Pressing the AUX button will change the band as follows: AUX ! XM1* ! XM2* ! AUX (satellite, if so equipped)

When the AUX button is pressed while the igni- tion switch is in the ACC or ON position, the radio will come on at the station last played.

The last station played will also come on when the VOL/ON-OFF control knob is pressed to turn the radio on.

*When the AUX button is pressed, the satellite radio mode will be skipped unless an optional satellite receiver and antenna are installed and an XMT satellite radio service subscription is active. Satellite radio is not available in Alaska, Hawaii and Guam.

If a compact disc is playing when the AUX button is pressed, the compact disc will automatically be turned off and the last radio station played will come on. TUNE/SCROLL knob (Tuning):

Turn the TUNE/SCROLL knob to the left or right for manual tuning.

SEEK tuning:

Press the SEEK buttons to tune from low to high or high to low frequencies and to stop at the next broadcasting station.

SCAN tuning:

Press the SCAN button to stop at each broad- casting station for 5 seconds. SCAN will appear on the screen while the radio is scan tuning.

Pressing the button again during this 5 second period will stop SCAN tuning and the radio will remain tuned to that station. If the SCAN button is not pressed within 5 seconds, SCAN tuning moves to the next station. 1 to 6 Station memory operations:

Twelve stations can be set for the FM band (6 for FM1, 6 for FM2) and six stations can be set for the AM band.

1. Choose the radio band AM, FM1 or FM2

using the FM•AM select button.

2. Tune to the desired station using manual, SEEK or SCAN tuning. Press and hold any of the desired station memory buttons (1 (cid:150) 6) until a beep sound is heard.

3. The channel indicator will then come on and the sound will resume. Programming is now complete.

If the battery cable is disconnected or if the fuse opens, the radio memory will be canceled. In that case, reset the desired stations. Compact disc (CD) player operation Place the ignition switch in the ACC or ON position and carefully insert the compact disc into the slot with the label side up. The compact disc is automatically pulled into the slot and starts to play. If the radio is already operating, it automatically turns off and the compact disc begins to play. CD button: When the CD button is pressed with the system off and the compact disc loaded, the system will turn on and the compact disc will start to play. When the CD button is pressed with a compact disc loaded and the radio playing, the radio will automatically be turned off and the compact disc will start to play.

CD/MP3 display mode:

While listening to a CD or an MP3/WMA CD, certain text may be displayed on the screen if the CD has been encoded with text information. De- pending on how the CD or MP3/WMA CD is encoded, information such as Artist, Song and Folder will be displayed.

The track number and the total number of tracks in the current folder or on the current disc are displayed on the screen as well. For example, the first track out of fourteen total is currently playing.

SEEK/CAT (Reverse or Fast Forward) buttons:

Press and hold the SEEK/CAT buttons or for 1.5 seconds while the compact disc is playing to reverse of fast forward the track being played. The compact disc plays at an in- creased speed while reversing or fast forwarding. When the button is released, the compact disc returns to normal play speed.

SEEK/CAT buttons:

Press the SEEK/CAT button while a CD or MP3/WMA CD is playing to return to the begin- ning of the current track. Press the SEEK/CAT button several times to skip backward sev- eral tracks.

The AUX IN audio input jack accepts any standard analog audio input such as from a portable cas- sette tape/CD player, MP3 player or a laptop computer.

Press the AUX button to play a compatible device plugged into the AUX IN jack. The AUX button is also used to switch the audio system to a source plugged into the USB input jack in the center console. When a device is plugged into the AUX IN jack while another device is plugged into the USB input jack, the AUX button is used to toggle between the two functions. For more information about the USB input jack, see (cid:147)USB interface(cid:148) in this section.

EJECT button:

When the button is pressed with a com- pact disc loaded, the compact disc will eject and the last source will be played.

When the button is pressed twice with a compact disc loaded, the compact disc will be ejected further for easier CD removal. If the disc is not removed within 20 seconds, the disc will reload.

While connected to the vehicle, the iPodT can only be operated by the vehicle audio controls.

