i heard a few weeks ago that someone had their car stolen, and the owners had left their mobile phone in the car. They contacted the phone company, who in turn traced the phone, which in turn led the cops to the car.

its doesnt matter what you do to ur car....if someone wants it, they will take it...my bro parked his car at uni one day (Mt Gravatt campus) and the towed it away and found it a couple of days later striped and burnt. and plus, when someone acts sus around a car...most people dont give a shit because its not there car and they just mind their own business. when ever i see someone actin sus around a car i always hang around or make sure they notice im lookin at them.

QUOTE (DSTRYR @ Sep 17 2004, 09:42 AM)
all these ideas are good until the thief just tows it away or puts it on a flatbed.

Exactly. Dont let your car be another victem of theifs. I had a top of the line alarm: shock sensors, door/bonnet/boot sensors, 3x immobilisers, a switch i had to hold down while turning ignition on etc etc. The car was locked in my garage, i sleep just above it. All they had to do was brake the lock on the garage, use a glass cutter on the window, put the car in neutral, take handbrake off, put a trolley jack underneath the crossmember and roll it down the street onto a tow truck.

Here is the lesson i learnt. GET QUIKTRAK!

Heres some good things that quiktrak do:

* Tilt sensors - if the car is moved the tilt sensors will go off
* 3 immobilisers - 2 controlled by the key fob, one remotely engaged by quiktrak staff once police are in pursuit of your car
* Panic button - if someone car jacks you, dont act tough and try and run, you might end up with a bullet in your brain. A car isnt worth that. If you hit the panic button immediatly quiktrak will know you're in trouble and send the cops to chase your car

I seriously think you qlders will get hit by a wave of car crime soon, as sydney is becoming very security conscious. It will be easier for the crooks just to drive to qld and jack some easy cars rather than run the risk in sydney.

Have a look at your policy and check your excess, mine was $2500 on the 200sx. I could have easily paid for Quiktrak out of that money and maybe still have my car today.

or even put a magnet switch under the dash...

fuckin user posted image

if you had one of those magnetic circuits it would be a total pain in the ass to find and bypass.

another option is to have a spring loaded knife in the back of the drivers seat, if the car isnt started in just the right way it trips the wire and the knife goes through the seat.

or carry a spare fake negative battery terminal cable with you at all times, when you get out of the car, take off the real one and tuck it away somewhere and put on the fake one so it appears the battery is untouched. it probably wouldnt work but meh, thats my idea

i like that quicktrack idea GaryD. im probably gonna invest in a gps system for my car at somestage. theyre good because if you decide to sell your car they can be removed and put in another car. which is good because i always thought they wernt removable smile.gif

Immobilisers all come off the same spot. A couple of hidden kill switches can do quite well.

Back in South Africa Gear locks worked really well and you had to have them for Insurance. Was like steering lock but around the gear stick of a manual car. In our BMW all you could see was a keyhole to lock it. Our VW had the more simple click around jobbie.

But if you have the time you can even get around that i guess.

Or deaasemble your engine everytime - plugs, airflow meter plugs etc. etc. - pain in the ass - lol. OK for dodgey areas

look it doesnt matter what shit you got done to protect the car if they want to steal it they will. Great talking about all this shit now but it is to late when the car has gone.

Wheel clamps laugh.gif Just hope they don't do a homer and drive with em on ehehehhe

Another option is to modify your shifter so that the shaft unscrews in tow peices and just leave it in gear, with the bottom half to low to see without removing the plastics/center consol.........maybe not

QUOTE (DreamensioN @ Sep 17 2004, 10:39 AM)
One idea I had was if....say you have an aftermarket engine management system and you had the ability to hook up a laptop to it - how hard would it be to make a program that would dump out all the maps to the laptop so the ECU wouldn't be able to start the car. It sounds good in theory, but in practise it would be a hassle.

Pros:
No ECU maps
Unable to start car or wouldn't be able to drive it away if you could

Cons:
Have to carry a laptop around with you
If the laptop dies or gets stolen while out of the car - bye bye ignition/fuel maps

The other option is to take the ECU with you when you leave the car. But again...if you loose this or damage it while its out - it's a lot of hassle.

If a pro wants your car - they will get it. Even if you had everything concieveable done to your car to prevent it from getting stolen - what's stopping someone turning up in a tow truck and towing it away. How many times have you seen a tow truck pick up a car in a carpark or parked on the side of the road and never questioned them? IMHO - that would be the "easiest" way to get a car.

The Wolf 3D V4 computer I had in my S15 has this fuction. Has a pin number on the hand controller. So b4 you could start the car you need to type in the pin number. Take the hand controller with you when you leave it somewhere and roberts ya mothers brother - u cant start it. Even if they try screwing with the ignition etc - there will be no spark, no fuel no anything. Only thing they can then do is tow it.

