Vehicle security system activation The vehicle security system will give the following alarm: c The headlights blink and the horn sounds

intermittently.

c The alarm automatically turns off after ap- proximately 50 seconds. However, the alarm reactivates if the vehicle is tampered with again. The alarm can be shut off by unlocking the driver(cid:146)s door or trunk lid with the key, or by pressing the button on the Intelli- gent Key.

The alarm is activated by: c opening the door or trunk lid without using the key or Intelligent Key (even if the door is unlocked by releasing the door inside lock switch).

How to stop an activated alarm The alarm stops only by unlocking the driver(cid:146)s door or the trunk lid with the key, pressing the button on the Intelligent Key, or press- ing the request switch on the driver(cid:146)s or passen- ger(cid:146)s door with the Intelligent Key in range of the door handle. NISSAN VEHICLE IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM The NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System will not allow the engine to start without the use of a registered key. If the engine fails to start using a registered key (for example, when interference is caused by another registered key, an automated toll road device or automatic payment device on the key ring), restart the engine using the following procedures: 1. Leave the ignition switch placed in the ON

position for approximately 5 seconds.

2. Place the ignition switch in the OFF or LOCK position and wait approximately 10
seconds.

3. Repeat steps 1 and 2. 4. Restart the engine while holding the device (which may have caused the interference) separate from the registered key.

If the no start condition re-occurs, NISSAN rec- ommends placing the registered key on a sepa- rate key ring to avoid interference from other devices. Security indicator light The security indicator light blinks whenever the ignition switch is placed in the OFF, LOCK or ACC position. This function indicates the NISSAN Ve- hicle Immobilizer System is operational. If the NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System is mal- functioning, the light will remain on while the ignition switch is placed in the ON position. If the light still remains on and/or the en- gine will not start, see a NISSAN dealer for NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System ser- vice as soon as possible. Please bring all registered keys that you have when visiting your NISSAN dealer for service.

SWITCH OPERATION The windshield wiper and washer operates when the ignition switch is in the ON position.

Push the lever down to operate the wiper at the following speed: s1

Intermittent (cid:151) intermittent operation can be adjusted by turning the knob toward sA (Slower) or sB (Faster). Also, the intermit- tent operation speed varies in accordance with the vehicle speed. (For example, when the vehicle speed is high, the intermittent operation speed will be faster.)

NOTE: You can turn on or turn off the driving speed dependent intermittent wiper func- tion for vehicles with navigation system. Refer to (cid:147)Comfort settings(cid:148) in the (cid:147)Monitor, climate, audio, phone and voice recogni- tion systems(cid:148) section. s2
Low (cid:151) continuous low speed operation s3 High (cid:151) continuous high speed operation Push the lever up s4 to have one sweep opera- tion of the wiper. Pull the lever toward you s5
to operate the washer. The wiper will also operate several times.

WARNING

In freezing temperatures the washer solu- tion may freeze on the windshield and obscure your vision which may lead to an accident. Warm the windshield with the defroster before you wash the windshield.

CAUTION

c Do not operate the washer continu-

ously for more than 30 seconds.

c Do not operate the washer if the reser-

voir tank is empty.

c Do not fill the window washer reservoir tank with washer fluid concentrates at full strength. Some methyl alcohol based washer fluid concentrates may permanently stain the grille if spilled while filling the window washer reser- voir tank.

c Pre-mix washer fluid concentrates with water to the manufacturer(cid:146)s recom- mended levels before pouring the fluid into the window washer reservoir tank. Do not use the window washer reservoir tank to mix the washer fluid concen- trate and water.

REAR WINDOW AND OUTSIDE MIRROR (if so equipped) DEFROSTER SWITCH

Type A

To defrost the rear window glass and outside mirrors (if so equipped), start the engine and push the rear window defroster switch on. The rear window defroster light on the switch comes on. Push the switch again to turn the defroster off.

The rear window defroster automatically turns off after approximately 15 minutes.

CAUTION

When cleaning the inner side of the rear window, be careful not to scratch or dam- age the rear window defroster.

c The life of xenon headlights will be shortened by frequent on-off opera- tion. It is generally desirable not to turn off the headlights for short intervals (for example, when the vehicle stops at a traffic signal).

c If the xenon headlight bulb is close to burning out, the brightness will drasti- cally decrease, the light will start blink- ing, or the color of the light will be- come reddish. If one or more of the above signs appear, contact a NISSAN dealer.

HEADLIGHT AND TURN SIGNAL SWITCH

XENON HEADLIGHTS (if so equipped)

cHIGH VOLTAGE

c When xenon headlights are on, they produce a high voltage. To prevent an electric shock, never attempt to modify or disassemble. Always have your xe- non headlights replaced at a NISSAN dealer.

c Xenon headlights provide considerably more light than conventional head- lights. If they are not correctly aimed, they might temporarily blind an oncom- ing driver or the driver ahead of you and cause a serious accident. If headlights are not aimed correctly, immediately take your vehicle to a NISSAN dealer and have the headlights adjusted correctly.

