(These standards be- came effective for opener models manufactured after April 1, 1982). A ga- rage door opener which cannot detect an object in the path of a closing garage door and then automatically stop and reverse, does not meet current federal safety standards. Using a garage door opener without these features in- creases the risk of serious injury or death. ● During the programming procedure your garage door or security gate will open and close (if the transmitter is within range). Make sure that people or objects are clear of the garage door, gate, etc. that you are programming. ● Your vehicle’s engine should be turned off while programming the HomeLink姞 Universal Transceiver. WIC0986 PROGRAMMING HOMELINK姞 1. To begin, press and hold the two outer HomeLink姞 buttons (to clear the memory) until the indicator light 䊊1 blinks (after 20 seconds). Release both buttons. 2. Position the end of the hand-held transmitter 1 - 3 inches (26 - 76 mm) away from the HomeLink姞 surface. If the indicator light on the HomeLink姞 blinks rapidly for 2 seconds and then turns solid, HomeLink姞 has picked up a “rolling code” garage door opener signal. You will need to proceed with the next steps to train the HomeLink姞 to complete the programming which may require a ladder and another per- son for convenience. 6. Press and release the “smart” or “learn” pro- gram button located on the garage door opener’s motor to activate the “training mode”. This button is usually located near the antenna wire that hangs down from the motor. If the wire originates from under a light lens, you will need to remove the lens to access the program button. NOTE: Once you have pressed and released the program button on the garage door open- er’s motor and the “training light” is lit, you have 30 seconds in which to perform step 7. Use the help of a second person for conve- nience to assist when performing this step. 7. Within 30 seconds of pressing and releas- ing the garage door opener’s program but- WIC0987 3. Using both hands, simultaneously press and hold both the HomeLink姞 button you want to program and the hand-held transmitter but- ton. DO NOT release the buttons until step 4 has been completed. 4. Hold down both buttons until the indicator light on the HomeLink姞 flashes, changing from a “slow blink” to a “rapidly flashing blink”. This could take up to 90 seconds. When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. The rapidly flash- ing light indicates successful programming. Press and release the HomeLink姞 button up to 3 times to complete the training. 8. Your HomeLink姞 button should now be pro- grammed. (To program the remaining HomeLink姞 buttons for additional door or gate openers, follow steps 2-4 only.) all previously NOTE: Do not repeat step 1 unless you want to “clear” programmed HomeLink姞 buttons. PROGRAMMING HOMELINK姞 FOR CANADIAN CUSTOMERS Prior to 1992, D.O.C. regulations required hand- held transmitters to stop transmitting after 2 sec- onds. To program your hand-held transmitter to HomeLink姞, continue to press and hold the HomeLink姞 button (see steps 2 - 4under “Pro- gramming HomeLink姞”) while you press and re- press (“cycle”) your hand-held transmitters every 2 seconds until the indicator light flashes rapidly (indicating successful programming). NOTE: When programming a garage door opener, etc., it is advised to unplug the device dur- ing the “cycling” process to prevent pos- sible damage to the garage door opener components. OPERATING THE HOMELINK姞 UNIVERSAL TRANSCEIVER The HomeLink姞 Universal Transceiver (once pro- grammed) may now be used to activate the ga- rage door, etc. To operate, simply press the ap- propriate programmed HomeLink姞 Universal Transceiver button. The amber indicator light will illuminate while the signal is being transmitted. PROGRAMMING TROUBLE- DIAGNOSIS If the HomeLink姞 does not quickly learn the hand- held transmitter information: ● replace the hand-held transmitter batteries with new batteries. ● position the hand-held transmitter with its from the facing away battery HomeLink姞 surface. area ● press and hold both the HomeLink姞 and hand-held transmitter buttons without inter- ruption. ● position the hand-held transmitter 1 - 3 inches (26 - 76 mm) away from the HomeLink姞 surface. Hold the transmitter in that position for up to 15 seconds. If HomeLink姞 is not programmed within that time, try holding the transmitter in another position – keeping the indicator light in view at all times. If you continue to have programming difficulties, please contact the NISSAN Consumer Affairs Department. The phone numbers are located in the Foreword of this manual. CLEARING THE PROGRAMMED INFORMATION Individual buttons cannot be cleared. However, to clear all programming, press and hold the two outside buttons and release when the indicator light begins to flash (approximately 20 seconds). REPROGRAMMING A SINGLE HOMELINK姞 BUTTON To reprogram a HomeLink姞 Universal Transceiver button, complete the following. 1. Press and hold the desired HomeLink姞 but- ton. Do not release the button until step 4 has been completed. 2. When the indicator light begins to flash slowly (after 20 seconds), position the hand-held transmitter 1 - 3inches (26 - 76 mm) away from the HomeLink姞 surface. 3. Press and hold the hand-held transmitter button. 4. The HomeLink姞 indicator light will flash, first slowly and then rapidly. When the indicator light begins to flash rapidly, release both buttons. The HomeLink姞 Universal Transceiver button has now been reprogrammed. The new device can be activated by pushing the HomeLink姞 button that was just programmed. This procedure will not affect any other programmed HomeLink姞 buttons. IF YOUR VEHICLE IS STOLEN If your vehicle is stolen, you should change the codes of any non-rolling code device that has been programmed into HomeLink姞. Consult the Owner’s Manual of each device or call the manu- facturer or dealer of those devices for additional information. When your vehicle is recovered, you will need to reprogram the HomeLink姞 Univer- sal Transceiver with your new transmitter information. If you still have a key, your NISSAN dealer can duplicate it. 1. A key number plate is supplied with your keys. Record the key number and keep it in a safe place (such as your wallet), not in the vehicle. If you lose your keys, see a NISSAN dealer for duplicates by using the key number. NISSAN does not record key numbers so it is very important to keep track of your key number plate. 