To disconnect the cable from the vehicle outlet, fully depress the center connector button to un- latch the connector and pull the connector straight out of the outlet. To disconnect the cable from the iPodT, fully depress the side connector buttons and pull the iPodT connector straight out of the iPodT. * iPodT is a trademark of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. Your vehicle is equipped with the specialized cable for connecting the iPodT to your vehicle audio unit. To connect the iPodT, first open the protective cover from the connector in the center console s1 . Next, connect one end of the iPodT cable to the iPodT and the other end of the cable to the connector in the center console s2 . Play information

Information about the audio files being played can be displayed on the display screen of the vehicle(cid:146)s audio system. Depending on how the audio files are encoded, information such as Folder, Song and Artist will be displayed.

ANTENNA The antenna cannot be shortened, but can be removed. When you need to remove the antenna, turn the antenna rod counterclockwise sB . To install the antenna rod, turn the antenna rod clockwise sA and hand tighten.

CAUTION

Always properly tighten the antenna rod during installation or the antenna rod may break during vehicle operation.

CAR PHONE OR CB RADIO

When installing a CB, ham radio or car phone in your NISSAN, be sure to observe the following precautions; otherwise, the new equipment may adversely affect the engine control system and other electronic parts.

c A cellular telephone should not be used while driving so full attention may be given to vehicle operation. Some juris- dictions prohibit the use of cellular tele- phones while driving.

c If you must make a call while your ve- hicle is in motion, the hands free cellu- lar phone operational mode (if so equipped) is highly recommended. Ex- ercise extreme caution at all times so full attention may be given to vehicle operation.

USING THE SYSTEM The NISSAN Voice Recognition system allows hands-free operation of the BluetoothT Phone System.

If the vehicle is in motion, some commands may not be available so full attention may be given to vehicle operation. Initialization When the ignition switch is placed in the ON position, NISSAN Voice Recognition is initialized, which takes a few seconds. If the button is pressed before the initialization completes, the system will announce (cid:147)Hands-free phone system not ready(cid:148) and will not react to voice commands.

Operating tips To get the best performance out of the NISSAN Voice Recognition system, observe the following: c Keep the interior of the vehicle as quiet as possible. Close the windows to eliminate surrounding noises (traffic noises, vibration sounds, etc.), which may prevent the system from recognizing voice commands correctly. c Wait until the tone sounds before speaking a command. Otherwise, the command will not be received properly.

c Start speaking a command within 5 seconds

after the tone sounds.

c Speak in a natural voice without pausing

between words.

Giving voice commands To operate NISSAN Voice Recognition, press and release the button located on the steering wheel. After the tone sounds, speak a command. The command given is picked up by the micro- phone, and voice feedback is given when the command is accepted. c If you need to hear the available commands for the current menu again, say (cid:147)Help(cid:148) and the system will repeat them.

c If a command is not recognized, the system announces, recognized. Please try again.(cid:148) Repeat the command in a clear voice.

(cid:147)Command not

c If you want to go back to the previous com- mand, you can say (cid:147)Go back(cid:148) or (cid:147)Correc- tion(cid:148) any time the system is waiting for a response.

c You can cancel a command when the sys- tem is waiting for a response by saying, (cid:147)Cancel(cid:148) or (cid:147)Quit.(cid:148) The system announces (cid:147)Cancel(cid:148) and ends the VR session. You can button on the also press and hold the steering wheel for 5 seconds at any time to end the VR session. Whenever the VR ses- sion is cancelled, a double beep is played to indicate you have exited the system.

c If you want to adjust the volume of the voice feedback, press the volume control switches (+ or -) on the steering wheel while being provided with feedback. You can also use the radio volume control knob.

c In most cases you can interrupt the voice feedback to speak the next command by pressing the button on the steering wheel.

c To use the system faster, you may speak the second level commands with the main menu command on the main menu. For example, button and after the tone press the say, (cid:147)Call Redial.(cid:148)

NOTE:

The combined command of Call and (a Name) cannot be used.

Choosing a language You can interact with the BluetoothT Hands-Free Phone System using English, Spanish or French.

To change the language, perform the following.

