proper size and type (summer or winter tyre).
i Vehicles with MOExtended tyres are not equipped with a TIREFIT kit at the factory. It is therefore recommended that you addi- tionally equip your vehicle with a TIREFIT kit if you fit tyres that do not feature run-flat characteristics, e.g. winter tyres. A TIREFIT kit can be obtained from a qualified spe- cialist workshop.
Important safety notes G WARNING When driving in emergency mode, the driving characteristics deteriorate, e.g. when corner- ing, accelerating quickly and when braking. There is a risk of accident. Do not exceed the stated maximum speed. Avoid abrupt steering and driving manoeu- vres, and driving over obstacles (kerbs, pot- holes, off-road). This applies in particular to a laden vehicle. Stop driving in emergency mode if: Ryou hear banging noises. Rthe vehicle starts to shake. Ryou see smoke and smell rubber. RESP® is intervening constantly. Rthere are tears in the sidewalls of the tyre. After driving in emergency mode, have the wheel rims checked at a qualified specialist workshop with regard to their further use. The faulty tyre must be replaced.

tyre must not show any clearly visible dam- age. You can recognise MOExtended tyres by the MOExtended marking which appears on the tyre wall. You will find this marking next to the tyre size designation, the load-bearing capa- city and the speed index. MOExtended tyres may only be used in con- junction with an active tyre pressure loss warning system. If the pressure loss warning message appears in the multifunction display: Robserve the instructions in the display mes-
sages (Y page 312)
Rcheck the tyre for damage Rif driving on, observe the following notes The maximum driving distance is approx- imately 80 km when the vehicle is partially laden and approximately 30 km when the vehicle is fully laden. In addition to the vehicle load, the driving dis- tance possible depends upon: Rspeed Rroad condition Routside temperature The driving distance possible in run-flat mode may be reduced by extreme driving condi- tions/manoeuvres, or it can be increased through a moderate style of driving. The maximum permissible distance which can be driven in run-flat mode is counted from the moment the tyre pressure loss warning appears in the multifunction display. You must not exceed a maximum speed of 80 km/h. i When replacing one or all tyres, make
sure that you use only: Rthe tyre size specified for the vehicle and Rtyre(s) marked "MOExtended" If a tyre has gone flat and cannot be replaced with an MOExtended tyre, a standard tyre may be used as a temporary measure. Make sure that you use the

X Turn the key to position 1 in the ignition
lock (Y page 177).
X Press on/off switch = on the tyre inflation
compressor to I. The tyre inflation compressor is switched on. The tyre is inflated.
i First, tyre sealant is pumped into the tyre.
The pressure may briefly rise to approx- imately 500 kPa (5 bar/73 psi). Do not switch off the tyre inflation com- pressor during this phase.
X Let the tyre inflation compressor run for five minutes. The tyre should then have attained a pressure of at least 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi).
If a pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi) has been attained after five minutes, see "Tyre pressure reached" (Y page 388). If a tyre pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/ 26 psi) has not been attained after five minutes, see "Tyre pressure not reached" (Y page 388). i If the tyre sealant leaks out, allow it to dry. It can then be removed like a layer of film.
388 Flat tyre
If you get tyre sealant on your clothing, have it cleaned as soon as possible with perchloroethylene.
Tyre pressure not reached If a pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi) has not been achieved after five minutes: X Switch off the tyre inflation compressor. X Unscrew the filler hose from the valve of
the faulty tyre.
X Very slowly drive forwards or reverse
approximately 10 m.
X Pump up the tyre again.
After a maximum of five minutes the tyre pressure must be at least 180 kPa (1.8 bar/ 26 psi). G WARNING If the required tyre pressure is not reached after the specified time, the tyre is too badly damaged. The tyre sealant cannot repair the tyre in this instance. Damaged tyres and a tyre pressure that is too low can significantly impair the vehicle's braking and driving char- acteristics. There is a risk of accident. Do not continue driving. Contact a qualified specialist workshop.
Tyre pressure reached G WARNING A tyre temporarily sealed with tyre sealant impairs the driving characteristics and is not suitable for higher speeds. There is a risk of accident. You should therefore adapt your driving style accordingly and drive carefully. Do not exceed the specified maximum speed with a tyre that has been repaired using tyre sealant.
! After use, excess tyre sealant may run out of the filler hose. This could cause stains. Therefore, place the filler hose in the plastic bag which contained the TIREFIT kit.
H Environmental note Have the used tyre sealant bottle disposed of professionally, e.g. at a qualified specialist workshop.
If a tyre pressure of 180 kPa (1.8 bar/26 psi) has been attained after five minutes: X Switch off the tyre inflation compressor. X Unscrew the filler hose from the valve of
the faulty tyre.
X Stow the tyre sealant bottle, the tyre infla- tion compressor and the warning triangle.
X Pull away immediately.
The maximum speed for a tyre sealed with tyre sealant is 80 km/h. The upper part of the TIREFIT sticker must be affixed to the instrument cluster where it will be easily seen by the driver.
X Stop after driving for approximately ten
minutes and check the tyre pressure with the tyre inflation compressor. The tyre pressure must now be at least 130 kPa (1.3 bar/19 psi). G WARNING If the required tyre pressure is not reached after driving for a short period, the tyre is too badly damaged. The tyre sealant cannot repair the tyre in this instance. Damaged tyres and a tyre pressure that is too low can signif- icantly impair the vehicle's braking and driv- ing characteristics. There is a risk of accident. Do not continue driving. Contact a qualified specialist workshop.
X Correct the tyre pressure if it is still at least 130 kPa (1.3 bar/19 psi) (see the fuel filler flap for values).
X To increase the tyre pressure: switch on
the tyre inflation compressor.