Silvia Extreme - with the GPS thingy - I know in Sydney, when a car is stolen they head straight to Wollongong. As there is no mobile phone coverage and hence tracking coverage on the way it basically vanishes until it gets there. By then its usually in thhe back of a covered truck where the signal wont work either.

can you get Quicktrac in QLD???

GaryD
Post #52

The signal will still work in a truck usually. i suggest reading the faq. somewhere on their site it dispells the rumours people have made up about quiktrak but i cant remember where it is

http://www.quiktrak.com.au/faq/

If they get to woollongong then the cops are busy eating dounts. Taking your ecu out does nothing if they tow it. Stop being naieve and thinking it wont happen to you. Organised crime is heading more and more north, mark my words.

Yes quiktrak covers brisbane/gold coast see here:

http://www.quiktrak.com.au/coverage/brisbane.htm

if you are seriously interested talk to chris at http://www.soundoff.net.au he is the main qld installer and does a great job. Expect to pay a bit under $2000

i just take a few selected fuses out of my engine bay and put em in my pocket
yeah they could break in and steal some shit
but the car wont start and which one of my fuses is fucked?
again another stalling atempt but hey anything that slows the fucks down is worth it

QUOTE (_Insane089_ @ Sep 17 2004, 10:54 AM)
do you guys know you can get finger print starter thingys? i dont know the full details on it but if it aint your fingerprint then the car wont start, someone should look into it, i saw one for sale on ebay for a couple hundred dollors

(sorry for the crap discription but i just woke up)

I know jaycar had them on sale a while ago. Works for me but only problem is they are all switches this the battery cut out. You can get past it but then again your right it does slow them down then hopefully the alarm gets some attention

i like people who put their sirens under the bonnet, wtf. id put the loudest one i can in the cabin. u cant stand that type of noise for too long that is for sure. but if they want it they will take it...

I've heard you just find something that'll have power at it, e.g indicator. and earth it to the chassis, apparently its enough to fry an alarm system.

VS Style
Post #57

i like the idea of the alarm being hooked up to the breaks... and clamped so that they only release when the alarm deactivated.

if you have nice rims... and don't want them to be taken, the best way to do it is have 6 sets of lock nuts...... and throw a random nut on 3 wheels, then get another one from the 6th set which doesnt match the other ones and throw it on another wheel... so that way you have 5 different nuts on 3 wheels and on another wheel have a nut that isnt the same as the others. By that time the person would have given up... hopefully (as much as it would be a pain in the arse getting them off legit, at least you wont have your wheels flogged)

I know it sounds costly... but lets face it if your rims cost $2000 or somethin your going to throw $150 or something into making it near impossible to get a single wheel off.

Also what about the new holdens that you can phone in the car and immobilise it while its moving...like the ad tongue.gif i know some cars have it.

Or there is always the approach of not having locks on the doors.... instead file of the lock mechanism and have hydraulics/ mechanical device that opens the door without touching a handle or anything.... but it would be pricey... but at least your car safe

ALSO the more money you put into securing the car the better off you are, custom security systems are prob the best way to go because that way no theif could memorise how to get in etc.

JUST HOOK your alarms up to a HUGE airhorn, i guarrentee you people will notice your car getting broken into laugh.gif

Yeah, I know a guy who got busted by that. Mate of mine, tried to flog some VT from a shopping mall, was driving off, the car turned off, windows went up, doors locked and cops came from everywhere. One hell of a setup, not sure if it was even legal.

Personally, I have an alarm/imob and steering wheel lock. Not anything special, but it's enough to deter the average thief. Then again I don't even like my car, doubt if someone else would dry.gif

Just hire your own personal security guard to stand watch over your car at all times when you are not in the vicinity of it. biggrin.gif
Or do a britney spears and hire some big f*ck of body guard to do the same thing.

But serioiusly as others have said unfortunately if people want something bad enough they will get it. Just have to try and deter people from wanting to steal it...in reality that won't happen sad.gif

Put various sirens the lodest you can get through out the car inside & outside.
I think theres some systems were if the wire is cut the siren will still go for a long time.
As well as crazy strobes behind airvents so if some1 trys to drive it they can't see proply, also don't leave wallets or mobile phones were people can see them. thumbsup.gif

Or you could buy a crazy dog and leave it in your car. ohmy.gif

Yeah he's right you can get past imobilisers but it could take 10-20mins, when that guy whos broken in to your car had just ran away cause it's not worth his troble, he could just get a screew driver and start a car beside you without a imobiliser.
They are a awsome idea to have, I have a after market 2 point imobiliser, and a factory imobiliser, if you don't have a offical key for my car it wont start, and also all black wire is comign good to have.
Invest in a imobiliser is you still whanta see your car when you come home from work. thumbsup.gif
