from the surface of the HomeLink. Keep the HomeLink indicator light in view while programming. Press and hold the selected HomeLink button. Repeatedly press and release (cycle) the device’s remote control button for two seconds each until step 4 is completed. When the indicator light on the HomeLink compatible trans- ceiver starts to flash rapidly, release the buttons. Test the operation of the HomeLink by pressing the newly programmed button. Check to see if the gate/device operates correctly. Repeat the steps above to program another device for each of the remaining HomeLink buttons.


■ Programming other devices


To program other devices such as home security systems, home door locks or lighting, contact your authorized Toyota dealer for assistance.


■ Reprogramming a button


The individual HomeLink buttons cannot be erased but can be reprogrammed. To reprogram a button, follow the “Programming” instructions.

Operating HomeLink®


Press the appropriate HomeLink button. The HomeLink indicator light should come on.


The HomeLink compatible transceiver in your vehicle continues to send a signal for up to 20 seconds as long as the button is pressed.


Erasing the entire HomeLink® memory (all three programs)


Press and hold the 2 outside but- tons for 10 seconds (or 20 sec- onds depending on the model) until the indicator light flashes.


If you sell your vehicle, be sure to erase the programs stored in the HomeLink memory.

This includes any garage door that cannot detect an interfering object. A door or device without these features increases the risk of death or serious injury.

The direction display deviates from the true direction determined by the earth’s magnetic field. The amount of deviation varies according to the geographic position of the vehicle.


If you cross over a map boundary shown in illustration, the compass will deviate. To obtain higher precision or perfect calibration, refer to the following.

Stop the vehicle where it is safe to drive in a circle.

Push and hold “AUTO” until a number (1 to 15) appears on the compass display.

Press “AUTO”, and referring to the map above, select the number of the zone where you are. Wait a few seconds until the compass direction is displayed. The calibration is complete.


■ Circling calibration


If “C” appears on the display, drive the vehicle at 5 mph (8 km/ h) or less in a circle until a direc- tion is displayed.


If there is not enough space to drive in a circle, drive around the block until the direction is dis- played.

■Conditions unfavorable to correct operation


The compass may not show the correct direction in the following conditions: ●The vehicle is stopped immediately after turning. ●The vehicle is on an inclined surface. ●The vehicle is in a place where the earth’s magnetic field is subject to interference by artificial magnetic fields (underground car park/parking lot, under a steel tower, between buildings, roof car park/parking lot, near an intersection, near a large vehicle, etc.).


●The vehicle has become magnetized.


(There is a magnet or metal object near the inside rear view mirror.)


●The battery has been disconnected.


CAUTION


■While driving


Do not adjust the display. Be sure to adjust the display only when the vehicle is stopped.


■When doing the circling calibration


Be sure to secure a wide space, and watch out for people and vehicles in the neighborhood. Do not violate any local traffic rules while performing circling calibration.

■To avoid the compass malfunctions


Do not place magnets or any metal objects near the inside rear view mirror. Doing this may cause a malfunction of the compass sensor.


■To ensure normal operation of the compass


●Do not perform circling calibration of the compass in a place where the earth’s magnetic field is subject to interference by artificial magnetic fields. ●During calibration, do not operate electric systems (moon roof, power win-


dows, etc.) as they may interfere with the calibration.

4-1. Maintenance and care Cleaning and protecting the vehicle exterior


Perform the following to protect the vehicle and maintain it in prime condition.


● Working from top to bottom, liberally apply water to the vehicle body, wheel wells and underside of the vehicle to remove any dirt and dust. Wash the vehicle body using a sponge or soft cloth, such as a cham- ois.


● For hard-to-remove marks, use car wash soap and rinse thor-


oughly with water.


● Wipe away any water. ● Wax the vehicle when the waterproof coating deteriorates. If water does not bead on a clean surface, apply wax when the vehicle body is cool.


■Automatic car washes


●Before washing the vehicle, do the following.


• Fold the mirrors back. • Turn the power back door system off.


●Brushes used in automatic car washes may scratch the vehicle surface


and harm your vehicle’s paint.

CAUTION


■Caution about the exhaust pipe


Exhaust gasses cause the exhaust pipe to become quite hot. When washing the vehicle, be careful not to touch the pipe until it has cooled sufficiently, as touching a hot exhaust pipe can cause burns.

with low humidity when storing the wheels.


■If the windshield washer nozzle become blocked


Contact your Toyota dealer. Do not try to clear it with a pin or other object. This may damage the nozzle. ■Cleaning the exterior lights


●Wash carefully. Do not use organic substances or scrub with a hard brush.


This may damage the surfaces of the lights. ●Do not apply wax on the surface of the lights.


Wax may cause damage to the lenses.


■To prevent damage to the windshield wiper arms


When lifting the wiper arms away from the windshield, pull the driver side wiper arm upward first, and repeat for the passenger side. When returning the wipers to their original position, do so from the passenger side first.