When the xenon headlight is initially turned on, its brightness or color varies slightly. However, the color and brightness will soon stabilize.

To turn on the autolight system: 1. Place the headlight switch in the AUTO po-

sition s1 .

2. Place ignition in the ON position. 3. The autolight system automatically turns the

headlights on and off.

Initially, if the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position and a door is opened and left open, the headlights remain ON for 5 minutes. If another door is opened during the 5 minutes, then the 5
minute timer is reset. To turn the autolight system off, turn the switch to the OFF,

Be sure you do not put anything on top of the autolight sensor located on the top side of the instrument panel. The autolight sen- sor controls the autolight; if it is covered, the autolight sensor reacts as if it is dark out and the headlights will illuminate. If this occurs while parked with the engine off and the ignition switch placed in the ON position, your vehicle(cid:146)s battery could be- come discharged.

Autolight system The autolight system allows the headlights to be set so they turn on and off automatically. The autolight system can: c Turn on the headlights, front parking, tail, license plate and instrument panel lights au- tomatically when it is dark.

c Turn off all the lights when it is light. c Keep all the lights on for 45 seconds after you place the ignition switch in the OFF position and all doors are closed.

CAUTION

WARNING

Even though the battery saver feature au- tomatically turns off the headlights after a period of time, you should turn the head- light switch to the OFF position when the engine is not running to avoid discharging the vehicle battery.

DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT SYSTEM (Canada only) The headlights automatically illuminate at a re- duced intensity when the engine is started with the parking brake released. The daytime running lights operate with the headlight switch in the OFF position or in the position. Turn the headlight switch to the position for full illumination when driving at night.

If the parking brake is applied before the engine is started, the daytime running lights do not illumi- nate. The daytime running lights illuminate when the parking brake is released. The daytime run- ning lights will remain on until the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position.

Do not disassemble the horn. Doing so could affect proper operation of the supplemental front air bag system. Tam- pering with the supplemental front air bag system may result in serious personal injury.

c The climate controlled seat has an air filter. Do not operate the climate con- trolled seat without an air filter. This may result in damage to the system.

c When cleaning the seat, never use gasoline, benzine, thinner, or any simi- lar materials.

c If any malfunctions are found or the climate controlled seat does not oper- ate, turn the switch off and have the system checked by your NISSAN dealer.

CLIMATE CONTROL SEAT SWITCH (if so equipped)

The climate controlled seat warms up or cools down the front seat by blowing warm or cool air from the surface of the seat. The climate control switch is located on the center console.

The climate controlled seat can be operated as follows:

1. Start the engine.

2. Turn the control knob to the H (Heat) side or to the C (Cool) side, as desired. The indica- tor light on the control knob will illuminate.

3. Adjust the desired amount of air using the control knob. The climate controlled seat blower remains on low speed for approxi-

mately 60 seconds after turning the switch on or selecting the desired temperature.

4. When the vehicle(cid:146)s interior is warmed or cooled, or before you leave the vehicle, be sure to turn the control knob to the Off (center) position

To check the air filter for the climate controlled seat, contact a NISSAN dealer.

CAUTION

c The battery could run down if the cli- mate control seat is operated while the engine is not running.

c Do not use the climate control seat for extended periods or when no one is using the seat.

c Do not put anything on the seat which insulates heat, such as a blanket, cush- ion, seat cover, etc. Otherwise, the seat may become overheated.

c Do not place anything hard or heavy on the seat or pierce it with a pin or similar objects. This may result in damage to the climate controlled seat.

c Any liquid spilled on the seat should be

removed immediately with a dry cloth

c The battery could run down if the seat heater is operated while the engine is not running.

The front seats are warmed by built-in heaters. The switch is located on the center console. 1. Start the engine. 2. Push the LO or HI position of the switch, as desired. The indicator light in the switch will illuminate. The heater is controlled by a thermostat, automatically turning the heater on and off. The indicator light will remain on as long as the switch is on.

3. When the seat is warmed or before you leave the vehicle, be sure to turn the switch off.

The heated steering wheel system is designed to operate only when the surface temperature of the steering wheel is below 68(cid:176)F (20(cid:176)C).

Push the heated steering wheel switch to warm the steering wheel after the engine starts. The indicator light will come on.

If the surface temperature of the steering wheel is below 68(cid:176)F (20(cid:176)C), the system will heat the steering wheel and cycle off and on to maintain a temperature above 68(cid:176)F (20(cid:176)C). The indicator light will remain on as long as the system is on. Push the switch again to turn the heated steering wheel system off manually. The indicator light will go off.

