X Mount the collapsible emergency spare
wheel as described (Y page 413). The collapsible emergency spare wheel must be mounted before it is inflated.
X Pull connector ? and the air hose out of
the housing.
X Remove the cap from the valve on the col-
lapsible emergency spare wheel.
X Screw union nut : on the air hose onto the
valve.
X Make sure on/off switch A of the tyre
inflation compressor is set to 0.

X Insert connector ? into the cigarette
lighter socket or into a 12 V socket in your vehicle. Observe the notes on the cigarette lighter (Y page 352). Observe the notes on sock- ets (Y page 353).
X Turn the key to position 1 in the ignition
lock (Y page 177).
X Press on/off switch A on the tyre inflation
compressor to I. The tyre inflation compressor is switched on. The tyre is inflated. The tyre pressure is shown on pressure gauge =.
X Pump the tyre to the specified tyre pres-
sure. The specified tyre pressure is printed on the yellow label of the emergency spare wheel.
X When the specified tyre pressure has been
reached, press on/off switch A on the electric air pump to 0. The tyre inflation compressor is switched off.
X Turn the key to position 0 in the ignition
lock.
X If the tyre pressure is higher than the speci- fied pressure, press pressure release but- ton ; until the correct tyre pressure has been reached.
X Unscrew union nut : on the air hose from
the valve.
X Screw the valve cap onto the collapsible
emergency spare wheel valve again.
X Stow plug ? and the air hose in the lower
section of the blower housing.
X Stow the tyre inflation compressor in the
vehicle.

Only have work carried out on the engine electronics and its associated parts, such as control units, sensors and connector leads, at a qualified specialist workshop. Vehicle components may otherwise wear more quickly and the vehicle's operating permit may be invalidated.
Retrofitting two-way radios and mobile phones (RF transmitters) G WARNING If RF transmitters are tampered with or not properly retrofitted, the electromagnetic radi- ation they emit can interfere with the vehicle electronics. This may jeopardise the opera- tional safety of the vehicle. There is a risk of an accident. You should have all work on electrical and electronic components carried out at a quali- fied specialist workshop. G WARNING If you use the RF transmitter in the vehicle in an improper way, its electromagnetic radia- tion can disrupt vehicle electronics, e.g. if: Rthe RF transmitter is not connected to an
exterior aerial
Rthe exterior aerial is fitted incorrectly or is
not a low-reflection aerial
This can jeopardise the operating safety of the vehicle. There is a risk of an accident. Have the low-reflection exterior aerial fitted at a qualified specialist workshop. When oper- ating in the vehicle, always connect the RF transmitter to the low-reflection exterior aer- ial.
! The operating permit may be invalidated if the instructions for installation and use of RF transmitters are not observed.
In particular, the following conditions must be complied with: Ronly approved wavebands may be used. Robserve the maximum permissible out-
put in these wavebands.
Ronly approved aerial positions may be
used.
Excessive levels of electromagnetic radiation may cause damage to your health and to the health of others. The use of an exterior aerial takes into consideration the scientific discus- sion surrounding the possible health risk posed by electromagnetic fields. Observe the notes on operating mobile phones (Y page 353). The following aerial positions may be used for the correct installation of RF transmitters:

Estate: approved aerial positions : Front roof area ; Rear roof area = Rear wing i When fitting an aerial on the front roof area of vehicles with a sliding sunroof, observe the sweeping range of the roof. On vehicles with panorama sliding sunroof, fitting an aerial to the front or rear roof area is not permitted. On the rear wing, it is recommended that you position the aerial on the side of the vehicle closest to the centre of the road. Use Technical Specification ISO/TS 21609
(Road Vehicles – "EMC guidelines for fitting aftermarket radio frequency transmitting equipment") when retrofitting RF (radio fre- quency) transmitters. Comply with the legal requirements for add-on parts. If your vehicle has fittings for two-way radio equipment, use the power supply or aerial connections intended for use with the basic wiring. Be sure to observe the manufacturer's additional instructions when installing. You can identify service products approved by Mercedes-Benz by the following inscrip- tions on the container: RMB-Freigabe (e.g. MB-Freigabe 229.51) RMB Approval (e.g. MB Approval 229.51) Other designations or recommendations indi- cate a level of quality or a specification in accordance with an MB Sheet Number (e.g. MB 229.5). You must avoid fire, naked flames, creating sparks and smoking. Switch off the engine and, if applicable, the auxiliary heating before refuelling. G WARNING Fuels are poisonous and hazardous to health. There is a danger of injury. Do not swallow fuel or let it come into contact with skin, eyes or clothing. Do not inhale fuel vapours. Keep fuels out of the reach of chil- dren. If you or others come into contact with fuel, observe the following: RWash the fuel off any affected areas of skin
with water and soap immediately.
RIf you get fuel in your eyes, rinse them thor- oughly with clean water immediately. Seek immediate medical attention.
RIf fuel is swallowed, seek immediate medi-
cal attention. Do not induce vomiting.
RChange any clothing that has come into
contact with fuel immediately.

