Start the engine and operate the controls to activate the air conditioner. AUTOMATIC OPERATION Cooling or heating (auto) This mode may be normally used all year round as the system automatically works to keep a con- stant temperature. 2. Turn the driver(cid:146)s side temperature control dial to the left or right to set the desired temperature. Driver and passenger tem- peratures can be set independently. Press DUAL to activate dual climate control func- tions. Turn the passenger(cid:146)s side temperature control dial to the left or right to set the desired passenger(cid:146)s temperature.

c Adjust the temperature dial to about 75(cid:176)F

c The air conditioner cooling function op- erates only when the engine is running. c Do not leave children or adults who would normally require the assistance of others alone in your vehicle. Pets should also not be left alone. They could accidentally injure themselves or others through inadvertent operation of the vehicle. Also, on hot, sunny days, temperatures in a closed vehicle could quickly become high enough to cause severe or possibly fatal injuries to people or animals.

c The temperature of the passenger compart- ment will be maintained automatically. Air flow distribution, fan speed and A/C on/off are also controlled automatically.

c A visible mist may be seen coming from the ventilators in hot, humid conditions as the air is cooled rapidly. This does not indicate a malfunction.

Dehumidified defrosting or defogging 1. Push the defroster control button

to turn the system on. The display will show the defrost icon.

2. Turn the temperature dial to the left or right

to set the desired temperature.

c To quickly remove ice from the outside of the windows, press the fan control speed button until it reaches the maximum speed c As soon as possible after the windshield is clean, push the AUTO button to return to the auto mode.

c When the defroster control button

is activated, the air conditioner will automati- cally be turned on at outside temperatures above 36(cid:176)F (2(cid:176)C). If in defrost mode for more than one minute, the air conditioning system will continue to operate until the fan control is turned OFF, the vehicle is shut off,

or the A/C button is pressed even if the air flow MODE control button is used to select a position. This position other than the dehumidifies the air which helps defog the windshield. The air recirculation mode auto- matically turns off, allowing outside air to be drawn into the passenger compartment to further improve the defogging performance.

MANUAL OPERATION Fan speed control buttons Press the fan speed control buttons to manually control the fan speed.

Press OFF to turn the system off.

To turn system off Press the OFF button. OPERATING TIPS c When the engine coolant temperature and outside air temperature are low, the air flow from the foot outlets may not operate for a maximum of 150 seconds. However, this is not a malfunction. After the coolant tempera- ture warms up, air flow from the foot outlets will operate normally.

Rear seat temperature and fan speed can be controlled from both the front seat overhead con- sole controls sA or the rear seat overhead con- sole controls sB . Press the REAR CTRL button to transfer control of the rear climate functions to the rear passen- gers. To operate the rear air conditioner, the engine must be running. If the rear seat fan control dial is set to (0), the air conditioner is turned off. If it is set to any of the fan speed positions, air is discharged from the rear vents at the corresponding speed.

SERVICING AIR CONDITIONER

AUDIO SYSTEM

The air conditioner system in your NISSAN ve- hicle is charged with a refrigerant designed with the environment in mind. This refrigerant does not harm the earth(cid:146)s ozone layer. Special charging equipment and lubricant is re- quired when servicing your NISSAN air condi- tioner. Using improper refrigerants or lubricants will cause severe damage to your air conditioner system. See (cid:147)Air conditioner system refrigerant and lubricant recommendations(cid:148) in the (cid:147)Techni- cal and consumer information(cid:148) section of this manual. A NISSAN dealer is able to service your (cid:147)environ- mentally friendly(cid:148) air conditioning system.

WARNING

The air conditioner system contains re- frigerant under high pressure. To avoid personal injury, any air conditioner ser- vice should be done only by an experi- enced technician with proper equipment.

RADIO Turn the ignition key to the ACC or ON position and press the VOL (volume)/ON•OFF (power) knob to turn the radio on. If you listen to the radio with the engine not running, the key should be turned to the ACC position.