VEHICLE DYNAMIC CONTROL (VDC) OFF SWITCH

NOTE: If the surface temperature of the steering wheel is above 68(cid:176)F (20(cid:176)C) when the switch is turned on, the system will not heat the steering wheel. This is not a malfunction.

The vehicle should be driven with the Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) system on for most driv- ing conditions. If the vehicle is stuck in mud or snow, the VDC system reduces the engine output to reduce wheel spin. The engine speed will be reduced even if the accelerator is depressed to the floor. If maximum engine power is needed to free a stuck vehicle, turn the VDC system off. To turn off the VDC system, push the VDC OFF switch. The Push the VDC OFF switch again or restart the engine to turn on the system. See (cid:147)Vehicle Dy- namic Control (VDC) system(cid:148) in the (cid:147)Starting and driving(cid:148) section.

Front center console

The power outlets are for powering electrical accessories such as cellular telephones. They are rated at 12 Volt, 120 W (10A) maximum. The power outlet in the front console box is powered directly by the vehicle battery. The out- let on the center console near the shift selector is powered only when the ignition switch is in the ACC or ON position.

c Avoid using power outlets when the air conditioner, headlights or rear window defroster is on.

c Before inserting or disconnecting a plug, be sure the electrical accessory being used is turned OFF.

c Push the plug in as far as it will go. If good contact is not made, the plug may overheat or the internal temperature fuse may open.

c When not in use, be sure to close the cap. Do not allow water to contact the outlet.

c Avoid abrupt starting and braking when the cup holder is being used to prevent spilling the drink. If the liquid is hot, it can scald you or your passenger.

c Use only soft cups in the cup holder. Hard objects can injure you in an accident.

To open the front cup holders, push the cup holder lid. To close, lower the cup holder lid and push down until it clicks in place.

The rear cup holders are located in the fold-down armrest in the rear seat back.

CONSOLE BOX Upper half Pull up on the driver(cid:146)s side latch to open the upper half of the console box. The upper half of the console box may be used for storage of cellular phones. An access hole is provided at the front of the upper half of the console box for a phone or iPodT cord routing to the power outlet.

Lower half Pull up on the lever to open the lower half of the console box. A power outlet is located inside the console box and there is storage for compact discs.

GROCERY HOOKS The grocery hooks are located in the trunk and can be used to hang a standard size plastic grocery bag.

CAUTION

Do not apply a total load of more than 20
lbs (9 kg) to a single grocery hook.

The cargo net helps keep packages in the cargo area from moving around while the vehicle is in motion.

c Properly secure all cargo with ropes or straps to help prevent it from sliding or shifting. In a sudden stop or collision, unsecured cargo could cause personal injury.

c Be sure to secure all four hooks into the retainers. The cargo restrained in the net must not exceed 30 lbs. (13.6 kg) or the net may not stay secured.

c Make sure that all passengers have their hands, etc. inside the vehicle while it is in motion and before closing the windows. Use the window lock switch to prevent unexpected use of the power windows.

c Do not leave children unattended inside the vehicle. They could unknowingly ac- tivate switches or controls and become trapped in a window. Unattended chil- dren could become involved in serious accidents.

The power windows operate when the ignition switch is placed in the ON position, or for about 45 seconds after the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position. If the driver(cid:146)s or passenger(cid:146)s door is opened during this period of about 45
seconds, power to the windows is canceled.

Driver(cid:146)s side power window switch The driver(cid:146)s side control panel is equipped with switches to open or close all of the windows. To open a window, push the switch to the first detent and continue to hold down until the de- sired window position is reached. To close a window, pull the switch to the first detent and continue to hold up until the desired window position is reached.

Front passenger(cid:146)s power window switch The passenger(cid:146)s window switch operates only the corresponding passenger(cid:146)s window. To open the window, push the switch to the first detent and continue to hold it down until the desired position is reached s1 . To close the window, pull the switch to the first detent and continue to hold up until the desired window position is reached s2 .

Rear power window switch The rear power window switches open or close only the corresponding windows. To open the window, push the switch to the first detent and continue to hold it down until the desired window position is reached s1 . To close the window, pull the switch to the first detent and continue to hold up until the desired window position is reached s2 . Locking passengers(cid:146) windows When the window lock button is depressed, only the driver(cid:146)s side window can be opened or closed. Push it again to cancel the window lock function.

Automatic operation To fully open a window equipped with automatic operation, press the window switch down (only driver(cid:146)s side shown) to the second detent and release it; it need not be held. The window auto- matically opens all the way. To stop the window, lift the switch up while the window is opening.

To fully close a window equipped with automatic operation, pull the switch up to the second detent and release it; it need not be held. To stop the window, press the switch down while the window is closing.

Auto-reverse function The auto-reverse function can be activated when a window is closed by automatic operation. Depending on the environment or driving conditions, the auto-reverse function may be activated if an impact or load similar to something being caught in the window oc- curs.