SPEAKER ADAPTATION (SA) MODE Speaker Adaptation allows up to two out-of- dialect users to train the system to improve rec- ognition accuracy. By repeating a number of commands, the users can create a voice model of their own voice that is stored in the system. The system is capable of storing a different speaker adaptation model for each connected phone. Training procedure The procedure for training a voice is as follows.

The manual control mode does not allow dialing a phone number by digits. The user may select an entry from the Phonebook or Re- cent Calls lists. To re-activate voice recognition, exit the manual control mode by pressing and holding the PHONE/END ( ) button. At that time, pressing the PHONE/SEND ( ) button will start the Hands Free Phone System.

TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE The system should respond correctly to all voice commands without difficulty. If problems are en- countered, try the following solutions. Where the solutions are listed by number, try each solution in turn, starting with number 1, until the problem is resolved.

Speak clearly without pausing between words and at a level appropriate to the ambient noise level in the vehicle. 4. Ensure that the ambient noise level is not excessive (for example, windows open or defroster on). NOTE: If it is too noisy to use the phone, it is likely that the voice commands will not be recognized. 5. If more than one command was said at a time, try saying the commands separately. 6. If the system consistently fails to recognize commands, the voice training procedure should be carried out to im- prove the recognition response for the speaker. See (cid:147)Speaker adaptation (SA) mode(cid:148) in this section. 1. Ensure that the phone book entry name requested matches what was originally stored. This can be confirmed by using the (cid:147)List Names(cid:148) command. See (cid:147)Phonebook(cid:148) in this section. 2. Replace one of the names being confused with a new name.

PRECAUTIONS WHEN STARTING AND DRIVING

WARNING

c Do not leave children or adults who would normally require the assistance of others alone in your vehicle. Pets should also not be left alone. They could accidentally injure themselves or others through inadvertent operation of the vehicle. Also, on hot, sunny days, temperatures in a closed vehicle could quickly become high enough to cause severe or possibly fatal injuries to people or animals.

c Closely supervise children when they are around cars to prevent them from playing and becoming locked in the trunk where they could be seriously in- jured. Keep the car locked, with the rear seatback and trunk lid securely latched when not in use, and prevent children(cid:146)s access to car keys.

EXHAUST GAS (carbon monoxide)

WARNING

c Do not breathe exhaust gases; they contain colorless and odorless carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide is danger- ous. It can cause unconsciousness or death.

c If you suspect that exhaust fumes are entering the vehicle, drive with all win- dows fully open, and have the vehicle inspected immediately.

c Do not run the engine in closed spaces

such as a garage.

c Do not park the vehicle with the engine running for any extended length of time. c Keep the trunk lid closed while driving, otherwise exhaust gases could be drawn into the passenger compart- ment. If you must drive with the trunk lid open, follow these precautions: 1. Open all the windows.

2. Set the

air recirculation but- ton to off and the fan control dial to HI to circulate the air.

c If electrical wiring or other cable con- nections must pass to a trailer through the seal on the trunk lid or the body, follow the manufacturer(cid:146)s recommen- dation to prevent carbon monoxide en- try into the vehicle.

c The exhaust system and body should be inspected by a qualified mechanic whenever:

a. The vehicle is raised for service. b. You suspect that exhaust fumes are passenger

c. You notice a change in the sound of

the exhaust system.

d. You have had an accident involving damage to the exhaust system, un- derbody, or rear of the vehicle.

THREE-WAY CATALYST The three-way catalyst is an emission control device installed in the exhaust system. Exhaust gases in the three-way catalyst are burned at high temperatures to help reduce pollutants.

WARNING

c The exhaust gas and the exhaust sys- tem are very hot. Keep people, animals or flammable materials away from the exhaust system components.

c Do not stop or park the vehicle over flammable materials such as dry grass, waste paper or rags. They may ignite and cause a fire.