3-2 Pre-driving checks and adjustments WPD0427 Two Intelligent Keys 1. 2. Mechanical keys (inside Intelligent Keys) Key number plate 3. NISSAN INTELLIGENT KEY™ (if so equipped) Your vehicle can only be driven with the Intelligent Keys which are registered to your vehicle’s Intel- ligent Key components and NISSAN Vehicle Im- mobilizer System components. ● Wetting may damage the Intelligent Key. If the Intelligent Key gets wet, im- mediately wipe until it is completely dry. ● Do not place the Intelligent Key for an extended period in an area where tem- peratures exceed 140°F (60°C). ● Do not attach the Intelligent Key with a key holder that contains a magnet. ● Do not place the Intelligent Key near equipment that produces a magnetic field, such as a TV, audio equipment and personal computers. If an Intelligent Key is lost or stolen, NISSAN recommends erasing the ID code of that Intelligent Key from the vehicle. This may prevent the unauthorized use of the Intelligent Key to operate the vehicle. For information regarding the erasing procedure, contact a NISSAN dealer. Never leave these keys in the vehicle. As many as 4 Intelligent Keys can be registered and used with one vehicle. The new keys must be registered by a NISSAN dealer prior to use with the Intelligent Key and NISSAN Vehicle Immobi- lizer System of your vehicle. Since the registra- tion process requires erasing all memory in the Intelligent Key components when registering new keys, be sure to take all Intelligent Keys that you have to the NISSAN dealer. CAUTION Listed below are conditions or occur- rences which will damage the Intelligent Key: ● Do not allow the Intelligent Key, which contains electrical components, to come into contact with water or salt water. This could affect the system function. ● Do not drop the Intelligent Key. ● Do not strike the Intelligent Key sharply against another object. ● Do not change or modify the Intelligent Key. SPA1951 Mechanical key The Intelligent Key contains the mechanical key, which can be used in case of a discharged bat- tery. To remove the mechanical key, release the lock knob on the back of the Intelligent Key. To install the mechanical key, firmly insert it into the Intelligent Key until the lock knob returns to the lock position. The mechanical key can be used for operation in the same way as an ordinary key. Pre-driving checks and adjustments 3-3 Vehicle Immobilizer System during registration. Any key that is not given to your dealer at the time of registration will no longer be able to start your vehicle. Do not allow the immobilizer system key, which contains an electrical transponder, to come into contact with salt water. This could affect system function. CAUTION Always carry the mechanical key installed in the Intelligent Key slot. See “Doors” in this section and “Storage” in the “Instruments and controls” section of this manual. Valet hand-off When you have to leave a key with a valet, give them the Intelligent Key itself and keep the me- chanical key with you to protect your belongings. To prevent the glove box or console box from being opened during valet hand-off, follow the procedure below. 1. Remove the mechanical key from the Intelli- gent Key. 2. Lock the glove box or console box with the mechanical key. 3. Hand the Intelligent Key to the valet and keep the mechanical key with you. See “Storage” in the “Instruments and controls” section of this manual. 3-4 Pre-driving checks and adjustments NISSAN VEHICLE IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM KEYS You can only drive your vehicle using the master or valet keys which are registered to the NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System components in your vehicle. These keys have a transponder chip in the key head. The master key can be used for all the locks. The valet key cannot be used for the console box lock. To protect belongings when you leave a key with someone, give them the valet key only. Never leave these keys in the vehicle. Additional or replacement keys: If you still have a key, the key number is not necessary when you need extra NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System keys. Your dealer can dupli- cate your existing key. As many as five NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System keys can be used with one vehicle. You should bring all NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System keys that you have to your NISSAN dealer for registration. This is be- cause the registration process will erase the memory of all key codes previously registered into the NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System. After the registration process, these components will only recognize keys coded into the NISSAN DOORS When the doors are locked using one of the following methods, the doors can not be opened using the inside or outside door handles. The doors must be unlocked to open the doors. WARNING ● Always have the doors locked while driving. Along with the use of seat belts, this provides greater safety in the event of an accident by helping to prevent persons from being thrown from the vehicle. This also helps keep children and others from unintentionally open- ing the doors, and will help keep out intruders. ● Before opening any door, always look for and avoid oncoming traffic. ● Do not leave children unattended inside the vehicle. They could unknowingly ac- tivate switches or controls. Unattended children could become involved in seri- ous