WARNING

There are some small distances immedi- ately before the closed position which cannot be detected. Make sure that all passengers have their hands, etc., inside the vehicle before closing the window.

If the vehicle(cid:146)s battery is disconnected, replaced, or jump started, the power window auto-reverse function may not operate properly. If this occurs, please contact to re-initialize the power window auto-reverse system.

If the control unit detects something caught in a window equipped with automatic operation as it is closing, the window will be immediately low- ered.

If the windows do not close automatically If the power window automatic function (closing only) does not operate properly, perform the fol- lowing procedure to initialize the power window system. 1. Place the ignition switch in the ON position. 2. Close the door. 3. Open the window more than halfway by

operating the power window switch.

4. Pull the power window switch and hold it to close the window, and then hold the switch for more than 3 seconds after the window is closed completely.

5. Release the power window switch. Operate the window by automatic function to confirm the initialization is complete.

6. Perform steps 2 through 5 above for other

windows.

If the power window automatic function does not operate properly after performing the above pro- cedure, have your vehicle checked by a NISSAN dealer.

MOONROOF (if so equipped)

AUTOMATIC MOONROOF The moonroof will only operate when the ignition switch is placed in the ON position. The auto- matic moonroof is operational for about 45 sec- onds, even if the ignition switch is placed in the ACC or OFF position. If the driver(cid:146)s door or the front passenger(cid:146)s door is opened during this period of about 45 seconds, power to the moon- roof is canceled. Sliding the moonroof To fully open the moonroof, push the switch toward

To fully close the moonroof, push the switch toward

To open or close the moonroof part way, push the switch in any direction while the moonroof is sliding to stop it in the desired position. Tilting the moonroof Close the moonroof by pushing the switch s2 . Release the switch, then push toward s2 again to tilt the the switch toward moonroof up.

WARNING

c In an accident you could be thrown from the vehicle through an open moonroof. Always use seat belts and child restraints.

c Do not allow anyone to stand up or extend any portion of their body out of the moonroof opening while the vehicle is in motion or while the moonroof is closing.

CAUTION

c Remove water drops, snow, ice or sand

from the moonroof before opening.

c Do not place heavy objects on the

moonroof or surrounding area.

Auto-reverse function (when closing or tilting down the moonroof) The auto-reverse function can be activated when the moonroof is closed or tilted down by auto- matic operation when the ignition switch is placed in the ON position or for about 45 sec- onds after the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position. Depending on the environment or driving conditions, the auto-reverse function may be activated if an impact or load similar to something being caught in the moonroof occurs.

WARNING

There are some small distances immedi- ately before the closed position which cannot be detected. Make sure that all passengers have their hands, etc., inside the vehicle before closing the moonroof.

When closing: If the control unit detects something caught in the moonroof as it moves to the front, the moonroof will immediately open backward. When tilting down: If the control unit detects something caught in the moonroof as it tilts down, the moonroof will im- mediately tilt up. If the auto-reverse function malfunctions and re- peats opening or tilting up the moonroof, keep pushing the tilt down switch within 5 seconds after it happens; the moonroof will fully close gradually. Make sure nothing is caught in the moonroof. Sunshade Open and close the sunshade by sliding it for- ward or backward. If the moonroof does not close Have your NISSAN dealer check and repair the moonroof.

AUTOMATIC MOONROOF The moonroof will only operate when the ignition switch is in the ON position. The automatic moonroof is operational for about 45 seconds, even if the ignition switch is placed in the ACC or OFF position. If the driver(cid:146)s door or the front passenger(cid:146)s door is opened during this period of about 45 seconds, power to the moonroof is canceled.

Sliding the moonroof To slide the moonroof: c To fully open the moonroof, push the switch s1 toward the open position until it reaches the second detent. is pushed to the first detent, only the sunshade will open.

Tilting the moonroof To tilt the moonroof: c To tilt the moonroof up, push and release the tilt switch s3 . When the moonroof is open, it will automatically close and then tilt up.

c To tilt the moonroof down, push and release the tilt switch s3 or push the switch s2
toward the close position until it reaches the first detent.

c To tilt the moonroof down and close the sunshade at the same time, push the switch s2 to the close position until it reaches the second detent.

Auto-reverse function (when closing or tilting down the moonroof) The auto-reverse function can be activated when the moonroof is closed or tilted down by auto- matic operation when the ignition switch is placed in the ON position or for about 45 sec- onds after the ignition switch is placed in the OFF position. Depending on the environment or driving conditions, the auto-reverse function may be activated if an impact or load similar to something being caught in the moonroof occurs.

WARNING

There are some small distances immedi- ately before the closed position which cannot be detected. Make sure that all passengers have their hands, etc., inside the vehicle before closing the moonroof.

CAUTION

c Remove water drops, snow, ice or sand

from the moonroof before opening.

c Do not place heavy objects on the

moonroof or surrounding area.

