Pretty much, it's very much a value for money thing as well. Buying property and renting property, for what you get in terms of $ value... is a bit ridiculous when you compare. For example, a massive 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom 6 car garage tuscan style mansion on the beach front in Cape Town will cost you around R6Million, which works out under $660k AUD. I'm pretty sure everyone would agree that you wouldn't get that kind of property for that price here.

With regards to the Salary, positions are different here and there with regards to income. Main reason why so many Doctors from SA come here - they can earn more, then go figure, people go overseas for treatments because it's cheaper. Going to the movies in SA will cost you around R19 from memory - about $2. I shout all my mates and business colleagues a feast of a dinner at a really fine restaurant near the waterfront in Cape Town - last time I was back, we were 12 people, the bill came to R1989 - around $210, for 12 people, with starters, steaks, desserts and drinks.

Ever want to have an awesome holiday with your Aussie $, go see South Africa smile.gif maybe buy a car while you're at it tongue.gif

I worked with a Zim guy who sold up everything and moved over to Aus......got the shock of his life when he went to buy a house, car, etc over here in regards to how much everything costs.

Just decided to do a bit of research into SA income.

General/Operations manager average income:

Australia - $90,000 / R815,245
South Africa - R311,299 / $34,353 AUD

So essentially, although it's just over half the price of what we'd pay, it would technically be more expensive there.

LOL what kind of pleb GM in Australia is only on 90k a year? :bowrofl:

I dunno. I think they combined different kind of managerial roles to get that average, so it's not a clear indicator. But I'd imagine they did the same thing for the South African statistics as it was from the same website.

Drinks. So many drinks.....

I also found a VERY nice port last night but for the life of me cant remember its name. All I remember about it is its a tawny of sorts and is the only port they serve at The Curbside. Wonderfully chill place cant believe it is literally 2 minutes from work Nd I had no idea it was there. Bartender with the Pom accent is probably the nicest bloke Ive ever met behind a bar. Highly reccomend.

I can understand pod machines to some extent (have one myself) since they make an acceptable enough cup of coffee, but those things use powdered milk as well, you insane or just don't give a sh!t about what it tastes like?