accidents. Opening and closing windows The driver’s door key operation allows you to open and close windows equipped with auto- matic operation at the same time. ● To open the windows, turn the driver’s door key toward the rear of the vehicle for longer than 1 second after the door is unlocked. ● To close the windows, turn the driver’s door key toward the front of the vehicle for longer than 1 second after the door is locked. Windows stop when the key cylinder is released. Pre-driving checks and adjustments 3-5 Driver’s side LPD0240 LOCKING WITH KEY The power door lock system allows you to lock or unlock all doors at the same time. Turning the key toward the front 䊊1 of the vehicle locks all doors. Turning the key one time toward the rear 䊊2 of the vehicle unlocks that door. From that position, returning the key to neutral 䊊3 (where the key can only be removed and inserted) and turning it toward the rear again within 5 seconds unlocks all doors 䊊4 . Lockout protection When the power door lock switch (driver’s or front passenger’s side) is moved to the lock position with the key in the ignition switch and any door open, all doors will lock and then unlock automatically. This helps to prevent the keys from being accidently locked inside the vehicle. AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS ● All doors lock automatically when the vehicle speed reaches 15 MPH (24 km/h). ● All doors unlock automatically when the ig- nition switch is placed in the OFF position (models with Intelligent Key system) or when the key is removed from the ignition switch (models without Intelligent Key system). The automatic unlock function can be de- activated or activated. To deactivate or acti- vate the automatic door unlock system, perform the following procedure: 1. Close all doors. 2. Place the ignition switch in the ON position. 3. Within 20 seconds of performing Step 2, push and hold the power door lock switch to position (UNLOCK) for more than the 5 seconds. Inside lock LPD0241 LOCKING WITH INSIDE LOCK KNOB To lock the door without the key, move the inside lock knob to the lock position 䊊1 , then close the door. To unlock the door without the key, move the inside lock knob to the unlock position 䊊2 . WPD0381 LOCKING WITH POWER DOOR LOCK SWITCH To lock all the doors without a key, push the door lock switch (driver’s or front passenger’s side) to the lock position 䊊1 . When locking the door this way, be certain not to leave the key inside the vehicle. To unlock all the doors without a key, push the door lock switch (driver’s or front passenger’s side) to the unlock position 䊊2 . 3-6 Pre-driving checks and adjustments 4. When activated, the hazard indicator will flash twice. When deactivated, the hazard indicator will flash once. 5. The ignition switch must be placed in the OFF and ON position again between each setting change. When the automatic door unlock system is deac- tivated, the doors do not unlock when the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position (models with Intelligent Key system) or when the key is re- moved from the ignition switch (models without Intelligent Key system). To unlock the door manu- ally, use the inside lock knob or the power door lock switch (driver’s or front passenger’s side). LPD0420 CHILD SAFETY REAR DOOR LOCK Child safety locks help prevent the rear doors from being opened accidentally, especially when small children are in the vehicle. The child safety lock levers are located on the edge of the rear doors. When the lever is in the LOCK position, the door can be opened only from the outside. REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM (if so equipped) WARNING ● Radio waves could adversely affect electric medical equipment. Those who use a pacemaker should contact the electric medical equipment manufac- turer for the possible influences before use. ● The remote keyless entry keyfob trans- mits radio waves when the buttons are pushed. The FAA advises radio waves may affect aircraft navigation and com- munication systems. Do not operate the remote keyless entry keyfob while on an airplane. Make sure the buttons are not operated unintentionally when the unit is stored for a flight. It is possible to lock/unlock all doors, turn on the interior lights and puddle lights (if so equipped), and activate the panic alarm by using the keyfob from outside the vehicle. Some settings for the keyfob, such as horn beep, can be adjusted. For vehicles without navigation system, refer to “Silencing the horn beep feature” later in this section. For vehicles with navigation system, refer to “Comfort & convenience set- tings” in the “Monitor, climate, audio, phone and voice recognition systems” section later in this manual. Pre-driving checks and adjustments 3-7 ● Do not strike the keyfob sharply against another object. ● Do not change or modify the keyfob. ● Wetting may damage the keyfob. If the keyfob gets wet, immediately wipe until it is completely dry. ● Do not place the keyfob for an extended period in an area where temperatures exceed 140°F (60°C). ● Do not attach the keyfob with a key holder that contains a magnet. ● Do not place the keyfob near equip- ment that produces a magnetic field, such as a TV, audio equipment and per- sonal computers. If a keyfob is lost or stolen, NISSAN rec- ommends erasing the ID code of that key- fob. This will prevent the keyfob from un- authorized use to unlock the vehicle. For information regarding the erasing proce- dure, please contact a NISSAN dealer. Be sure to remove the key from the vehicle before locking the doors. The keyfob can operate at a maximum distance of approximately 33 ft (10 m) from the vehicle. The effective distance depends upon the conditions around the vehicle. As many as 5 keyfobs can be used with one vehicle. For information concerning the purchase and use of additional keyfobs, contact a NISSAN dealer. The keyfob will not function when: ● the battery is discharged. ● the distance between the vehicle and the keyfob is over 33 ft (10 m). The panic alarm will not activate when the key is in the ignition switch. CAUTION Listed below are conditions or occur- rences which will damage the keyfob: ● Do not allow the keyfob, which contains electrical components, to come into contact with water or salt water. This could affect the system function. ● Do not drop the keyfob. 