Hi everybody! *Dr Nick impersonation*

Ok, I have gone the first step and bought a '97 S14 200SX.

Now, I am looking for suggestions as to what mods....mild to wild, that I can do to it.

Any suggestions would be appreciated and rough cost estimates, so I can work out how long I have to go without food to afford to buy these things laugh.gif

Keep in mind, I'm not into over-stated body kits or graphics etc.

Thanks.

Me:- Sorry officer, but my foot slipped off the clutch
Officer:- But son, you were sideways for half the street. Did your foot slip off the clutch onto the accelerator??
Me:- No, the throttle stuck open. I had to get it straight before I killed the motor.
Officer:- I'm not sure I believe you for some reason.
Me:- Oh and there was a patch of oil on the road too. Did you see that?
Officer:- No I didn't.
Me:- Come on, does it look like this car could do that on purpose?

Spdy_S14...

I'd first suggest a 3" exhaust from Turbo Back... Boosted S15's Blitz NUR system is hell spiffy (about $2000)

Then a air filter or the like.. again the blitz system was pretty beneficial to the S15... (<$500)

3rd Engine Managment, Uni-Chip or Chip Torque chips are pretty decent and with the above mods you should strangle about 140-150kw+ outta the SR20.. (<$1600)

Then If you want more power, you'll have to go bigger hair dryer, tissue box, squirters and pump.

Good luck, Hope this helps.

Cheers,

yeah, I had same problem with insurance. Have a number of quotes from different companies and it came down to RACQ with minor mods ieno lower than 1.5 inches, no frount intercooler, exhaust max 2.5inch (and if I change the exhaust, then that is the only mod I can make), no BOV, no Boost controller. Basically can't do anything. All for 1300/yr.

AAMI will insure me with a number of mods for 920. But good ol' Just Cars will insure me, with any mods at all for about 1500. BTW i am 25 with perfect driving history, so that helps a little...not much though biggrin.gif

dude I reckon u should definately go the exhaust/filter 1st, as Mattson suggested, but have a think about installing a Microtech unit or something instead of just a chip remap, with Microtech u don't need an air flow meter (these are tiny & restrictive on sr20 motors) 7 many places are now offering deals with Microtech installed & tuned for around $1400-$1500 bucks now...after that????? well u should get a front mount intercooler straight away b4 bigger turbo, injectors etc....

someone delete that tool!

Yea insurance is murder. In my parents '94 VR commie i had an excess of over $1000 and god knows what the premium was! Lucky I havent ever come close to smashing it (let alone scraping it)!

I think its a bit unreasonable...if you think about it....if someone takes pride in their car...wont they be less likely to drive it like a complete dickhead?

hey guys do you think its better to get straight bolt on exhausts like blitz for example or custom.

And another thing a mechanic has suggested to go 3.5' instead of just 3'. Is that too big?

Yeah I'm keen to start modifying my s14 as well but I think I gotta change insurance companies coz like Spdy_S14 Racq won't accept any mods and that sucks for $2000 a year.

How quick can you get these cars going anyway?

Completely agree with DODGI with the exhaust and then fron mount all that.

Then you can turn up the boost. Then you can consider a small shot of NOS if your interested.

I know someone that has done those mods and then now the NOS and the car kicks ass

Just remember but, an N2O system on a car road car in QLD is highly illegal, and that is ANY part of the said system. But yeah, free it up, boost it, should go nice.
