ok im having problems with the fuse for my high beam. it keeps melting its the correct amperage yet it melts the insulation off of the fuse it doesnt blow it. i was thinking of relaying it or puting a circuit breaker in but what could be the problem.

There aint nothing like shoehorning a V8 into a zed.

First (wheel spin), second (wheel spin), third (wheel spin), fourth, valve bounce, 150kmh WTF. bloody gear ratios.

well if i am understanding what you mean i would think its getting hot. ummm heat is cause by resistance. check all the conections etc because this is usually what causes resistance. can be even just crudd on the conection that does it so clean them up and see how they go. get a multimeter and check the circuit

relay would be good, and yes check your connections. Relay will lower switching current but will not make much difference to your running current. Hence why they use relays for spot/driving lights.

High resistance is called a hot joint (nothing to do with weed, sorry) and this is what your problem sounds like. Hot joints ruin the cabling but don't increase current (why fuse not blowing). I suggest cutting connections about an inch from termination (if possible) and reterminate with new lugs etc.

If you still have problems, then go with the relay. Circuit breaker not really a good idea, as some have a tendancy to trip slower than a fuse (depending on fuse, but hey that's a whole other story) and you really don't want that!

Sorry if this is an overload, but I hope it may help some.

thanks for the help i checked the conections and they seemed fine but i cleaned them up anyhow and its still a problem. i think i will go with a relay because i talked to an auto elec and he said it is a common problem with VL commodores. thanks.

Ahh yes, the ol' VL commodore and its traditional bad earthing/grounding. Yes, very common problem. Had to run both positive and negative power cables for the stereo I had in my old VL, all due to poor grounding. Poor design really.