3-8 Pre-driving checks and adjustments LPD0209 HOW TO USE REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM Locking doors 1. Close all windows. 2. Remove the key from the ignition switch. 3. Close the hood and all doors. 4. Press the button on the keyfob. All the doors lock. The hazard warning lights flash twice and the horn beeps once to indicate all doors are locked. ● When the button is pressed with all doors locked, the hazard warning lights flash twice and the horn beeps once as a re- minder that the doors are already locked. ● If a door is open and you press the button, the doors will lock but the horn will not beep and the hazard warning lights will not flash. The horn may or may not beep. For vehicles without navigation system, refer to “Silencing the horn beep feature” later in this section. See “Automatic drive positioner” in this section. 3-10 Pre-driving checks and adjustments LPD0243 LPD0211 Operating the power lift gate (if so equipped) Press and hold the button on the keyfob for about 0.5 seconds to open or close the lift gate. The hazard warning lights flash and a chime sounds to indicate the power open or power close se- quence has started. The lift gate will reverse direction immediately during power open or power close if the keyfob button is pressed. A chime will sound to an- nounce the reversal. For more information, see “Lift gate” later in this section. Pre-driving checks and adjustments 3-11 NISSAN INTELLIGENT KEY™ (if so equipped) WARNING CAUTION ● Radio waves could adversely affect electric medical equipment. Those who use a pacemaker should contact the electric medical equipment manufac- turer for the possible influences before use. ● The Intelligent Key transmits radio waves when the buttons are pressed. The FAA advises the radio waves may affect aircraft navigation and communi- cation systems. Do not operate the In- telligent Key while on an airplane. Make sure the buttons are not operated unin- tentionally when the unit is stored for a flight. The Intelligent Key can operate all the door locks using the remote controller function or pushing the request switch on the vehicle without taking the key out from a pocket or purse. The operating environment and/or conditions may affect the Intelligent Key operation. Be sure to read the following before using the Intelligent Key. ● Be sure to carry the Intelligent Key with you when operating the vehicle. ● Never leave the Intelligent Key in the vehicle when you leave the vehicle. The Intelligent Key is always communicating with the vehicle as it receives radio waves. The Intel- ligent Key transmits weak radio waves. Environ- mental conditions may interfere with the opera- tion of the Intelligent Key under the following operating conditions. ● When operating near a location where strong radio waves are transmitted, such as a TV tower, power station and broadcasting station. ● When in possession of wireless equipment, such as a cellular telephone, transceiver, and CB radio. ● When the Intelligent Key is in contact with or covered by metallic materials. ● When any type of radio wave remote control is used nearby. ● When the Intelligent Key is placed near an electric appliance such as a personal com- puter. 3-12 Pre-driving checks and adjustments ● When the vehicle is parked near a parking meter. In such cases, correct the operating conditions before using the Intelligent Key function or use the mechanical key. Although the life of the battery varies depending on the operating conditions, the battery’s life is approximately 2 years. the battery is dis- charged, replace it with a new one. If When the Intelligent Key battery is low, the Intel- ligent Key indicator will illuminate after the ignition switch is placed in the ON position. Since the Intelligent Key is continuously receiving radio waves, if the key is left near equipment which transmits strong radio waves, such as sig- nals from a TV and personal computer, the bat- tery life may become shorter. For information regarding replacement of a bat- tery, see “Battery replacement” in the “Mainte- nance and do-it-yourself” section of this manual. For models with a steering wheel lock mecha- nism: Because the steering wheel is locked elec- trically, unlocking the steering wheel with the ignition switch in the LOCK position is impossible when the vehicle battery is completely dis- charged. Unlocking the steering wheel is impos- sible even if the Intelligent Key is inserted into the ● Do not attach the Intelligent Key with a key holder that contains a magnet. ● Do not place the Intelligent Key near equipment that produces a magnetic field, such as a TV, audio equipment and personal computers. If an Intelligent Key is lost or stolen, NISSAN recommends erasing the ID code of that Intelli- gent Key from the vehicle. This may prevent the unauthorized use of the Intelligent Key to operate the vehicle. For information regarding the erasing procedure, contact a NISSAN dealer. ignition switch. Pay special attention that the vehicle battery is not completely discharged. As many as 4 Intelligent Keys can be registered and used with one vehicle. For information about the purchase and use of additional Intelligent Keys, contact a NISSAN dealer. CAUTION Listed below are conditions or occur- rences which will damage the Intelligent Key: ● Do not allow the Intelligent Key, which contains electrical components, to come into contact with water or salt water. This could affect the system function. ● Do not drop the Intelligent Key. ● Do not strike the Intelligent Key sharply against another object. ● Do not change or modify the Intelligent Key. ● Wetting may damage the Intelligent Key. If the Intelligent Key gets wet, im- mediately wipe until it is completely dry. ● Do not place the Intelligent Key for an extended period in an area where tem- peratures exceed 140°F (60°C). Pre-driving checks and adjustments 3-13 OPERATING RANGE The Intelligent Key functions can only be used when the Intelligent Key is within the specified operating range from the request switch 䊊1 . When the Intelligent Key battery is discharged or strong radio waves are present near the operat- ing location, the Intelligent Key operating range becomes narrower, and the Intelligent Key may not function properly. The operating range is within 31.50 in (80 cm) from each request switch 䊊1 . 