When closing:

If the control unit detects something caught in the moonroof as it moves to the front, the moonroof will immediately open backward. When tilting down:

If the control unit detects something caught in the moonroof as it tilts down, the moonroof will im- mediately tilt up.

If the auto-reverse function malfunctions and re- peats opening or tilting up the moonroof, keep pushing the tilt down switch within 5 seconds after it happens; the moonroof will fully close gradually. Make sure nothing is caught in the moonroof.

WARNING

c In an accident you could be thrown from the vehicle through an open moonroof. Always use seat belts and child restraints.

c Do not allow anyone to stand up or extend any portion of their body out of the moonroof opening while the vehicle is in motion or while the moonroof is closing.

c Do not push the sun shade arm with your hands, etc., as this may deform it. Improper operation or damage to the screen may result.

c Do not hang any object on the arm rail as this may result in improper operation or damage the screen.

c Do not forcefully pull the screen. Doing so may elongate the screen. Improper operation or damage to the screen may result.

c To avoid personal

injury, keep your hands, fingers and head away from the sun shade arm, arm rail and screen inlet port.

c Do not allow children near the rear sun

shade system. They could be injured.

c Do not pull or push the rear sun shade. This could cause improper operation or damage it.

INTERIOR LIGHT

The interior light has a three-position switch and operates regardless of ignition switch position. c When the switch is in the ON position s1 , the front and rear personal lights will illumi- nate, regardless of door position. The light will go off after 30 minutes unless the igni- tion switch is placed in the ON position.

c When the switch is in the center DOOR position s2 , the front and rear personal lights will illuminate under the following con- ditions:

(cid:150) Driver(cid:146)s door is unlocked while the igni- tion switch is placed in the OFF position.

Lights remain on for a maximum of 30

CAUTION

Do not use for extended periods of time with the engine stopped. This could result in a discharged battery.

NOTE: The footwell and doorstep lights illuminate when the driver and passenger doors are opened regardless of the interior light switch position. These lights will turn off automatically after 30 minutes while doors are open to prevent the battery from be- coming discharged.

CAUTION

Do not use for extended periods of time with the engine stopped. This could result in a discharged battery.

TRUNK LIGHT

The light illuminates when the trunk lid is opened. When the trunk lid is closed, the light goes off. The light will go off after about 30 minutes if the trunk lid is left open, unless the ignition switch is in the ON position. For bulb replacement procedures, refer to (cid:147)Exte- rior and interior lights(cid:148) in the (cid:147)Maintenance and do-it-yourself(cid:148) section of this manual.

HOMELINKT UNIVERSAL TRANSCEIVER (if so equipped)

The HomeLinkT Universal Transceiver provides a convenient way to consolidate the functions of up to three individual hand-held transmitters into one built-in device. HomeLinkT Universal Transceiver: c Will operate most Radio Frequency (RF) devices such as garage doors, gates, home and office lighting, entry door locks and se- curity systems.

c Is powered by your vehicle(cid:146)s battery. No separate batteries are required. If the vehi- cle(cid:146)s battery is discharged or is discon- nected, HomeLinkT will retain all program- ming.

Once the HomeLinkT Universal Transceiver is programmed, retain the original trans- mitter for future programming procedures (Example: new vehicle purchases). Upon sale of the programmed HomeLinkT Universal Transceiver buttons should be erased for security purposes. For additional information, refer to (cid:147)Program- ming HomeLinkT(cid:148) later in this section.

c Do not use the HomeLinkT Universal Transceiver with any garage door opener that lacks safety stop and re- verse features as required by federal safety standards. (These standards be- came effective for opener models manufactured after April 1, 1982). PROGRAMMING HOMELINKT 1. To begin, press and hold the two outer HomeLinkT buttons (to clear the memory) until the indicator light s1 blinks (after 20
seconds). Release both buttons.

2. Position the end of the hand-held transmitter 1 - 3 inches (26 - 76 mm) away from the HomeLinkT surface.

This could take up to 90 seconds. When the indicator light flashes rapidly, both buttons may be released. The rapidly flash- ing light indicates successful programming. grammed device, press and hold the pro- grammed HomeLinkT button (cid:151) releasing when the device begins to activate. If the indicator light on the HomeLinkT blinks rapidly for 2 seconds and then turns solid, HomeLinkT has picked up a (cid:147)rolling code(cid:148) garage door opener signal. You will need to proceed with the next steps to train the HomeLinkT to complete the programming which may require a ladder and another per- son for convenience.

6. Press and release the (cid:147)smart(cid:148) or (cid:147)learn(cid:148) pro- gram button located on the garage door opener(cid:146)s motor to activate the (cid:147)training mode(cid:148). This button is usually located near the antenna wire that hangs down from the motor. If the wire originates from under a light lens, you will need to remove the lens to access the program button.