CAUTION

c Do not use leaded gasoline. Deposits from leaded gasoline will seriously re- duce the three-way catalyst(cid:146)s ability to help reduce exhaust pollutants.

c Keep your engine tuned up. Malfunc- tions in the ignition, fuel injection, or electrical systems can cause overrich fuel flow into the three-way catalyst, causing it to overheat. Do not keep driv- ing if the engine misfires, or if notice- able loss of performance or other un- usual are detected. Have the vehicle inspected promptly by a NISSAN dealer.

c Avoid driving with an extremely low fuel level. Running out of fuel could cause the engine to misfire, damaging the three-way catalyst.

c Do not race the engine while warming it

up.

c Do not push or tow your vehicle to start

the engine.

TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM (TPMS) (if so equipped) Each tire, including the spare (if provided), should be checked monthly when cold and in- flated to the inflation pressure recommended by the vehicle manufacturer on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label. (If your vehicle has tires of a different size than the size indicated on the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label, you should determine the proper tire inflation pressure for those tires.)

As an added safety feature, your vehicle has been equipped with a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) that illuminates a low tire pressure telltale when one or more of your tires is significantly under-inflated. Accordingly, when the low tire pressure telltale illuminates, you should stop and check all 4 tires as soon as possible, and inflate them to the proper pressure. Driving on a signifi- cantly under-inflated tire causes the tire to over- heat and can lead to tire failure. Under-inflation also reduces fuel efficiency and tire tread life, and may affect the vehicle(cid:146)s handling and stopping ability.

Please note that the TPMS is not a substitute for proper tire maintenance, and it is the driver(cid:146)s responsibility to maintain correct tire pressure,

even if under-inflation has not reached the level to trigger illumination of the TPMS low tire pressure telltale.

Your vehicle has also been equipped with a TPMS malfunction indicator to indicate when the system is not operating properly. The TPMS mal- function indicator is combined with the low tire pressure telltale. When the system detects a malfunction, the telltale will flash for approxi- mately one minute and then remain continuously illuminated. This sequence will continue upon subsequent vehicle start-ups as long as the mal- function exists. When the malfunction indicator is illuminated, the system may not be able to detect or signal low tire pressure as intended. TPMS malfunctions may occur for a variety of reasons, including the installation of replacement or alter- nate tires or wheels on the vehicle that prevent the TPMS from functioning properly. Always check the TPMS malfunction telltale after replac- ing one or more tires or wheels on your vehicle to ensure that the replacement or alternate tires and wheels allow the TPMS to continue to function properly. Additional information: c The TPMS does not monitor the tire

pressure of the spare tire.

c The TPMS will activate only when the vehicle is driven at speeds above 16 MPH (25
km/h). Also, this system may not detect a sudden drop in tire pressure (for example a flat tire while driving).

c The low tire pressure warning light does not automatically turn off when the tire pressure is adjusted for all 4 tires. After the tires are inflated to the recommended pressure, the vehicle must be driven at speeds above 16
MPH (25 km/h) to activate the TPMS and turn off the low tire pressure warning light. Use a tire pressure gauge to check the tire pressure.

c Tire pressure rises and falls depending on the heat caused by the vehicle(cid:146)s operation and the outside temperature. Low outside temperature can lower the temperature of the air inside the tire which can cause a lower tire inflation pressure. This may cause the low tire pressure warning light to illumi- nate. If the warning light illuminates in low ambient temperature, check the tire pres- sure for all four tires.

c The Tire and Loading Information label (also referred to as the vehicle placard or tire inflation pressure label) is located in the driver(cid:146)s door opening.

WARNING

c If the low tire pressure warning light illuminates while driving, avoid sudden steering maneuvers or abrupt braking, reduce vehicle speed, pull off the road to a safe location and stop the vehicle as soon as possible. Driving with under- inflated tires may permanently damage the tires and increase the likelihood of tire failure. Serious vehicle damage could occur and may lead to an acci- dent and could result in serious per- sonal injury. Check the tire pressure for all four tires. Adjust the tire pressure to the recommended COLD tire pressure shown on the Tire and Loading Informa- tion label, located on the driver(cid:146)s door opening, to turn the low tire pressure warning light OFF. If you have a flat tire, replace it with a spare tire as soon as possible. (See (cid:147)Flat tire(cid:148) in the (cid:147)In case of emergency(cid:148) section for changing a flat tire.)

c When a spare tire is mounted or a wheel is replaced, the TPMS will not function and the low tire pressure warning light will flash for approximately 1 minute. The light will remain on after 1 minute. Contact your NISSAN dealer as soon as possible for tire replacement and/or system resetting.

c Replacing tires with those not originally specified by NISSAN could affect the proper operation of the TPMS.

c Do not inject any tire liquid or aerosol tire sealant into the tires, as this may cause a malfunction of the tire pressure sensors.