3-14 Pre-driving checks and adjustments SPA2038 If the Intelligent Key is too close to the door glass, handle or rear bumper, the request switches may not function. When the Intelligent Key is within the operating range, it is possible for anyone, even someone who does not carry the Intelligent Key, to push the request switch to lock/unlock the doors. WPD0375 DOOR LOCKS/UNLOCKS PRECAUTION ● Do not push the door handle request switch with the Intelligent Key held in your hand as illustrated. The close distance to the door handle will cause the Intelligent Key system to have difficulty recognizing that the Intelli- gent Key is outside the vehicle. ● After locking with the door handle request switch, verify the doors are securely locked by testing them. ● To prevent the Intelligent Key from being left inside the vehicle, make sure you carry the Intelligent Key with you and then lock the doors. ● Do not pull the door handle before pushing the door handle request switch. The door will be unlocked but will not open. Release the door handle once and pull it again to open the door. WPD0411 WPD0412 NISSAN INTELLIGENT KEY™ OPERATION You can lock or unlock the doors without taking the Intelligent Key out of your pocket or bag. When you carry the Intelligent Key with you, you can lock or unlock all doors by pushing the door handle request switch within the range of opera- tion. Locking doors 1. Move the shift selector to the P (Park) posi- tion, place the ignition switch in the LOCK position and make sure you carry the Intelli- gent Key with you. 2. Close all doors. 3. Push any door handle request switch while carrying the Intelligent Key with you. 4. All doors and the rear liftgate will lock. 5. The hazard warning lights flash twice and the outside buzzer sounds twice. Pre-driving checks and adjustments 3-15 NOTE: The doors may not lock when the Intelli- gent Key is in the same hand that is oper- ating the request switch to lock the door. Put the intelligent key in a purse, pocket or your other hand. CAUTION The lockout protection may not function under the following conditions: ● When the Intelligent Key is placed on top of the instrument panel. ● When the Intelligent Key is placed in- side the glove box or a storage bin. ● When the Intelligent Key is placed in- side the door pockets. ● When the Intelligent Key is placed in- side or near metallic materials. CAUTION ● After locking the doors using the re- quest switch, make sure that the doors have been securely locked by operating the door handles or the rear liftgate opener switch. ● When locking the doors using the re- quest switch, make sure to have the Intelligent Key in your possession be- fore operating the request switch to prevent the Intelligent Key from being left in the vehicle. ● The request switch is operational only when the Intelligent Key has been de- tected by the Intelligent Key system. Lockout protection To prevent the Intelligent Key from being acci- dentally locked in the vehicle, lockout protection is equipped with the Intelligent Key system. When the driver’s side door is open, the doors are locked, and then the Intelligent Key is put inside the vehicle and all the doors are closed; the lock will automatically unlock and the door buzzer sounds. WPD0413 NOTE: ● Doors lock with the door handle request switch while the ignition switch is not in the LOCK position. ● Doors do not lock by pushing the door handle request switch while any door is open. However, doors lock with the me- chanical key even if any door is open. ● Doors do not lock with the door handle request switch with the Intelligent Key inside the vehicle and a beep sounds to warn you. However, when an Intelligent Key is inside the vehicle, doors can be locked with an- other Intelligent Key. 3-16 Pre-driving checks and adjustments WPD0412 WPD0413 Unlocking doors 1. Carry the Intelligent Key. 2. Push the door handle request switch. 3. The hazard warning lights flash once and the outside buzzer sounds once. 4. Push the door handle request switch again within 30 seconds to unlock all doors. For power liftgate opening: 1. Carry the intelligent key. 2. Pull the power liftgate handle or press the power liftgate button. 3. Power back door open. If a door handle is pulled while unlocking the doors, that door may not be unlocked. Returning the door handle to its original position will unlock the door. If the door does not unlock after return- ing the door handle, push the door handle re- quest switch to unlock the door. All doors will be locked automatically unless one of the following operations is performed within 1 minute after pushing the request switch. ● Opening any door. ● Pushing the ignition switch. The interior light timer illuminates for 30 seconds when a door is unlocked and the room light switch is in the DOOR position. The interior light can be turned off without waiting for 30 seconds by performing one of the follow- ing operations. ● Placing the ignition switch in the ON posi- tion. ● Locking the doors with the remote controller. ● Switching the room light switch to the OFF position. HOW TO USE THE REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY FUNCTION The remote keyless entry function can operate all door locks using