The following procedures will help protect your vehicle’s interior and keep it in top condition: ■ Protecting the vehicle interior


Remove dirt and dust using a vacuum cleaner. Wipe dirty sur- faces with a cloth dampened with lukewarm water.


■ Cleaning the leather areas


● Remove dirt and dust using a vacuum cleaner. ● Wipe any excess dirt and dust with a soft cloth dampened with


diluted detergent. Use a diluted water solution of approximately 5% neutral wool deter- gent.


● Wring out any excess water from the cloth and thoroughly


wipe off all remaining traces of detergent.


● Wipe the surface with a dry, soft cloth to remove any remain- ing moisture. Allow the leather to dry in shaded and ventilated area.


■ Synthetic leather areas


● Remove loose dirt using a vacuum cleaner. ● Apply a mild soap solution to the synthetic leather using a


sponge or soft cloth.


● Allow the solution to soak in for a few minutes. Remove the


dirt and wipe off the solution with a clean, damp cloth.

■Caring for leather areas


Toyota recommends cleaning the interior of the vehicle at least twice a year to maintain the quality of the vehicle’s interior.


■Shampooing the carpets


There are several commercial foaming-type cleaners available. Use a sponge or brush to apply the foam. Rub in overlapping circles. Do not apply water. Excellent results are obtained by keeping the carpet as dry as possi- ble.


■Seat belts


Clean with mild soap and lukewarm water using a cloth or sponge. Also check the belts periodically for excessive wear, fraying or cuts.


CAUTION


■Water in the vehicle


●Do not splash or spill liquid in the vehicle.


Doing so may cause electrical components etc. to malfunction or catch fire.


●Do not get any of the SRS components or wiring in the vehicle interior wet.


(P. 121) Electrical malfunction may cause the airbags to deploy or not function properly, resulting in death or serious injury.


■Cleaning the interior (especially instrument panel)


Do not use polish wax or polish cleaner. The instrument panel may reflect off the windshield, obstructing the driver’s view and leading to an accident, resulting in death or serious injury.

• Seats: Acidic solutions, such as thinner, benzene, or alcohol.


●Do not use polish wax or polish cleaner. The instrument panel’s or other


interior part’s painted surface may be damaged.


■Preventing damage to leather surfaces


Observe the following precautions to avoid damage to and deterioration of leather surfaces. ●Remove any dust or dirt on leather surfaces immediately. ●Do not expose the vehicle to direct sunlight for extended periods of time.


Park the vehicle in the shade, especially during summer.


●Do not place items made of vinyl, plastic, or that contain wax on the uphol- stery, as they may stick to the leather surface if the vehicle interior heats up significantly.


■Water on the floor


Do not wash the vehicle floor with water. Vehicle systems such as the audio system may be damaged if water comes into contact with electrical components under the floor of the vehicle, and may also cause the body to rust.


■Cleaning the inside of the rear window


●Be careful not to scratch or damage the heater wires or antenna. ●Do not use glass cleaner to clean the rear window, as this may cause damage to the rear window defogger heater wires or antenna. Use a cloth dampened with lukewarm water to gently wipe the window clean. Wipe the window in strokes running parallel to the heater wires or antenna.

To ensure safe and economical driving, day-to-day care and regular maintenance is essential. It is the owner’s responsibility to perform regular checks. Toyota recommends the following maintenance. ■ General maintenance


Should be performed on a daily basis. This can be done by your- self or by a Toyota dealer. ■ Scheduled maintenance


Should be performed at specified intervals according to the maintenance schedule. For details about maintenance items and schedules, refer to the “Scheduled Maintenance Guide”, “Owner’s Manual Supplement”.


■ Do-it-yourself maintenance


You can perform some maintenance procedures yourself. Please be aware that do-it-yourself maintenance may affect war- ranty coverage. The use of Toyota Repair Manuals is recommended. ■Repair and replacement


It is recommended that genuine Toyota parts be used for repair to ensure performance of each system. If non-Toyota parts are used in replacement or if a repair shop other than a Toyota dealer performs repairs, confirm the war- ranty coverage.

Switch the display to the trip meter A when the engine is running. (P. 189) Vehicles with smart key system: Turn the “ENGINE START STOP” switch off. Vehicles without smart key system: Turn the engine switch to the “LOCK” position. Vehicles with smart key system: While pressing the trip meter reset button, set the “ENGINE START STOP” switch to IGNITION ON mode (but do not start the engine because otherwise the reset mode will be canceled). Continue to press and hold the trip meter reset button until the trip meter dis- plays “000000”. Vehicles without smart key system: While pressing the trip meter reset button, set the engine switch to “ON” position (but do not start the engine because otherwise the reset mode will be canceled). Continue to press and hold the trip meter reset button until the trip meter displays “000000”.


■Allow inspection and repairs to be performed by a Toyota dealer


●Toyota technicians are well-trained specialists and are kept up to date with the latest service information. They are well informed about the operations of all systems on your vehicle.


●Keep a copy of the repair order. It proves that the maintenance that has been performed is under warranty coverage. If any problem should arise while your vehicle is under warranty, your Toyota dealer will promptly take care of it.
