CA18DE(T) to CA18DET Engine Replacement

[ Home ]

Why replace the engine rather than fixing the head gasket you may ask? Because I had other problems to worry about as well.. my injectors were half fucked, air con compressor was screwed, plus it was actually a CA18DE engine with a Turbo bolted on (and computer management changed).. so it may have very well been time for my engine to blow (about 18 months after turbo conversion), but I stick with my guns with the idea that the head warped because the engine was hot and I was forced through about 6-12 inches of water from a huge storm downpoor.. But anyway.. here's some photo's of the engine coming out etc..

To get the engine out of the car, it took about 2-3 hours. Then it took a bit of a day to install new rear main seal, turbo gaskets, and a bit of other fiddling around, like changing belts, heater hoses, etc... then the best part of a day to get the new engine in... it started first time too! :-)

Bonnet is off!

New engine and the crane:

Engines out!

Here's both engines, nothing in the car :~(

Here's a pic of the old engine..

This is probably the best shot of where I had water pooring out between the head and block.. you'd only have to crank the engine over for it to start leaking.. it was quite bad..

mm.. airbox and fan and other crap on the ground, including old turbo.