the remote keyless function of the Intelligent Key. The remote keyless function can operate at a distance of 33 ft (10 m) away from the vehicle. The operating distance de- pends upon the conditions around the vehicle. The remote keyless entry function will not func- tion under the following conditions: ● When the Intelligent Key is not within the operational range. ● When the doors or the rear liftgate are open or not closed securely. Pre-driving checks and adjustments 3-17 ● When the Intelligent Key battery is dis- charged. CAUTION When locking the doors using the Intelli- gent Key, be sure not to leave the key in the vehicle. CAUTION After locking the doors using the Intelli- gent Key, be sure that the doors have been securely locked by operating the door handles. Locking doors 1. When a chime or beep sounds or a warning is displayed, be sure to check the vehicle and the Intelligent Key. See the “Troubleshooting guide” that follows and “Vehicle information display” in the “Instruments and controls” section of this manual. NOTE: If you change the horn beep and light flash feature with the keyfob, the display screen (if so equipped) will not show the current mode and cannot be used to change the mode. If another Intelligent Key is in range or inside the vehicle, the vehicle system may respond differently than expected. Push the door handle request switch after the door is closed. 3-22 Pre-driving checks and adjustments HOOD LIFT GATE 䊊1 Pull the hood lock release handle located below the driver side instrument panel. The hood will spring up slightly. 䊊2 Push the lever at the front of the hood to the side as illustrated with your fingertips and raise the hood. When closing the hood, lower it slowly and make sure it locks into place. LPD0244 WARNING ● Make sure the hood is completely closed and latched before driving. Fail- ure to do so could cause the hood to fly open and result in an accident. ● If you see steam or smoke coming from the engine compartment, to avoid injury do not open the hood. WARNING ● Always be sure the lift gate has been closed securely to prevent it from open- ing while driving. ● Do not drive with the lift gate open. This could allow dangerous exhaust gases to be drawn into the vehicle. See “Ex- haust gas” in the “Starting and driving” section of this manual. ● Do not leave children unattended inside the vehicle. They could unknowingly ac- tivate switches or controls. Unattended children could become involved in seri- ous accidents. ● Always be sure that hands and feet are clear of the door frame to avoid injury while closing the lift gate. Pre-driving checks and adjustments 3-23 LPD0245 OPERATING THE MANUAL LIFT GATE (if so equipped) The power door lock system allows you to lock or unlock all doors including the lift gate simulta- neously. To open the lift gate, pull up on the handle. To close, lower and push the lift gate down se- curely. 3-24 Pre-driving checks and adjustments LPD0247 LPD0283 Rear pillar switch OPERATING THE POWER LIFT GATE (if so equipped) NOTE: To open, close or reverse the power lift gate, the shift selector must be in P (Park). Also, the power lift gate will not operate if battery voltage is low. Additionally, the glass hatch must be fully closed in order to open, close or reverse the power liftgate. Power Open: The power lift gate automatically moves from the fully closed position to the fully open position in Instrument panel switch approximately 5 – 8seconds. The power open feature can be activated by the switch on the keyfob, the instrument panel switch and by the outside opener handle. The hazard lights flash and a chime sounds to indicate the power open sequence has been started. ● The lift gate can be opened by the instru- ment panel switch and the keyfob even if the vehicle is locked. The lift gate will individually unlock and open. Once the lift gate is closed, its lock will align to the vehicle’s lock or unlock status. ● The keyfob button must be held for 0.5 sec- ond before the lift gate opens. ● The lift gate must be unlocked to open it with the outside opener handle. ● The switch on the rear pillar cannot be used to open the lift gate. A warning chime will sound if the shift selector is moved out of P (Park) during a power open operation. Power Close: The power lift gate automatically moves from the fully open position to the secondary position. When the lift gate reaches the secondary posi- tion, the cinching motor engages and pulls the lift gate to its primary latch position. Power close takes approximately 7 – 10seconds. The power close feature can be activated by the switch on the keyfob, the instrument panel and the rear pillar. The hazard lights flash and a chime sounds to indicate the power close sequence has been started. ● If the outside opener handle is activated while the cinching motor is engaged, the cinching motor will disengage and release the latch. ● The keyfob button must be held for 0.5 sec- ond before the lift gate closes. ● The switch on the rear pillar can only be used to close the lift gate if the cancel switch is not in the on position. Reverse: The power lift gate will reverse direction immedi- ately during power open or power close if the keyfob, instrument panel or rear pillar switch is pushed or if the outside handle is lifted. A chime will sound to announce the reversal. Auto Reverse: If an obstacle is detected during power open or power close, a warning chime will sound and the lift gate will reverse direction and return to the full open or full close position. If a second obstacle is detected, the lift gate motion will stop and the drive motor will disengage. The lift gate will enter manual mode. A pinch strip is mounted on each side of the lift gate. If an obstacle is detected by a pinch strip during power close, the lift gate will reverse di- rection and return to the full open position. NOTE: If the pinch strip is damaged or removed, the power close function will not operate. WARNING There are some