Radio reception is affected by station signal strength, distance from radio transmitter, build- ings, bridges, mountains and other external influ- ences. Intermittent changes in reception quality normally are caused by these external influences. Using a cellular phone in or near the ve- hicle may influence radio reception quality. Radio reception Your NISSAN radio system is equipped with state-of-the-art electronic circuits to enhance ra- dio reception. These circuits are designed to extend reception range, and to enhance the qual- ity of that reception.

However there are some general characteristics of both FM and AM radio signals that can affect radio reception quality in a moving vehicle, even when the finest equipment is used. These char- acteristics are completely normal in a given re- ception area, and do not indicate any malfunction in your NISSAN radio system.

the vehicle outside of any metal or large building for satellite radio to receive all of the necessary data. The satellite radio mode will be skipped unless an optional satellite receiver and antenna are in- stalled and an XMT satellite radio service sub- scription is active. Satellite radio is not available in Alaska, Hawaii and Guam. Satellite radio performance may be affected if cargo carried on the roof blocks the satellite radio signal. If possible, do not put cargo over the satellite antenna.

Reception conditions will constantly change be- cause of vehicle movement. Buildings, terrain, signal distance and interference from other ve- hicles can work against ideal reception. De- scribed below are some of the factors that can affect your radio reception. FM RADIO RECEPTION Range: FM range is normally limited to 25 (cid:150) 30
miles (40 (cid:150) 48 km), with monaural (single chan- nel) FM having slightly more range than stereo FM. External influences may sometimes interfere with FM station reception even if the FM station is within 25 miles (40 km). The strength of the FM signal is directly related to the distance between the transmitter and receiver. FM signals follow a line-of-sight path, exhibiting many of the same characteristics as light. For example, they will reflect off objects.

Fade and drift: As your vehicle moves away from a station transmitter, the signals will tend to fade and/or drift.

Static and flutter: During signal interference from buildings, large hills or due to antenna position (usually in conjunction with increased distance from the station transmitter) static or flutter can be heard. This can be reduced by adjusting the treble control to reduce treble response.

Multipath reception: Because of the reflective characteristics of FM signals, direct and reflected signals reach the receiver at the same time. The signals may cancel each other, resulting in mo- mentary flutter or loss of sound. AM RADIO RECEPTION AM signals, because of their low frequency, can bend around objects and skip along the ground. In addition, the signals can be bounced off the ionosphere and bent back to earth. Because of these characteristics, AM signals are also sub- ject to interference as they travel from transmitter to receiver.

Fading: Occurs while the vehicle is passing through freeway underpasses or in areas with many tall buildings. It can also occur for several seconds during ionospheric turbulence even in areas where no obstacles exist.

Static: Caused by thunderstorms, electrical power lines, electric signs and even traffic lights. SATELLITE RADIO RECEPTION (if so equipped) When the satellite radio is first installed or the battery has been replaced, the satellite radio may not work properly. This is not a malfunction. Wait more than 10 minutes with satellite radio ON and

Compact disc (CD) player

CAUTION

c Do not force a compact disc into the CD insert slot. This could damage the CD and/or CD changer/player.

c Trying to load a CD with the CD door closed could damage the CD and/or CD changer.

c Only one CD can be loaded into the CD

player at a time.

CHECK DISC: c Confirm that the CD is inserted cor- rectly (the label side is facing up, etc.).

c Confirm that the CD is not bent or

warped and it is free of scratches.

PRESS EJECT:

This is an error due to excessive tem- perature inside the player. Remove the CD by pressing the EJECT button. After a short time, reinsert the CD. The CD can be played when the temperature of the player returns to normal.

UNPLAYABLE:

The file is unplayable in this audio sys- tem (only MP3 CD).