the battery carried out at a qualified specialist workshop. G WARNING Work carried out incorrectly on the battery may lead to a malfunction, e.g. a short circuit. This, in turn, may restrict the functions of the safety-relevant systems, e.g. the lighting sys- tem, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) or ESP® (Electronic Stability Program). The oper- ating safety of your vehicle may then be com- promised. You could then lose control of the vehicle, e.g.: Rwhen braking Rwhen making sudden steering movements
and/or travelling at an inappropriate speed.
There is a risk of an accident. In the event of a short circuit or similar situa- tion, inform a qualified specialist workshop immediately. Do not drive any further. You should have all work involving the battery car- ried out at a qualified specialist workshop.
For further information about ABS and ESP®, see (Y page 72) and (Y page 77). G WARNING Electrostatic build-up can lead to the creation of sparks, which could ignite the highly explo- sive gases of a battery. There is a risk of an explosion. Before handling the battery, touch the vehicle body to remove any existing electrostatic build-up.
The highly flammable gas mixture is created while the battery is charging and when jump- starting. Always make sure that neither you nor the battery is electrostatically charged. Electro- static charge is created, for example: Rby wearing synthetic fibre clothing Rdue to friction between clothing and the
seat

G WARNING If the weight of the vehicle to be towed or tow- started is greater than the permissible gross weight of your vehicle: Rthe towing eye could detach itself Rthe vehicle/trailer combination could over-
turn.
There is a risk of an accident. When towing or tow-starting another vehicle, its weight should not be greater than the per- missible gross weight of your vehicle.
Information on your vehicle's gross vehicle weight rating can be found on the vehicle identification plate (Y page 468). ! If DISTRONIC PLUS or the HOLD function is activated, the vehicle brakes automati- cally in certain situations. To prevent dam- age to the vehicle, deactivate DISTRONIC PLUS and the HOLD function in the follow- ing or other similar situations: Rwhen towing the vehicle Rin the car wash
! Only secure the tow cable or tow bar to the towing eyes or, if available, to the trailer
tow hitch. You could otherwise damage the vehicle.
! Observe the following points when towing
with a tow rope: RSecure the tow rope on the same side on
both vehicles.
RMake sure that the tow rope is not longer than legally permitted. Mark the tow rope in the middle, e.g. with a white cloth (30 x 30 cm). This will make other road users aware that a vehicle is being towed.
ROnly secure the tow cable to the towing
eyes or, if available, to the trailer tow hitch.
RObserve the brake lamps of the towing vehicle while driving. Always maintain a distance a distance so that the tow rope does not sag.
RDo not use steel cables or chains to tow your vehicle. You could otherwise dam- age the vehicle.
! Do not use the towing eye for recovery, this could damage the vehicle. If in doubt, recover the vehicle with a crane.
! Pull away smoothly when towing away or tow-starting a vehicle. If the tractive power is too high, the vehicles could be damaged.