small distances immedi- ately before the closed position which cannot be detected. Make sure that all passengers have their hands, etc., inside the vehicle before closing the lift gate. Manual Mode: If power operation is not available, the lift gate may be operated manually. Power operation may not be available if the cancel switch is in the on position, if multiple obstacles have been de- tected in a single power cycle, or if battery volt- age is low. Pre-driving checks and adjustments 3-25 CAUTION ● If the power lift gate does not stay open or if the lift gate unexpectedly closes at any time while a continuous warning chime sounds, do not operate the lift gate. There may be a pressure loss in one or both of the lift gate gas stays. Have the lift gate inspected by a NISSAN dealer. ● Do not activate the power lift gate if one or both of the lift gate gas stays are removed. Damage to the lift gate or power lift gate mechanisms may occur. LPD0248 CANCEL SWITCH Push the switch toward the CANCEL position to disable the rear pillar switch. The lift gate can still be opened and closed using the switch on the instrument panel and keyfob. The lift gate can also be opened manually with the outside handle if the lift gate is unlocked. LPD0250 Safe Mode: If the lift gate gas stays 䊊1 lose pressure, the power lift gate safe mode is activated. When the safe mode is activated, the lift gate slowly closes. A continuous warning chime sounds until the lift gate is in the fully down position. Then the lift gate will be pulled to the closed and latched position by a motor. The power lift gate cannot be opened using the switches at any time in the safe mode. The auto reverse function remains active while the lift gate is closing in the safe mode. Remove the cover on the inside of the lift gate . Power lift gate release Power lift gate (if so equipped) If the lift gate cannot be opened with the door lock switch or keyfob due to a discharged battery, follow these steps: 1. Remove the cover on the inside of the lift gate. 2. Move the lever up to lock or down to unlock. 2. Move the lever up to open the lift gate. Pre-driving checks and adjustments 3-27 GLASS HATCH LPD0246 To open, pull up on the smaller outside handle to release the glass hatch, then pull up on the glass hatch. To close, lower and push the glass hatch down securely. 3-28 Pre-driving checks and adjustments NOTE: The lift gate must be unlocked in order to open the glass hatch. WARNING Do not drive with the glass hatch open. This could allow dangerous exhaust gases to be drawn into the vehicle. See “Exhaust gas” in the “Starting and driving” section of this manual. FUEL-FILLER DOOR FUEL-FILLER CAP WARNING ● Gasoline is extremely flammable and highly explosive under certain condi- tions. You could be burned or seriously injured if it is misused or mishandled. Always stop the engine and do not smoke or allow open flames or sparks near the vehicle when refueling. ● Do not attempt to top off the fuel tank after the fuel pump nozzle shuts off automatically. Continued refueling may cause fuel overflow, resulting in fuel spray and possibly a fire. ● Use only an original equipment type fuel-filler cap as a replacement. It has a built-in safety valve needed for proper operation of the fuel system and emis- sion control system. An incorrect cap can result in a serious malfunction and possible injury. It could also cause malfunction indicator light the (MIL) to come on. ● Never pour fuel into the throttle body to attempt to start your vehicle. ● Do not fill a portable fuel container in the vehicle or trailer. Static electricity can cause an explosion of flammable liquid, vapor or gas in any vehicle or trailer. To reduce the risk of serious injury or death when filling portable fuel containers: – Always place the container on the ground when filling. – Do not use electronic devices when filling. – Keep the pump nozzle in contact with the container while you are fill- ing it. – Use only approved portable fuel con- tainers for flammable liquid. CAUTION ● Only vehicles with the E-85 filler door label can operate on E-85. Fuel system or other damage can occur if E-85 is used in vehicles that are not designed to run on E-85. ● The LOOSE FUEL CAP warning will ap- pear if the fuel-filler cap is not properly tightened. LPD0391 To remove the fuel-filler cap: 1. Turn the fuel-filler cap counterclockwise to remove. 2. Put the fuel-filler cap on the cap holder 䊊1 while refueling. To install the fuel-filler cap: 1. Insert the fuel-filler cap straight into the fuel- filler tube. 2. Turn the fuel-filler cap clockwise until it clicks. The fuel-filler cap is a ratcheting type. LRS2005 Loose Fuel Cap warning The LOOSE FUEL CAP warning appears in the vehicle information display when the fuel-filler cap is not tightened correctly after the vehicle has been refueled. To turn off the warning, do the following: 1. Remove and install the fuel-filler cap as pre- viously described as soon as possible. 2. Tighten the fuel-filler cap until it clicks. 3. Push the INFO button 䊊A in the meter for about 1 second to turn off the LOOSE FUEL CAP warning 䊊B after tightening the fuel- filler cap. 3-30 Pre-driving checks and adjustments TILT OPERATION WPD0428 WARNING Do not adjust the steering wheel while driving. You could lose control of your vehicle and cause an accident. Pull the lock lever forward and hold it to adjust the steering wheel up or down to the desired posi- tion. Release the lock lever to lock the steering wheel in place. PEDAL POSITION ADJUSTMENT SUN VISORS CAUTION Do not adjust the pedal position with your foot on the pedal. WPD0429 The accelerator and brake pedals can be ad- justed for driving comfort. Use the pedal adjusting switch to adjust the brake and accelerator pedal position away from the driver 䊊1 or toward the driver 䊊2 . The brake and accelerator pedals cannot be ad- justed separately. WARNING Do not adjust the pedal position while driving. You could lose control of your vehicle and cause an accident. Pre-driving checks and adjustments 3-31 LPD0256 MIRRORS LPD0257 VANITY MIRRORS To access the vanity mirror, pull the sun visor down and flip open the mirror cover. The vanity mirror will illuminate when the mirror cover is open. WPD0126 REARVIEW MIRROR (if so equipped) The night position 䊊1 reduces glare from the headlights of vehicles behind you at night. Use the day position 䊊2 when driving in daylight hours. CAUTION ● Do not store the sun visor before return- ing the extension to its original position. ● Do not pull the extension sun visor forc- edly downward. 