CompactFlash(cid:153) (CF) player c Do not force a CF card into the slot. This

could damage the CF card and/or player.

c During cold weather or rainy days, the player may malfunction due to the humidity. If this occurs, remove the CF card and dehumidify or ventilate the player completely.

c The CF player sometimes cannot function when the passenger compartment tempera-

MP3 is the most well-known compressed digital audio file format. This format allows for near (cid:147)CD quality(cid:148) sound, but at a fraction of the size of normal audio files. MP3 conversion of an audio track from CD/CF can reduce the file size by approximately 10:1 ratio (Sampling: 44.1 kHz, Bit rate: 128 kbps) with virtually no perceptible loss in quality. MP3 compres- sion removes the redundant and irrelevant parts of a sound signal that the human ear doesn(cid:146)t hear.

c WMA (cid:151) Windows Media Audio (WMA)* is a compressed audio format created by Mi- crosoft as an alternative to MP3. The WMA codec offers greater file compression than the MP3 codec, enabling storage of more digital audio tracks in the same amount of

c Bit rate (cid:151) Bit rate denotes the number of bits per second used by a digital music file. The size and quality of a compressed digital audio file is determined by the bit rate used when encoding the file.

c Sampling frequency (cid:151) Sampling frequency is the rate at which the samples of a signal are converted from analog to digital (A/D conversion) per second.

c Multisession (cid:151) Multisession is one of the methods for writing data to media. Writing data once to the media is called a single session, and writing more than once is called a multisession.

c ID3/WMA Tag (cid:151) The ID3/WMA tag is the part of the encoded MP3 or WMA file that contains information about the digital music file such as song title, artist, album title, encoding bit rate, track time duration, etc. ID3 tag information is displayed on the Album/Artist/Track title line on the display.

Troubleshooting guide:

Symptom

Cause and Countermeasure

Check if the CD/CF was inserted correctly. Check if the CD/CF is scratched or dirty. Check if there is condensation inside the player. If there is, wait until the condensation is gone (about 1 hour) before using the player. If there is a temperature increase error, the player will play correctly after it returns to the normal temperature. Files with extensions other than (cid:147).MP3(cid:148), (cid:147).mp3(cid:148) or (cid:147).wma(cid:148) cannot be played. In addition, the character codes and number of characters for folder names and file names should be in compliance with the specifications. Check if the disc or the file is generated in an irregular format. This may occur depending on the variation or the setting of MP3/WMA writing applica- tions or other text editing applications. Check if the finalization process, such as session close and disc close, is done for the disc. Check if the CD/CF is protected by copyright. Check if the CD/CF is scratched or dirty. If there are many folders or file levels on the MP3/WMA CD/CF, or if it is a multisession disc, some time may be required before the music starts playing.

The writing software and hardware combination might not match, or the writing speed, writing depth, writing width, etc., might not match the specifications. Try using the slowest writing speed. Skipping may occur with large quantities of data, such as for high bit rate data.

When a non-MP3/WMA file has been given an extension of (cid:147).MP3(cid:148), (cid:147).WMA(cid:148), .(cid:147)mp3(cid:148)or (cid:147).wma(cid:148), or when play is prohibited by copyright protection, the player will skip to the next song. The playback order is the order in which the files were written by the writing software. Therefore, the files might not play in the desired order.

FM/AM/SAT RADIO WITH COMPACT DISC (CD) CHANGER (if so equipped) For all operation precautions, see (cid:147)Audio opera- tion precautions(cid:148) earlier in this section. The satellite radio mode will be skipped unless an optional satellite receiver and antenna are in- stalled and an XMT satellite radio service sub- scription is active. Satellite radio is not available in Alaska, Hawaii and Guam. Audio main operation VOL/ON•OFF control: Turn the ignition key to ACC or ON, and then push the VOL/ON•OFF control knob while the system is off to call up the mode (radio or CD) which was playing immediately before the system was turned off. To turn the system off, press the VOL/ON•OFF control knob.