Petrol (EN 228, E DIN 51626-1) Fuel grade ! Do not use diesel to refuel vehicles with a petrol engine. Do not switch on the ignition if you accidentally refuel with the wrong fuel. Otherwise, fuel can enter the fuel sys- tem. Even small amounts of the wrong fuel could result in damage to the fuel system and the engine. Notify a qualified specialist workshop and have the fuel tank and fuel lines drained completely.
! Only refuel using premium-grade unlea- ded petrol with at least 95 ROZ/85 MOZ, that conforms to European standard EN 228 or E DIN 51626–1 or an equivalent specification. Fuel of this specification can contain up to 10 % ethanol. Fuel that does not conform to EN 228 or E DIN 51626–1 can lead to increased wear and damage the engine and exhaust sys- tem.
! Only use the fuel recommended. Operat- ing the vehicle with other fuels can lead to engine failure.
! Do not use the following:

RPetrol with additives containing metal RDiesel Do not mix such fuels with the fuel recom- mended for your vehicle. Do not use addi- tives. This can otherwise lead to engine damage. This does not include cleaning additives for the removal and prevention of residue build-up. Petrol must only be mixed with additives recommended by Mercedes- Benz; see "Additives". You can obtain fur- ther information from any Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
Usually you will find information about the fuel grade on the pump. If you cannot find the label on the petrol pump, ask the filling sta- tion staff. i E10 fuel contains up to 10% bioethanol. Your vehicle is suitable for use with E10
fuel. You can refuel your vehicle using E10
fuel.i As a temporary measure, if the recom-
mended fuel is not available, you may also use unleaded petrol with an octane rating of 91 RON/82 MON. This may reduce engine performance and increase fuel con- sumption. Avoid driving at full throttle and sudden acceleration. Never refuel using fuel with a lower RON/MON.
i In some countries, the available petrol
may not be sufficiently low in sulphur. This fuel can temporarily produce unpleasant odours, especially on short journeys. As soon as sulphur-free fuel (sulphur content < 10 ppm) is used for refuelling, the odours are reduced.
Information on refuelling (Y page 196). AMG vehicles ! Only refuel using super unleaded petrol with at least 98 RON/88 MON that con- forms to European standard EN 228 or an equivalent specification. You can otherwise impair engine output or damage the engine.

! Premium-grade unleaded petrol with an octane rating of 95 RON/85 MON may be used as a temporary measure if the recom- mended fuel is not available. This may reduce engine performance and increase fuel consumption. As much as possible, avoid driving at full throttle.
! Regular unleaded petrol with an octane rating of 91 RON/82.5 MON may also be used as a temporary measure if the recom- mended fuel is not available. Doing so results in noticeably higher fuel consumption, and the engine power output is noticeably reduced. Avoid driving at full throttle. If only regular unleaded petrol with an octane rating of 91 RON/82.5 MON or lower is available, you must have the vehi- cle adapted to this fuel at a qualified spe- cialist workshop.
i E10 fuel contains up to 10 % bioethanol.
Your vehicle is suitable for use with E10
fuel. You can refuel your vehicle using E10
fuel.E 200, E 250, E 300, E 300 4MATIC, E 350