3-32 Pre-driving checks and adjustments AUTOMATIC ANTI-GLARE REARVIEW MIRROR (if so equipped) The inside mirror is designed so that it automati- cally dims during night time conditions and ac- cording to the intensity of the headlights of the vehicle following you. The automatic anti-glare feature is activated when the ignition switch is in the ON position. The indicator light will illuminate when the auto- matic anti-glare feature is operating. NOTE: Do not hang any objects over the sensors 䊊1 or apply glass cleaner to the sensors. Doing so will reduce the sensitivity of the sensors, resulting in improper operation. For more information about the compass and compass features 䊊2 (if so equipped), see “Compass display” in the “Instruments and con- trols” section of this manual. Be careful when moving to the right. Using only this mirror could cause an accident. Use the inside mirror or glance over your shoulder to properly judge distances to other objects. ● Do not adjust the mirrors while driving. You could lose control of your vehicle and cause an accident. LPD0418 OUTSIDE MIRRORS The outside mirror remote control will operate only when the ignition switch is placed in the ACC or ON position. Rotate the round switch 䊊1 to select the right or left mirror. Adjust each mirror to the desired po- sition pushing the round switch. Automatic anti-glare outside mirrors (if so equipped) The outside mirrors will automatically dim during nighttime conditions to reduce the glare from the headlights of trailing vehicles. The automatic anti- glare feature operates only when the ignition switch is placed in the ON position. The automatic anti-glare feature will be on when starting the vehicle. The indicator light on the automatic anti-glare rearview mirror will illuminate when the automatic anti-glare feature is operat- ing. To turn off the anti-glare feature, press the button on the rearview mirror. The indicator light will turn off. To turn on the anti-glare feature again, press button on the rearview mirror. The in- the dicator light will turn on. For information on the automatic anti-glare rear- view mirror, see “Automatic anti-glare rearview mirror” earlier in this section. Power folding outside mirrors (if so equipped) LPD0417 CAUTION Do not manually fold the power folding mirrors. Manually folding the mirrors can damage the mirrors. Press the switch to open or close the mirrors. If one of the mirrors are manually operated or bumped, the mirror body can become loose at the pivot point. To correct electronic mirror op- eration, cycle the mirrors by pushing the “CLOSE” switch until completely closed, then 3-36 Pre-driving checks and adjustments AUTOMATIC DRIVE POSITIONER (if so equipped) The automatic drive positioner system has two features: ● Memory storage function ● Entry/exit function mation, see “Seats” in the “Safety—Seats, seat belts and supplemental restraint sys- tem” section of this manual and “Pedal posi- tion adjustment” and “Outside mirrors” ear- lier in this section. During this step, do not place the ignition switch in any position other than ON. 4. Push the SET switch and, within 5 seconds, push the memory switch (1 or 2). The indicator light for the pushed memory switch will come on and stay on for approxi- mately 5 seconds after pushing the switch. After the indicator light goes off, the se- lected positions are stored in the selected memory (1 or 2). If a new memory is stored in the same memory switch, the previous memory will be deleted. Linking a keyfob to a stored memory position Each keyfob can be linked to a stored memory position (memory switch 1 or 2) with the follow- ing procedure: 1. Follow these procedures to use the memory sys- tem. 1. Place the shift selector in the P (Park) posi- tion. 2. Place the ignition switch in the ON position. 3. Adjust the driver’s seat, accelerator and brake pedals, and outside mirrors to the desired positions by manually operating each adjusting switch. For additional infor- 2. The driver’s seat, the accelerator and brake pedals, and outside mir- rors will move to the memorized position. NOTE: If a new memory position is saved to the memory switch, the keyfob automatically re-links. Confirming memory storage ● Place the ignition switch in the ON position and push the SET switch. If the main memory has not been stored, the indicator light will come on for approximately 0.5 seconds. When the memory has stored the position, the indicator light will stay on for approxi- mately 5 seconds. 3-38 Pre-driving checks and adjustments ● If the battery cable is disconnected, or if the fuse opens, the memory storage function will be canceled and must be restarted before a stored memory position can be set again. Drive the vehicle over 25 MPH (40 km/h) to restart the memory storage function. You can also restart the memory storage function using the following procedure. 1. Connect the battery cable or replace the fuse. 2. Open and close the driver’s door more than 2 times with the ignition switch in the LOCK position. Once the memory storage function has been restarted, you can store a memory position. See “Memory storage function” in this sec- tion. Selecting the memorized position Set the shift selector to the P (Park) position, then: ● Within 45 seconds of opening the driver’s door, push the memory switch (1 or 2) or ● Place the ignition switch in the ON position