Always replace wheels and tyres with those that fulfil the specifications of the original part. When replacing wheels, make sure to fit the correct: Rdesignation Rtype When replacing tyres, make sure to fit the correct: Rdesignation Rmanufacturer Rtype G WARNING A flat tyre severely impairs the driving, steer- ing and braking characteristics of the vehicle. There is a risk of accident. Tyres without run-flat characteristics: Rdo not drive with a flat tyre. Rimmediately replace the flat tyre with your emergency spare wheel or spare wheel, or consult a qualified specialist workshop.
Tyres with run-flat characteristics: Rpay attention to the information and warn-
ing notices on MOExtended tyres (tyres with run-flat characteristics).
Accessories that are not approved for your vehicle by Mercedes-Benz or are not being used correctly can impair the operating safety. Before purchasing and using non-approved accessories, visit a qualified specialist work- shop and enquire about: Rsuitability Rlegal stipulations Rfactory recommendations Information on the dimensions and types of wheels and tyres for your vehicle can be found under "Wheel/tyre combinations" (Y page 419). Information on air pressure for the tyres on your vehicle can be found: Ron the tyre pressure label on the fuel filler
flap (Y page 196)
Runder "Tyre pressure" (Y page 407) Modification work on the brake system and wheels is not permitted. The use of wheel spacers or brake dust shields is not permit- ted. This invalidates the general operating permit for the vehicle. i Further information on wheels and tyres can be obtained at any qualified specialist workshop.
Operation Information on driving Check the tyre pressures when the vehicle is heavily laden and, if necessary, adjust. While driving, pay attention to vibrations, noises and unusual handling characteristics, e.g. pulling to one side. This may indicate that the wheels or tyres are damaged. If you sus- pect that a tyre is defective, reduce your speed immediately. Stop the vehicle as soon

as possible to check the wheels and tyres for damage. Hidden tyre damage could also be causing the unusual handling characteristics. If you find no signs of damage, have the tyres and wheels checked at a qualified specialist workshop. When parking your vehicle, make sure that the tyres are not deformed by the kerb or other obstacles. If it is necessary to drive over kerbs, speed humps or similar elevations, try to do so slowly and at an obtuse angle. Oth- erwise, the tyres, particularly the sidewalls, may be damaged.
other valve caps or systems, e.g. tyre pres- sure monitoring systems. Regularly check the pressure of all the tyres, particularly prior to long trips. Adjust the tyre pressure as necessary (Y page 407). Observe the notes on the emergency spare wheel (Y page 459). The service life of tyres depends on various factors, including the following: Rdriving style Rtyre pressure Rmileage
Regular checking of wheels and tyres G WARNING Damaged tyres can cause tyre inflation pres- sure loss. As a result, you could lose control of your vehicle. There is a risk of accident. Check the tyres regularly for signs of damage and replace any damaged tyres immediately.
Regularly check the wheels and tyres of your vehicle for damage at least once a month, as well as after driving off-road or on rough roads. Damaged wheels can cause a loss of tyre pressure. Pay particular attention to damage such as: Rcuts in the tyres Rpunctures Rtears in the tyres Rbulges on tyres Rdeformation or severe corrosion on wheels Regularly check the tyre tread depth and the condition of the tread across the whole width of the tyre (Y page 405). If necessary, turn the front wheels to full lock in order to inspect the inner side of the tyre surface. All wheels must have a valve cap to protect the valve against dirt and moisture. Do not fit anything onto the valve other than the stand- ard valve cap or other valve caps approved by Mercedes-Benz for your vehicle. Do not fit any