NOTE: Once you have pressed and released the program button on the garage door open- er(cid:146)s motor and the (cid:147)training light(cid:148) is lit, you have 30 seconds in which to perform step 7. Use the help of a second person for conve- nience to assist when performing this step.

7. Within 30 seconds of pressing and releas- ing the garage door opener(cid:146)s program but- ton, quickly and firmly press and release the HomeLinkT button you(cid:146)ve just programmed. Press and release the HomeLinkT button up to 3 times to complete the training.

8. Your HomeLinkT button should now be pro- grammed. (To program the remaining HomeLinkT buttons for additional door or gate openers, follow steps 2-4 only.)

Two Intelligent Keys

3. NISSAN INTELLIGENT KEY(cid:153) Your vehicle can only be driven with the Intelligent Keys which are registered to your vehicle(cid:146)s Intel- ligent Key system components and NISSAN Ve- hicle Immobilizer System components.

Never leave these keys in the vehicle. As many as 4 Intelligent Keys can be registered and used with one vehicle. The new keys must be registered by a NISSAN dealer prior to use with the Intelligent Key system and NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System of your vehicle. Since the registration process requires erasing all memory in the Intelligent Key components when register- ing new keys, be sure to take all Intelligent Keys that you have to the NISSAN dealer. A key number plate is supplied with your keys. Record the key number and keep it in a safe place (such as your wallet), not in the vehicle. If you lose your keys, see a NISSAN dealer for duplicates by using the key number. NISSAN does not record key numbers so it is very important to keep track of your key number plate. A key number is only necessary when you have lost all keys and do not have one to duplicate from. If you still have a key, your NISSAN dealer can duplicate it.

CAUTION

Listed below are conditions or occur- rences which will damage the Intelligent Key: c Do not allow the Intelligent Key, which contains electrical components, to come into contact with water or salt water. This could affect the system function.

c Do not drop the Intelligent Key. c Do not strike the Intelligent Key sharply

against another object.

c Do not change or modify the Intelligent

Key.

c Wetting may damage the Intelligent Key. If the Intelligent Key gets wet, im- mediately wipe until it is completely dry. c Do not place the Intelligent Key for an extended period in an area where tem- peratures exceed 140(cid:176)F (60(cid:176)C).

c Do not attach the Intelligent Key with a

key holder that contains a magnet.

c Do not place the Intelligent Key near equipment that produces a magnetic field, such as a TV, audio equipment and personal computers.

CAUTION

Always carry the mechanical key installed in the Intelligent Key slot.

Valet hand-off When you have to leave a key with a valet, give them the Intelligent Key itself and keep the me- chanical key with you to protect your belongings. To prevent the glove box and the trunk from being opened during valet hand-off, follow the proce- dures below. 1. Push the trunk cancel switch to the OFF

position.

2. Remove the mechanical key from the Intelli-

gent Key.

3. Lock the glove box and the trunk pass-

through with the mechanical key.

4. Hand the Intelligent Key to the valet and

keep the mechanical key with you.

NISSAN VEHICLE IMMOBILIZER SYSTEM KEYS You can only drive your vehicle using the master keys which are registered to the NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System components in your vehicle. These keys have a transponder chip in the key head.

The master key can be used for all the locks.

To protect belongings when you leave a key with someone, give them the Intelligent Key only, not the mechanical key. Never leave these keys in the vehicle.

Additional or replacement keys:

If you still have a key, the key number is not necessary when you need extra NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System keys. Your dealer can dupli- cate your existing key. As many as four NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System keys can be used with one vehicle. You should bring all NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System keys that you have to your NISSAN dealer for registration. This is be- cause the registration process will erase the memory of all key codes previously registered into the NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System. After the registration process, these components will only recognize keys coded into the NISSAN Vehicle Immobilizer System during registration. Pre-driving checks and adjustments 3-3

Mechanical key The Intelligent Key contains the mechanical key, which can be used in case of a discharged bat- tery.

To remove the mechanical key, release the lock knob on the back of the Intelligent Key.

To install the mechanical key, firmly insert it into the Intelligent Key until the lock knob returns to the lock position.

The mechanical key can be used for operation in the same way as an ordinary key.

Any key that is not given to your dealer at the time of registration will no longer be able to start your vehicle. Do not allow the immobilizer system key, which contains an electrical transponder, to come into contact with salt water. This could affect system function.

DOORS

When the doors are locked using one of the following methods, the doors can not be opened using the inside or outside door handles. The doors must be unlocked to open the doors.

WARNING

c Always have the doors locked while driving. Along with the use of seat belts, this provides greater safety in the event of an accident by helping to prevent persons from being thrown from the vehicle. This also helps keep children and others from unintentionally open- ing the doors, and will help keep out intruders.

c Before opening any door, always look

for and avoid oncoming traffic.

c Do not leave children unattended inside the vehicle. They could unknowingly ac- tivate switches or controls. Unattended children could become involved in seri- ous accidents.