Turn the VOL/ON•OFF control knob to adjust the volume. This vehicle has Speed Sensitive Volume (SSV) for audio. The audio volume changes as the driv- ing speed changes. AUDIO knob (Bass, Treble, Fade and Bal- ance): Press the AUDIO knob to change the mode as follows: Bass ! Treble ! Fade ! Balance To adjust Bass, Treble, Fade and Balance, press the AUDIO knob until the desired mode appears in the display. Turn the Tuning knob to adjust Bass and Treble to the desired level. You can also use the Tuning knob to adjust Fader and Balance modes. Fader adjusts the sound level between the front and rear speakers and Balance adjusts the sound between the right and left speakers. Once you have adjusted the sound quality to the desired level, press the AUDIO knob repeatedly until the radio or CD display reappears. Other- wise, the radio or CD display will automatically reappear after about 10 seconds.

Speed Sensitive Volume (SSV):

To change the SSV mode from OFF to 5, press the SETTING button. Then select the (cid:147)Audio(cid:148) key using the NISSAN controller, then press the EN- TER button; the audio settings screen will be displayed. Select the (cid:147)(cid:150)(cid:148) key or (cid:147)+(cid:148) key, then press the ENTER button to change the SSV.

While in this screen you can also adjust the other audio settings by selecting the corresponding key.

Once you have adjusted the sound quality to the desired level, press the BACK button.

Precision phased audio (if so equipped):

To turn on or off the precision phased audio, press the SETTING button. Select the (cid:147)Audio(cid:148) key using the NISSAN controller, then press the ENTER button, the audio settings screen will be displayed. Select the (cid:147)Precision Phased Audio(cid:148) key, then press the ENTER button. If the amber indicator light is displayed the precision phased audio is enabled. Pressing the ENTER button again will turn off the precision phased audio, the indicator light will disappear.

When this item is turned on, super high pitch sound and super low pitch sound are empha- sized and midrange sound is played naturally.

PAUSE•MUTE button:

To mute or pause the audio sound, press the PAUSE•MUTE button.

Press the PAUSE•MUTE button again to resume the audio sound. FM/AM/SAT radio operation FM/AM/SAT band select:

Pressing the RADIO AM•FM button will change the band as follows: AM ˆ! FM or SAT* (satellite, if so equipped) When the RADIO AM•FM button is pressed while the ignition switch is in the ACC or ON position, the radio will come on at the station last played.

The last station played will also come on when the VOL/ON•OFF control knob is pressed ON.

The FM stereo indicator ST will illuminate during FM stereo reception. When the stereo broadcast signal is weak, the radio will automatically change from stereo to monaural reception. TUNE/FLDR (Tuning) knob: To manually tune the radio, turn the TUNE/FLDR knob to the right or left.

SEEK/CAT and TRACK tuning buttons:

1. Choose preset bank A, B or C using the

PRESET A•B•C select button.

2. Select the desired FM, AM or SAT station

band.

Turn the VOL/ON•OFF control knob to adjust the volume. This vehicle has Speed Sensitive Volume (SSV) for audio. The audio volume changes as the driv- ing speed changes. AUDIO knob (Bass, Treble, Fade and Bal- ance): Press the AUDIO knob to change the mode as follows: Bass ! Treble ! Fade ! Balance To adjust Bass, Treble, Fade and Balance, press the AUDIO knob until the desired mode appears in the display. Turn the Tuning knob to adjust Bass and Treble to the desired level. You can also use the Tuning knob to adjust Fader and Balance modes. Fader adjusts the sound level between the front and rear speakers and Balance adjusts the sound between the right and left speakers. Once you have adjusted the sound quality to the desired level, press the AUDIO knob repeatedly until the radio or CD display reappears. Other- wise, the radio or CD display will automatically reappear after about 10 seconds.

Automatic recording: If the (cid:147)Automatic Recording(cid:148) function is turned to ON, recording starts when a CD is inserted. For more information, see (cid:147)Music Box settings(cid:148) later in this section. Stopping recording: To stop the recording, touch the (cid:147)STOP(cid:148) key on the screen. If the CD is ejected, the audio system is turned off or the ignition switch is turned to the OFF position, the recording also stops.

Stopping playback:
