Door Locks To lock or unlock the door from outside the vehicle, press K on the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter or use the key in the driver door. From inside the vehicle with the doors locked, pull once on the door handle to unlock it, and a second time to open it. Push down on the door lock knob on the top of the door.

Power Driver Seat Adjustment


The power window switches are located on the driver door. Each passenger door has a switch that controls only that window. Press the switch to lower the window. Pull the front of the switch up to raise it. See Power Windows 0 44 for additional information.


To adjust a power driver seat, if equipped: . Move the seat forward or


rearward by sliding the control forward or rearward.


. Raise or lower the front part of the seat cushion by moving the front of the control up or down.


. Raise or lower the entire seat by moving the rear of the control up or down.


To adjust the power seatback: . Tilt the top of the control


rearward to recline.


. Tilt the top of the control forward


to raise.

1. Lift the lever fully without applying pressure to the seatback, and the seatback returns to the upright position. 2. Push and pull on the seatback

Heated Seats


To recline a manual seatback: 1. Lift the lever.


If necessary, move the safety belt out of the way to access the lever.


2. Move the seatback to the


desired position, then release the lever to lock the seatback in place.


3. Push and pull on the seatback


to make sure it is locked.

If available, the controls are on the climate control panel. The engine must be running to operate the heated seats.


Press M or L to heat the driver or passenger seat cushion and seatback. Press the control once for the highest setting. With each press of the control, the heated seat will change to the next lower setting, and then the off setting. Three lights indicate the highest setting and one light the lowest. See Heated Front Seats 0 52.


Head Restraint Adjustment Do not drive until the head restraints for all occupants are installed and adjusted properly. To achieve a comfortable seating position, change the seatback recline angle as little as necessary while keeping the seat and the head restraint height in the proper position. See Head Restraints 0 48 and Seat Adjustment 0 49.

The passenger sensing system turns off the front outboard passenger frontal airbag and knee airbag under certain conditions. No other airbag is affected by the passenger sensing system. Adjustment Hold the rearview mirror in the center and move it to view the area behind the vehicle.


Manual Rearview Mirror For vehicles with a manual rearview mirror, push the tab forward for daytime use and pull it for nighttime use to avoid glare from the headlamps from behind. See Manual Rearview Mirror 0 43.


Automatic Dimming Rearview Mirror For vehicles with an automatic dimming rearview mirror, the mirror will automatically reduce the glare from the headlamps from behind. The dimming feature comes on when the vehicle is started. See Automatic Dimming Rearview Mirror 0 43.

The front reading lamps are located in the overhead console.


The rear reading lamps are located in the headliner. # or $ : Press the button near each lamp to turn it on or off.


The exterior lamp control is to the left of the steering column on the instrument panel. O : Briefly turn to this position to turn the automatic lamp control off or on again. AUTO : Turns the headlamps on automatically at normal brightness, together with the parking lamps, taillamps, license plate lamps, instrument panel lights, and sidemarker lamps. ; : Turns on the parking lamps including all lamps, except the headlamps.

Transmission


Vehicle Features


Driver Shift Control (DSC) DSC allows you to shift an automatic transmission similar to a manual transmission. To use the DSC feature: 1. Move the shift lever from


D (Drive) to the left into the (+) or (−) manual position.


2. Press the shift lever forward (+)


to upshift or rearward (−) to downshift. An M and the current gear will be displayed in the Driver Information Center (DIC).


See Manual Mode 0 196. While using the DSC feature, the vehicle will have firmer, quicker shifting. You can use this for sport driving or when climbing or descending hills, to stay in gear longer, or to downshift for more power or engine braking.


Infotainment System See the infotainment manual for information on the radio, audio players, phone, navigation system, and voice or speech recognition. There is also information on settings and downloadable applications (if equipped).


Radio(s) O /VOL : Press to turn the system on and off. Turn to increase or decrease the volume. RADIO/BAND : Press to choose between FM, AM, or SiriusXM®, if equipped. Satellite Radio If equipped, vehicles with a SiriusXM® satellite radio tuner and a valid SiriusXM satellite radio subscription can receive SiriusXM programming. SiriusXM Satellite Radio Service SiriusXM is a satellite radio service based in the 48 contiguous United States and 10 Canadian provinces. SiriusXM satellite radio has a wide variety of programming and commercial-free music, coast to coast, and in digital-quality sound. A fee is required to receive the SiriusXM service.

Portable Audio Devices Some vehicles have a 3.5 mm (1/8 in) auxiliary input and a USB port in the center console. External devices such as iPods®, laptop computers, MP3 players, CD changers, and USB drives may be connected, depending on the audio system. See Auxiliary Devices 0 153.


Bluetooth® The Bluetooth® system allows users with a Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone to make and receive hands-free calls using the vehicle audio system and controls.


The Bluetooth-enabled mobile phone must be paired with the in-vehicle Bluetooth system before it can be used in the vehicle. Not all phones will support all functions. See Bluetooth (Voice Recognition) 0 160 or Bluetooth (Infotainment Controls) 0 157 or Bluetooth (Overview) 0 155.


Steering Wheel Controls


For vehicles with audio steering wheel controls, some audio controls can be adjusted at the steering wheel.

Cruise Control


1 : Press to turn the cruise control system on or off. A white indicator comes in the instrument cluster when cruise is turned on. RES/+ : If there is a set speed in memory, move the thumbwheel up briefly to resume to that speed or hold upward to accelerate. If cruise control is already active, use to increase vehicle speed.


SET/− : Move the thumbwheel down briefly to set the speed and activate cruise control. If cruise control is already active, use to decrease speed. * : Press to disengage cruise control without erasing the set speed from memory. See Cruise Control 0 205.


Driver Information Center (DIC) The DIC display is in the center of the instrument cluster. It shows the status of many vehicle systems. The controls for the DIC are on the turn signal lever.


1. SET/CLR: Press to set,


or press and hold to clear, the menu item displayed.


2. w / x : Use the band to scroll through the items in each menu.


3. MENU: Press to display the


DIC menus. This button is also used to return to or exit the last screen displayed on the DIC.

Forward Collision Alert (FCA) System If equipped, FCA may help avoid or reduce the harm caused by front-end crashes. FCA provides a green indicator, V, when a vehicle is detected ahead. When approaching a vehicle ahead too quickly, FCA provides a visual alert and rapidly beeps. See Forward Collision Alert (FCA) System 0 211.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW) If equipped, LDW may help avoid unintentional lane departures at speeds of 56 km/h (35 mph) or greater. LDW uses a camera sensor to detect the lane markings. The LDW light, @, is green if a lane marking is detected. If the vehicle departs the lane without using a turn signal in that direction, the light will change to amber and flash. In addition, beeps will sound. See Lane Departure Warning (LDW) 0 215.


Side Blind Zone Alert (SBZA) If equipped, SBZA will detect moving vehicles in the next lane over in the vehicle's side blind zone area. When this happens, the SBZA display will light up in the corresponding outside side mirror and will flash if the turn signal is on. See Side Blind Zone Alert (SBZA) 0 213.


Rear Vision Camera (RVC) If equipped, RVC displays a view of the area behind the vehicle, on the center stack display, when the vehicle is shifted into R (Reverse). See Rear Vision Camera (RVC) 0 207.


Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) System If equipped, the RCTA system uses a triangle with an arrow displayed on the RVC screen to warn of traffic behind your vehicle that may cross your vehicle's path while in R (Reverse). In addition, beeps will sound. See “Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA)” under Rear Vision Camera (RVC) 0 207.


Parking Assist If equipped, Rear Parking Assist (RPA) uses sensors on the rear bumper to assist with parking and avoiding objects while in

R (Reverse). It operates at speeds less than 8 km/h (5 mph) and uses audible beeps to provide distance and system information. Keep the sensors on the vehicle's rear bumper clean to ensure proper operation. See Parking Assist 0 210.


Power Outlets The accessory power outlets can be used to plug in electrical equipment, such as a cell phone or MP3 player. There is one accessory power outlet located on the center stack below the climate control and one on the rear of the center floor console. These outlets are powered when the key is in ON/RUN or ACC/ ACCESSORY, or until the driver door is opened within 10 minutes of turning off the vehicle. See Retained Accessory Power (RAP) 0 191. Universal Remote System


Sunroof


If equipped, this system provides a way to replace up to three remote control transmitters used to activate devices such as garage door openers, security systems, and home automation devices. Read the instructions completely before attempting to program the Universal Remote system. Because of the steps involved, it may be helpful to have another person available to assist with programming the Universal Remote system. See Universal Remote System 0 128.


For vehicles with a sunroof, the sunroof only operates when the ignition is in ON/RUN or ACC/ ACCESSORY, or in Retained Accessory Power (RAP). See Retained Accessory Power (RAP) 0 191. Open/Close : Press switch (1) to the first detent position. Express Open/Close : Press switch (1) to the second detent position and release. To stop the movement, press the switch again.


Automatic Tilt/Close : Press the rear of switch (2) to vent the sunroof. Press the front of switch (2) to close the sunroof vent. If an object is in the path of the sunroof while it is closing, the anti-pinch feature will detect the object and stop the sunroof. The sunroof will then return to the full-open or vent position. The sunroof cannot be opened or closed if the vehicle has an electrical failure. See Sunroof 0 46.

Performance and Maintenance


Traction Control/ Electronic Stability Control The Traction Control System (TCS) limits wheel spin. The system turns on automatically every time the vehicle is started. The StabiliTrak system assists with directional control of the vehicle in difficult driving conditions. The system also turns on automatically every time the vehicle is started. . To turn off traction control, press and release the g button on the center stack. The traction off light i illuminates. The appropriate DIC message displays. See Ride Control System Messages 0 120.


. To turn off both traction control and StabiliTrak, press and hold the g button, until the traction off light i and the StabiliTrak OFF light g illuminate.


. Press and release the g button again to turn on both systems. The appropriate DIC message displays. See Ride Control System Messages 0 120.

Tire Pressure Monitor This vehicle may have a Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS).


The low tire pressure warning light alerts to a significant loss in pressure of one of the vehicle's tires. If the warning light comes on,

stop as soon as possible and inflate the tires to the recommended pressure shown on the Tire and Loading Information label. See Vehicle Load Limits 0 181. The warning light will remain on until the tire pressure is corrected. The low tire pressure warning light may come on in cool weather when the vehicle is first started, and then turn off as the vehicle is driven. This may be an early indicator that the tire pressures are getting low and the tires need to be inflated to the proper pressure. The TPMS does not replace normal monthly tire maintenance. Maintain the correct tire pressures. See Tire Pressure Monitor System 0 269.

Engine Oil Life System The engine oil life system calculates engine oil life based on vehicle use and displays the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message when it is time to change the engine oil and filter. The oil life system should be reset to 100% only following an oil change.


Resetting the Oil Life System 1. Turn the ignition to ON/RUN


with the engine off.


2. Press the DIC MENU button on


the turn signal lever to enter the Vehicle Information Menu. Use the thumbwheel to scroll through the menu items until you reach REMAINING OIL LIFE.


3. Press the SET/CLR button to


reset the oil life at 100%.


4. Turn the ignition to LOCK/OFF. See Engine Oil Life System 0 235.


Driving for Better Fuel Economy Driving habits can affect fuel mileage. Here are some driving tips to get the best fuel economy possible. . Avoid fast starts and accelerate


smoothly.

impacted, and airbags may not deploy. To reduce the risk of unintentional rotation of the ignition key, do not change the way the ignition key and Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter, if equipped, are connected to the provided key rings.


If the vehicle is equipped with a keyed ignition, the ignition key, key rings, and RKE transmitter, if equipped, are designed to work together. As a system, it reduces the risk of unintentionally moving the key out of the RUN position. If replacements or additions are required, see your dealer. Limit added items to a few essential keys or small, light items no larger than an RKE transmitter. The key that is part of the RKE transmitter can be used for the ignition and all locks if the vehicle is a Key Access vehicle.


If the vehicle has the keyless ignition, the key can be used for the locks.


Press the button on the RKE transmitter to extend the key. Press the button and the key blade to retract the key. If the vehicle has an ignition and it becomes difficult to turn the key, inspect the key blade for debris. Periodically clean with a brush or pick. See your dealer if a new key is needed.


{ Warning


If the key is unintentionally rotated while the vehicle is running, the ignition could be moved out of the RUN position. This could be caused by heavy items hanging from the key ring, or by large or long items attached to the key ring that could be contacted by the driver or steering wheel. Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System Operation The Keyless Access system allows for vehicle entry when the transmitter is within range. See “Keyless Access Operation” following. The transmitter functions may work up to 60 m (197 ft) away from the vehicle. Keep in mind that other conditions, such as those previously stated, can impact the performance of the transmitter.


If locked out of the vehicle, see Roadside Assistance Program 0 325. With an active OnStar subscription, an OnStar Advisor may remotely unlock the vehicle. See OnStar Overview 0 335.


Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System See Radio Frequency Statement 0 331. If there is a decrease in the RKE operating range: . Check the distance. The


transmitter may be too far from the vehicle.


. Check the location. Other vehicles or objects may be blocking the signal.


. Check the transmitter's battery. See “Battery Replacement” later in this section. If the transmitter is still not working correctly, see your dealer or a qualified technician for service.


With Remote Start Shown K (Unlock) : Press to unlock the driver door or all doors. See Vehicle Personalization 0 122. The turn signal indicators may flash to indicate unlocking. If the driver door is open when Q is pressed, all doors lock and the driver door will immediately unlock, if enabled through the vehicle personalization. If the passenger door is open when Q is pressed, all doors lock. Pressing Q may also arm the alarm system. See Vehicle Alarm System 0 39. Y(Remote Trunk Release) : Press and hold to release the trunk. 7 (Vehicle Locator/Panic Alarm) : Press and release one time to initiate vehicle locator. The exterior lamps flash and the horn chirps three times. Press and hold 7 for at least three seconds to sound the panic alarm. The horn sounds and the turn signals flash for 30 seconds, or until 7 is pressed again or the vehicle is started. / (Remote Vehicle Start) : If equipped, press to operate the remote start feature. See Remote Vehicle Start 0 32.


The buttons on the transmitter are disabled when there is a key in the ignition, if equipped. Keyless Access Operation Some vehicles have a Keyless Access system that lets you lock and unlock the doors without removing the RKE transmitter from your pocket, purse, briefcase, etc. The RKE transmitter should be within 1 m (3 ft) of the door being opened. If the vehicle has this feature, there will be buttons on the outside front door handles. The vehicle can be customized to always unlock all doors on the first lock/unlock button press. See Vehicle Personalization 0 122.


Keyless Unlocking/Locking from the Driver Door When the doors are locked and the RKE transmitter is within 1 m (3 ft) of the driver door handle, pressing the lock/unlock button on the driver door handle will unlock the driver door. If the lock/unlock button is


pressed again within five seconds, all passenger doors will unlock. Pull the door handle to unlatch the door.

Keyless Unlocking/Locking from the Passenger Doors When the doors are locked and the RKE transmitter is within 1 m (3 ft) of the passenger door handle, pressing the lock/unlock button on the passenger door handle will unlock all doors. Pressing the lock/unlock button will cause all doors to lock if any of the following occur: . The lock/unlock button was used


to unlock all doors.


. Any vehicle door has opened and all doors are now closed.


Passive Locking If equipped with Keyless Access, the vehicle will lock several seconds after all doors are closed if the vehicle is off and at least one transmitter has been removed or none remain in the vehicle. If other electronic devices interfere with the RKE transmitter signal, the vehicle may not detect the RKE transmitter inside the vehicle. If passive locking is enabled, the


doors may lock with the RKE transmitter inside the vehicle. Do not leave the RKE transmitter in an unattended vehicle.


Temporary Disable of Passive Locking Feature Temporarily disable the passive locking by pressing and holding K on the interior door switch with a door open for at least four seconds, or until three chimes are heard. Passive locking will then remain disabled until Q on the interior door is pressed, or until the vehicle is turned on. To customize the doors to automatically lock when exiting the vehicle, see Vehicle Personalization 0 122. Programming Transmitters to the Vehicle Only RKE transmitters programmed to the vehicle will work. If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be purchased and programmed through your dealer. The vehicle can be reprogrammed


so that lost or stolen transmitters no longer work. Any remaining transmitters will need to be reprogrammed. Each vehicle can have up to eight transmitters matched to it.


Programming with a Recognized Transmitter (Key Vehicles Only) To program a new key: 1.


Insert the original, already programmed key in the ignition and turn the key to the ON/ RUN position.


2. Turn the key to LOCK/OFF,

Programming without a Recognized Transmitter (Key Vehicles Only) Program a new key to the vehicle when a recognized key is not available. Canadian regulations require that owners see their dealer. If there are no currently recognized keys available, follow this procedure to program the first key. This procedure will take approximately 30 minutes to complete for the first key. The vehicle must be off and all of the keys you wish to program must be with you. 1.


Insert the new vehicle key into the ignition.


2. Turn to ON/RUN. The security


light will come on.


3. Wait 10 minutes until the


security light turns off.


4. Turn the ignition to LOCK/OFF. 5. Repeat Steps 2–4 two more


times. After the third time, turn to ON/RUN; the key is learned


and all previously known keys will no longer work with the vehicle.


Remaining keys can be learned by following the procedure in “Programming with a Recognized Transmitter.”


Programming with a Recognized Transmitter (Keyless Access Vehicles Only) A new transmitter can be programmed to the vehicle when there is one recognized transmitter. To program, the vehicle must be off and all of the transmitters, both currently recognized and new, must be with you. 1. Place the recognized

transmitter(s) near you. Insert the vehicle key of the new transmitter into the key lock cylinder on the outside of the driver door and turn the key to the unlock position five times within 12 seconds. The Driver Information Center (DIC) displays READY FOR REMOTE #2, 3, 4 or 5.


3. Place the new transmitter into the transmitter pocket with the buttons facing up. The transmitter pocket is inside the center console cupholder. The cupholder liner will need to be removed to access the transmitter pocket. Use a finger or a tool in the notch at the rear of the cupholders to remove the liner. See Cupholders 0 93.


4. Press the ENGINE START/


STOP button. When the transmitter is learned, the DIC will show that it is ready to program the next transmitter.

Starting the Vehicle with a Low Transmitter Battery When trying to start the vehicle, if the transmitter battery is weak, the DIC may display NO REMOTE DETECTED or USE TRANSMITTER POCKET TO START. The REPLACE BATTERY IN REMOTE KEY message may also be displayed at this time. To start the vehicle: 1. Remove the cupholder liner


from the center console cupholder. See Cupholders 0 93.


2. Place the transmitter in the transmitter pocket with the buttons facing up.


3. With the vehicle in P (Park) or


N (Neutral), press the brake pedal and the ENGINE START/ STOP button. See Starting the Engine 0 188 for additional information about the vehicle's keyless ignition with pushbutton start. Replace the transmitter battery as soon as possible. Battery Replacement Replace the battery if the REPLACE BATTERY IN REMOTE KEY message displays in the DIC. See Key and Lock Messages 0 119.


Caution


When replacing the battery, do not touch any of the circuitry on the transmitter. Static from your body could damage the transmitter.


The battery is not rechargeable. To replace the battery: 1. Press the button on the


transmitter to extend the key. 2. Remove the battery cover by


prying it with a finger.


3. Remove the battery by pushing

The climate control system will use the previous settings during a remote start. The rear defog may come on during remote start based on cold ambient conditions. The rear fog indicator light does not come on during remote start. If the vehicle has heated seats, they may come on during a remote start. See Heated Front Seats 0 52. Laws in some local communities may restrict the use of remote starters. For example, some laws require a person using remote start to have the vehicle in view. Check local regulations for any requirements. Other conditions can affect the performance of the transmitter. See Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) System 0 27.


Starting the Vehicle To start the engine using the remote start feature: 1. Press and release Q.

Immediately after completing Step 1, press and hold / for at least four seconds or until the turn signal lamps flash. The turn signal lamps flashing confirms the request to remote start the vehicle has been received.


When the engine starts, the parking lamps will turn on and remain on as long as the engine is running. The doors will be locked and the climate control system may come on. The engine will continue to run for 10 minutes. After 30 seconds, repeat the steps if a 10-minute extension is desired. Remote start can be extended only once.


Extending Engine Run Time For a 10-minute extension, repeat Steps 1 and 2 while the engine is still running. An extension can be requested, 30 seconds after starting. This provides a total of 15 minutes. The remote start can be extended once.


When the remote start is extended, the second 10 minutes will start immediately. For example, if the engine has been running for five minutes, and 10 minutes are added, the engine will run for a total of 15 minutes. A maximum of two remote starts, or a single start with an extension, is allowed between ignition cycles. The vehicle's ignition must be turned on and then back off before the remote start procedure can be used again.


Canceling a Remote Start To cancel a remote start, do one of the following: . Press and hold / until the


parking lamps turn off.


. Turn on the hazard warning


flashers.


. Turn the vehicle on and then off.

Door Locks


{ Warning Unlocked doors can be dangerous.


. Passengers, especially


children, can easily open the doors and fall out of a moving vehicle. The chance of being thrown out of the vehicle in a crash is increased if the doors are not locked. So, all passengers should wear safety belts properly and the doors should be locked whenever the vehicle is driven.


. Young children who get into


unlocked vehicles may be unable to get out. A child can be overcome by extreme heat and can suffer permanent injuries or even death from heat stroke. Always lock the vehicle whenever leaving it.

. Outsiders can easily enter through an unlocked door when slowing or stopping the vehicle. Lock the doors to help prevent this from happening.


To lock or unlock the door from outside the vehicle, press K on the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter or use the key in the driver door. From inside the vehicle with the doors locked, pull once on the door handle to unlock it, and a second time to open it. Push down on the door lock knob on the top of the door. Manually locking the driver door also automatically locks all other doors.

Delayed locking can only be turned on when the Open Door Anti Lockout feature has been turned off. When Q is pressed on the power door lock switch with the door open, a chime will sound three times indicating that delayed locking is active. The doors will then lock automatically five seconds after all doors are closed. If a door is reopened before five seconds have elapsed, the five-second timer will reset once all the doors are closed again. Press Q on the door lock switch again, or press Q on the RKE transmitter, to override this feature and lock the doors immediately. Delayed locking can be programmed through the Driver Information Center (DIC). See Vehicle Personalization 0 122.

Automatic Door Locks When the doors are closed, the ignition is on, and the shift lever is moved out of P (Park) for automatic transmissions, or the vehicle speed is above 13 km/h (8 mph) for manual transmissions, the doors will lock. To unlock the doors: . Press K on a power door lock

. For vehicles with an automatic


transmission, shift the transmission into P (Park). . For vehicles with a manual


transmission and keyed ignition system, remove the key from the ignition when parked.


. For vehicles with a manual


transmission and pushbutton start system, turn the vehicle Off when parked.


Automatic door unlocking can be programmed through the Driver Information Center (DIC). See Vehicle Personalization 0 122.


Lockout Protection If equipped with pushbutton start and the vehicle is in ACC/ ACCESSORY or ON/RUN/START, and locking is requested with the driver door open, all doors will lock and only the driver door will unlock. If equipped with a keyed ignition, and the key is in the ignition when locking is requested with the driver door open, all doors will lock and then the driver door will unlock. Lockout Protection with the key in the ignition can be manually overridden with the driver door open by pressing and holding Q on the power door lock switch. If Open Door Anti Lockout is turned on and the vehicle is off, and locking is requested with the driver door open, all doors will lock and only the driver door will unlock. The Open Door Anti Lockout feature can be turned on or off using the vehicle personalization menus. See Vehicle Personalization 0 122.


Safety Locks The rear door safety locks prevent passengers from opening the rear doors from inside the vehicle. Manual Safety Locks


If equipped, the safety lock is located on the inside edge of the rear doors. To use the safety lock: Insert the key into the safety 1. lock slot and turn it so the slot is in the horizontal position.

Exhaust gases can enter the vehicle if it is driven with the liftgate, trunk/hatch open, or with any objects that pass through the seal between the body and the trunk/hatch or liftgate. Engine exhaust contains carbon monoxide (CO) which cannot be seen or smelled. It can cause unconsciousness and even death. If the vehicle must be driven with the liftgate, or trunk/hatch open:

Trunk Release


Emergency Trunk Release Handle


the release handle to open the trunk from the inside. After use, return to the stored position.


Caution


Do not use the emergency trunk release handle as a tie-down or anchor point when securing items in the trunk as it could damage the handle.


Use one of the following methods to open the trunk. The vehicle must be off, or stopped with the parking brake applied (manual transmission), or the shift lever must be in P (Park) (automatic transmission), in order for the trunk to be opened. . Press 8 on the center stack. . Press and hold Y on the


Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter.


There is an emergency trunk release handle inside the trunk on the trunk lid. The release handle can be accessed by folding the rear seatback. See Rear Seats 0 53. Pull

Vehicle Alarm System This vehicle has an anti-theft alarm system.


The indicator light, on the instrument panel near the windshield, indicates the status of the system: Off : Alarm system is disarmed.

On Solid : Vehicle is secured during the delay to arm the system. Fast Flash : Vehicle is unsecured. A door, the hood, or the trunk is open. Slow Flash : Alarm system is armed. Arming the Alarm System 1. Close the trunk and the hood.


Turn off the vehicle.


2. Lock the vehicle in one of


three ways: . Use the RKE transmitter. . Use the Keyless Access


system, if equipped.


. With a door open, press the


inside Q.


3. After 30 seconds the alarm


system will arm, and the indicator light will begin to slowly flash indicating the alarm system is operating. Pressing Q on the RKE transmitter a second time will


bypass the 30-second delay and immediately arm the alarm system.


The vehicle alarm system will not arm if the doors are locked with the key. If the driver door is opened without first unlocking with the RKE transmitter, the horn will chirp and the lights will flash to indicate pre-alarm. If the vehicle is not started, or the door is not unlocked by pressing K on the RKE transmitter during the 10-second pre-alarm, the alarm will be activated. If a door, the hood, or the trunk is opened without first disarming the system, the turn signals will flash and the horn will sound for about 30 seconds. The alarm system will then re-arm to monitor for the next unauthorized event.

Disarming the Alarm System Do one of the following to disarm the alarm system or turn off the alarm if it has been activated: . Press K on the RKE transmitter. . Unlock the vehicle using the

. Start the vehicle. To avoid setting off the alarm by accident: . Lock the vehicle after all


occupants have left the vehicle and all doors are closed.


. Always unlock a door with the


RKE transmitter or use the Keyless Access system, if equipped.


Unlocking the driver door with the key will not disarm the system or turn off the alarm.


How to Detect a Tamper Condition If K is pressed on the RKE transmitter and the horn chirps and the lights flash three times, an alarm occurred previously while the alarm system was armed. If the alarm has been activated, a message will appear on the DIC. See Security Messages 0 121.


Immobilizer See Radio Frequency Statement 0 331.


Immobilizer Operation (Key Access) This vehicle has a passive theft-deterrent system. The system does not have to be manually armed or disarmed. The vehicle is automatically immobilized when the key is removed from the ignition.


The system is automatically disarmed when the vehicle is started with the correct key. The key uses a transponder that matches an immobilizer control unit in the vehicle and automatically disarms the system. Only the correct key starts the vehicle. The vehicle may not start if the key is damaged.


The security light in the instrument cluster comes on if there is a problem with arming or disarming the theft-deterrent system. When trying to start the vehicle, the security light comes on briefly when the ignition is turned on. If the engine does not start and the security light stays on, there is a problem with the system. Turn the ignition off and try again.

If the engine still does not start, and the key appears to be undamaged or the light continues to stay on, try another ignition key. If the engine still does not start with the other key, the vehicle needs service. If the vehicle does start, the first key may be damaged. See your dealer who can service the theft-deterrent system and have a new key made. Do not leave the key or device that disarms or deactivates the theft-deterrent system in the vehicle.


Immobilizer Operation (Keyless Access) This vehicle has a passive theft-deterrent system. The system does not have to be manually armed or disarmed. The vehicle is automatically immobilized when the transmitter