LOCKING WITH KEY The power door lock system allows you to lock or unlock all doors at the same time. Turning the key toward the front s1 of the vehicle locks all doors. Turning the key one time toward the rear s2 of the vehicle unlocks that door. From that position, returning the key to neutral s3 (where the key can only be removed and inserted) and turning it toward the rear again within 60 seconds unlocks all doors s4 .

Opening and closing windows The driver(cid:146)s door key operation allows you to open and close windows equipped with auto- matic operation at the same time. c To open the windows, turn the driver(cid:146)s door key toward the rear of the vehicle for longer than 1 second after the door is unlocked. c To close the windows, turn the driver(cid:146)s door key toward the front of the vehicle for longer than 1 second after the door is locked.

Windows stop when the key cylinder is released.

Inside lock

LOCKING WITH INSIDE LOCK KNOB To lock the door without the key, move the inside lock knob to the lock position s1 , then close the door. To unlock the door without the key, move the inside lock knob to the unlock position s2 .

c To change AUTO LOCK settings: push and hold the power door lock switch to the position (LOCK) for more than 5 seconds.

4. When activated, the hazard warning lights will flash twice. When deactivated, the haz- ard warning lights will flash once.

5. The ignition switch must be placed in the OFF and ON position again between each setting change.

Lockout protection When the power door lock switch (driver(cid:146)s or front passenger(cid:146)s side) is moved to the lock position with the Intelligent Key in the port and any door open, all doors will lock and unlock automatically. With the Intelligent Key left in the vehicle (not in the Intelligent Key port) and any door open, all doors will unlock automatically and a chime will sound after the door is closed. AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCKS c All doors lock automatically when the vehicle

speed reaches 15 MPH (24 km/h).

c All doors unlock automatically when the ig- nition switch is placed in the OFF position. The automatic lock and unlock functions can be deactivated or activated indepen- dently of each other. To deactivate or activate the automatic door lock or unlock system, per- form the following procedure: 1. Close all doors. 2. Place the ignition switch in the ON position.

CHILD SAFETY REAR DOOR LOCK Child safety locks help prevent the rear doors from being opened accidentally, especially when small children are in the vehicle. The child safety lock levers are located on the edge of the rear doors. When the lever is in the lock position, the door can be opened only from the outside.

c Radio waves could adversely affect electric medical equipment. Those who use a pacemaker should contact the electric medical equipment manufac- turer for the possible influences before use.

c The Intelligent Key transmits radio waves when the buttons are pushed. The FAA advises the radio waves may affect aircraft navigation and communi- cation systems. Do not operate the In- telligent Key while on an airplane. Make sure the buttons are not operated unin- tentionally when the unit is stored for a flight.

The Intelligent Key system can operate all the door locks using the remote controller function or pushing the request switch on the vehicle without taking the key out from a pocket or purse. The operating environment and/or conditions may af- fect the Intelligent Key system operation.

Be sure to read the following before using the Intelligent Key system.

c Be sure to carry the Intelligent Key with

you when operating the vehicle.

c Never leave the Intelligent Key in the

vehicle when you leave the vehicle.

The Intelligent Key is always communicating with the vehicle as it receives radio waves. The Intel- ligent Key system transmits weak radio waves. Environmental conditions may interfere with the operation of the Intelligent Key system under the following operating conditions. c When operating near a location where strong radio waves are transmitted, such as a TV tower, power station and broadcasting station.

c When in possession of wireless equipment, such as a cellular telephone, transceiver, and CB radio.

c When the Intelligent Key is in contact with or

covered by metallic materials.

c When any type of radio wave remote control

is used nearby.

c When the Intelligent Key is placed near an electric appliance such as a personal com- puter.

c When the vehicle is parked near a parking

meter.

In such cases, correct the operating conditions before using the Intelligent Key function or use the mechanical key. Although the life of the battery varies depending on the operating conditions, the battery(cid:146)s life is approximately 2 years. the battery is dis- charged, replace it with a new one. When the Intelligent Key battery is almost dis- charged, insert the Intelligent key into the Intelli- gent Key port to start the engine. Replace the discharged battery with a new one as soon as possible. For additional information, see (cid:147)Push Button Ignition Switch (cid:147) in the (cid:147)Starting and Driving(cid:148) section. Since the Intelligent Key is continuously receiving radio waves, if the key is left near equipment which transmits strong radio waves, such as sig- nals from a TV and personal computer, the bat- tery life may become shorter. For information regarding replacement of a bat- tery, see (cid:147)Battery replacement(cid:148) in the (cid:147)Mainte- nance and do-it-yourself(cid:148) section.

c Wetting may damage the Intelligent Key. If the Intelligent Key gets wet, im- mediately wipe until it is completely dry. c Do not place the Intelligent Key for an extended period in an area where tem- peratures exceed 140(cid:176)F (60(cid:176)C).

c Do not attach the Intelligent Key with a

key holder that contains a magnet.

c Do not place the Intelligent Key near equipment that produces a magnetic field, such as a TV, audio equipment and personal computers.