prevention of residue build-up. Petrol must only be mixed with additives recommended by Mercedes-Benz. Observe the instruc- tions for use in the product description. More information about recommended additives can be obtained from any Mercedes-Benz Service Centre.
Mercedes-Benz recommends that you use fuel brands that have additives. The quality of the fuel available in some coun- tries may not be sufficient. Residue could build up as a result. In such cases, and in consultation with a Mercedes-Benz Service Centre, the petrol may be mixed with the cleaning additive recommended by Mercedes-Benz (part no. A000989254512). You must observe the notes and mixing ratios specified on the container.
Diesel (EN 590) Fuel grade G WARNING If you mix diesel fuel with petrol, the flash point of this fuel mixture is lower than that of pure diesel fuel. When the engine is running, components in the exhaust system may over- heat unnoticed. There is a risk of fire. Never refuel with petrol. Never add petrol to diesel fuel.
! When refuelling, only use diesel fuel that conforms to the European standard EN 590
or is of equivalent quality. Fuel that does not conform to EN 590 can lead to increased wear as well as damage to the engine and exhaust system. ! Do not use the following:Rmarine diesel Rheating oil Rbio-diesel Rvegetable oil Rpetrol Rparaffin Rkerosene
Do not mix such fuels with diesel fuel and do not use any special additives. This can otherwise lead to engine damage.
! Vehicles with diesel particle filters: in countries outside the EU, only use low sul- phur Euro diesel with a sulphur content of under 50 ppm. Otherwise, the emission control system could be damaged.
! Vehicles without a diesel particle fil- ter: in countries where only diesel fuel with a high sulphur content is available, you will need to carry out your vehicle's oil change at shorter intervals. More information about the interval for oil change can be obtained from any qualified specialist workshop.
Usually you will find information about the fuel grade on the pump. If you cannot find the label on the petrol pump, ask the filling sta- tion staff. Information on refuelling (Y page 196). Low outside temperatures In winter months, diesel fuel with an improved cold flow quality is available. In Europe, the EN 590 standard defines various climate- dependent temperature categories. Malfunc- tions can be avoided by refuelling with diesel fuel that corresponds to the climatic specifi- cations outlined in EN 590. At unusually low outside temperatures, it is possible that the flow characteristics of the diesel fuel could be insufficient. Accordingly, diesel fuel from warmer areas may not be suitable for opera- tion in colder climatic conditions. i Further information on country-specific
fuel properties and fuel types with low-tem- perature resistance can be obtained from oil companies, e.g. at filling stations.
Fuel consumption information H Environmental note CO2 (carbon dioxide) is the gas which scien- tists believe to be principally responsible for global warming (the greenhouse effect). Your
vehicle's CO2 emissions are directly related to fuel consumption and therefore depend on: Refficient use of the fuel by the engine Rdriving style Rother non-technical factors, such as envi- ronmental influences, road conditions or traffic flow
You can minimise your vehicle's CO2 emis- sions by driving carefully and having it serv- iced regularly.
The vehicle will use more fuel than usual in the following situations: Rat very low outside temperatures Rin urban traffic Ron short journeys Rin mountainous terrain Rwhen towing a trailer i Only for certain countries: you can find
the current consumption and emission val- ues of your vehicle in the COC documents (EU CERTIFICATE OF CONFORMITY). These documents are delivered with your vehicle. The consumption figures were in each case based on the currently applicable version: Rfor vehicles that comply with standards up to and including the EURO 4 standard, in accordance with EU Directive 80/1268/EEC

AdBlue® is a water-soluble fluid for the exhaust gas aftertreatment of diesel engines. It is: Rnon-toxic Rcolourless and odourless Rnon-flammable If you open the AdBlue® tank, small amounts of ammonia vapour may be released. Ammonia vapours have a pungent odour and are particularly irritating to the skin, to mucous membranes and to the eyes. You may experience a burning sensation in your eyes, nose and throat. You may also experience coughing and watery eyes. Do not inhale any ammonia vapours that may be released. Only fill the AdBlue® tank in well- ventilated areas.
Low outside temperatures AdBlue® freezes at a temperature of approx- imately -11 †. The vehicle is delivered from the factory equipped with an AdBlue® pre- heating system. Winter operation can thus be guaranteed even at temperatures below -11 †.
Additives ! Only use AdBlue® in accordance with ISO 22241. Do not use additives with AdBlue® and do not dilute AdBlue® with water. This may destroy the BlueTEC exhaust gas after- treatment system.
Purity ! Impurities in AdBlue® (e.g. due to other service products, cleaning agents or dust) lead to: Rincreased emission values Rdamage to the catalytic converter Rengine damage Rmalfunctions in the BlueTEC® exhaust
gas aftertreatment system

Assuring the purity of AdBlue® is particularly important with respect to avoiding malfunc- tions in the BlueTEC exhaust gas aftertreat- ment system. If AdBlue® is pumped out of the AdBlue® tank, e.g. during repair work, do not use this fluid to refill the tank. The purity of the fluid can no longer be guaranteed.

Engine oil General notes Comply with the important safety notes for service products when handling engine oil (Y page 469). The quality of the engine oil is decisive for the function and service life of an engine. After extensive tests, Mercedes-Benz approves engine oils that correspond to the current technical standard. Therefore, only Mercedes-Benz approved engine oils may be used in Mercedes-Benz engines. Further information on tested and approved engine oils can be obtained from any Mercedes-Benz Service Centre. Mercedes- Benz recommends that you have the oil change carried out at a qualified specialist workshop. Mercedes-Benz approval is indica- ted on the oil container by the inscription "MB Approval" and the corresponding designa- tion, e.g. MB Approval 229.51.

Brake fluid G WARNING The brake fluid continuously absorbs mois- ture from the air. This results in the boiling point of the brake fluid lowering. If the boiling point of the brake fluid is too low, vapour pockets may form when the brakes are sub- jected to a heavy load. This would impair brak- ing efficiency. There is a risk of an accident. Have the brake fluid renewed at the prescri- bed intervals.
Comply with the important safety notes for service products when handling brake fluid (Y page 469). The brake fluid change intervals can be found in the Service Booklet. Only use brake fluid approved by Mercedes- Benz according to MB Approval 331.0. Information about approved brake fluid can be obtained at any qualified specialist work- shop or on the Internet at: http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com. i Have the brake fluid regularly replaced at
a qualified specialist workshop and the replacement confirmed in the Service Booklet.
Viscosity describes the flow characteristics of a fluid. If an engine oil has a high viscosity rating, it flows slowly; the lower the viscosity, the faster it flows. Engine oil selection is based on the respective outside temperatures and in accordance with the SAE classification (viscosity). The table shows you which SAE classifications are to be used. The low-temperature properties of engine oils can be significantly impaired dur- ing operation due to, for example, ageing or
Coolant Important safety notes G WARNING If antifreeze comes into contact with hot com- ponents in the engine compartment, it may ignite. There is a risk of fire and injury. Let the engine cool down before you top up the antifreeze. Make sure that antifreeze is not spilled next to the filler neck. Thoroughly

clean the antifreeze from components before starting the engine.
! Only add coolant that has been premixed with the desired antifreeze protection. You could otherwise damage the engine. Further information on coolants can be found in the Mercedes-Benz Specifications for Service Products, MB Specifications for Service Products 310.1, e.g. on the Inter- net at http://bevo.mercedes-benz.com. Or contact a qualified specialist workshop.
! Always use a suitable coolant mixture,
even in countries where high temperatures prevail. Otherwise, the engine cooling system is not sufficiently protected from corrosion and overheating.
i Have the coolant regularly replaced at a
qualified specialist workshop and the replacement confirmed in the Service Booklet.
Comply with the important safety precautions for service products when handling coolant (Y page 469). The coolant is a mixture of water and anti- freeze/corrosion inhibitor. It is responsible for the following: Ranti-corrosion protection Rantifreeze protection Rraising the boiling point If antifreeze/corrosion inhibitor is present in the correct concentration, the boiling point of the coolant during operation will be approx- imately 130 †. The antifreeze/corrosion inhibitor concentra- tion in the engine cooling system should: Rbe at least 50%. This will protect the engine
cooling system against freezing down to approximately -37 †.
Rnot exceed 55% (antifreeze protection
down to -45 †). Heat will otherwise not be dissipated as effectively.
If the vehicle has lost coolant, top it up with equal amounts of water and antifreeze/cor- rosion inhibitor. Mercedes-Benz recommends an antifreeze/ corrosion inhibitor concentrate in accord- ance with MB Specifications for Service Products 310.1. i When the vehicle is first delivered, it is fil-
led with a coolant mixture that ensures adequate antifreeze and corrosion protec- tion.
i The coolant is checked at every mainte-
nance interval at a qualified specialist workshop.
Windscreen washer system Important safety notes G WARNING Windscreen washer concentrate is highly flammable. If it comes into contact with hot engine components or the exhaust system it could ignite. There is a risk of fire and injury. Make sure that no windscreen washer con- centrate is spilled next to the filler neck.
! Do not use distilled or de-ionised water in the washer fluid reservoir. Otherwise, the level sensor may be damaged.
! Only the washer fluids SummerFit and WinterFit can be mixed. Otherwise, the spraying nozzles could become blocked. Comply with the important safety notes for service products when handling washer fluid (Y page 469). At temperatures above freezing: X Fill the washer fluid reservoir with a mixture
of water and washer fluid, e.g. MB Sum- merFit.
Mix 1 part MB SummerFit to 100 parts water.

Trailer loads ! Use a drawbar noseweight as close as possible to the maximum permissible noseweight.
Do not use a noseweight of less than 50kg, otherwise the trailer may come loose. Note that the payload and the rear axle load are reduced by the actual payload.