CAUTION

Do not place metalized film or any metal parts (antenna, etc.) on the windows. This may cause poor reception of the signals from the tire pressure sensors, and the TPMS will not function properly.

Some devices and transmitters may temporarily interfere with the operation of the TPMS and cause the low tire pressure warning light to illu- minate.

Some examples are: (cid:150) Facilities or electric devices using similar radio

frequencies are near the vehicle.

(cid:150) If a transmitter set to similar frequencies is

being used in or near the vehicle.

(cid:150) If a computer (or similar equipment) or a DC/AC converter is being used in or near the vehicle.

AVOIDING COLLISION AND ROLLOVER

WARNING

Failure to operate this vehicle in a safe and prudent manner may result in loss of control or an accident.

Be alert and drive defensively at all times. Obey all traffic regulations. Avoid excessive speed, high speed cornering, or sudden steering ma- neuvers, because these driving practices could cause you to lose control of your vehicle. As with any vehicle, loss of control could result in a collision with other vehicles or objects or cause the vehicle to roll over, particularly if the loss of control causes the vehicle to slide sideways. Be attentive at all times, and avoid driving when tired. Never drive when under the influence of alcohol or drugs (including pre- scription or over-the-counter drugs which may cause drowsiness). Always wear your seat belt as outlined in the (cid:147)Safety (cid:150) Seats, seat belts and supplemental this manual, and also instruct your passengers to do so. Seat belts help reduce the risk of injury in collisions and rollovers. In a rollover crash, an unbelted or improperly belted person is significantly more likely to be injured or killed than a person properly wearing a seat belt.

OFF-ROAD RECOVERY While driving, the right side or left side wheels may unintentionally leave the road surface. If this occurs, maintain control of the vehicle by follow- ing the procedure below. Please note that this procedure is only a general guide. The vehicle must be driven as appropriate based on the con- ditions of the vehicle, road and traffic.

1. Remain calm and do not overreact.

2. Do not apply the brakes.

3. Maintain a firm grip on the steering wheel with both hands and try to hold a straight course.

4. When appropriate , slowly release the accel-

erator pedal to gradually slow the vehicle.

5.

If there is nothing in the way, steer the ve- hicle to follow the road while vehicle speed is reduced. Do not attempt to drive the ve- hicle back onto the road surface until vehicle speed is reduced.

6. When it is safe to do so, gradually turn the steering wheel until both tires return to the road surface. When all tires are on the road surface, steer the vehicle to stay in the ap- propriate driving lane.

c If you decide that it is not safe to return the vehicle to the road surface based on vehicle, road or traffic conditions, gradually slow the vehicle to a stop in a safe place off the road.

RAPID AIR PRESSURE LOSS Rapid air pressure loss or a (cid:147)blow-out(cid:148) can occur if the tire is punctured or is damaged due to hitting a curb or pothole. Rapid air pressure loss can also be caused by driving on under-inflated tires.

Rapid air pressure loss can affect the handling and stability of the vehicle, especially at highway speeds.

Help prevent rapid air pressure loss by maintain- ing the correct air pressure and visually inspect the tires for wear and damage. See (cid:147)Wheels and tires(cid:148) in the (cid:147)Maintenance and do-it-yourself(cid:148) section of this manual. If a tire rapidly loses air pressure or (cid:147)blows-out(cid:148) while driving, maintain control of the vehicle by following the procedure below. Please note that this procedure is only a general guide. The vehicle must be driven as appropriate based on the conditions of the ve- hicle, road and traffic.

The following actions can increase the chance of losing control of the vehicle if there is a sudden loss of tire air pressure. Losing control of the vehicle may cause a collision and result in personal injury. c The vehicle generally moves or pulls in

the direction of the flat tire.