If an Intelligent Key is lost or stolen, NISSAN recommends erasing the ID code of that Intelli- gent Key from the vehicle. This may prevent the unauthorized use of the Intelligent Key to operate the vehicle. For information regarding the erasing procedure, contact a NISSAN dealer.

For models with a steering wheel lock mecha- nism: Because the steering wheel is locked elec- trically, unlocking the steering wheel with the ignition switch in the Lock position is impossible when the vehicle battery is completely dis- charged. Unlocking the steering wheel is impos- sible even if the Intelligent key is inserted into the Intelligent Key port. Pay special attention that the vehicle battery is not completely discharged. As many as four Intelligent Keys can be regis- tered and used with one vehicle. For information about the purchase and use of additional Intelli- gent Keys, contact a NISSAN dealer.

CAUTION

Listed below are conditions or occur- rences which will damage the Intelligent Key: c Do not allow the Intelligent Key, which contains electrical components, to come into contact with water or salt water. This could affect the system function.

c Do not drop the Intelligent Key. c Do not strike the Intelligent Key sharply

against another object.

c Do not change or modify the Intelligent

Key.

If the Intelligent Key is too close to the door glass, handle or rear bumper, the request switches may not function. When the Intelligent Key is within the operating range, it is possible for anyone, even someone who does not carry the Intelligent Key, to push the request switch to lock/unlock the doors.

OPERATING RANGE The Intelligent Key functions can only be used when the Intelligent Key is within the specified operating range from the request switch s1 . When the Intelligent Key battery is discharged or strong radio waves are present near the operat- ing location, the Intelligent Key operating range becomes narrower, and the Intelligent Key may not function properly.

The operating range is within 31.50 in (80 cm) from each request switch s1 .

DOOR LOCKS/UNLOCKS PRECAUTION c Do not push the door handle request switch with the Intelligent Key held in your hand as illustrated. The close distance to the door handle will cause the Intelligent Key system to have difficulty recognizing that the Intelli- gent Key is outside the vehicle.

c After locking with the door handle request switch, verify the doors are securely locked by testing them.

c To prevent the Intelligent Key from being left inside the vehicle, make sure you carry the Intelligent Key with you and then lock the doors.

c Do not pull the door handle before pushing the door handle request switch. The door will be unlocked but will not open. Release the door handle once and pull it again to open the door.

NISSAN INTELLIGENT KEY(cid:153) OPERATION You can lock or unlock the doors without taking the Intelligent Key out of your pocket or bag. When you carry the Intelligent Key with you, you can lock or unlock all doors by pushing the door handle request switch within the range of opera- tion.

Locking doors 1. Move the shift selector to the (cid:147)P(cid:148) position. Place the ignition switch in the LOCK posi- tion. Make sure the Intelligent Key is not left in the vehicle.

2. Close all doors. 3. Push any door handle request switch s1

while carrying the Intelligent Key with you.

4. All doors and the trunk will lock.

5. The hazard warning lights flash twice and

the outside buzzer sounds twice.

c Doors do not lock with the door handle request switch with the Intelligent Key inside the vehicle and a beep sounds to warn you. However, when an Intelligent Key is inside the vehicle, doors can be locked with an- other Intelligent Key.

CAUTION

c After locking the doors using the re- quest switch, make sure that the doors have been securely locked by operating the door handles or the trunk opener switch.

c When locking the doors using the re- quest switch, make sure to have the Intelligent Key in your possession be- fore operating the request switch to prevent the Intelligent Key from being left in the vehicle.

c The request switch is operational only when the Intelligent Key has been de- tected by the Intelligent Key system.

Lockout protection To prevent the Intelligent Key from being acci- dentally locked in the vehicle, lockout protection is equipped with the Intelligent Key. When the driver(cid:146)s side door is open, the doors are locked, and then the Intelligent Key is put

inside the vehicle and all the doors are closed; the lock will automatically unlock and the door buzzer sounds.

NOTE: The doors may not lock when the Intelli- gent Key is in the same hand that is oper- ating the request switch to lock the door. Put the Intelligent Key in a purse, pocket or your other hand.

CAUTION

The lockout protection may not function under the following conditions: c When the Intelligent Key is placed on

top of the instrument panel.

c When the Intelligent Key is placed on

top of the rear parcel shelf.

c When the Intelligent Key is placed in-

side the glove box or a storage bin.

c When the Intelligent Key is placed in-

side the door pockets.

c When the Intelligent Key is placed on or

under the spare tire area.

c When the Intelligent Key is placed in-

side or near metallic materials.
