All commcercial vehicles have higher load ratings then passenger vehicles...check your tyre placecard and speak to a tyre shop regarding. |

this rule will never change straight from the horses(dot) mouth...i got pulled up about 3 mths ago let off with a warning, have known guys get done and penalty can be a $150-$500 fine and points courthearings etc.have heard alot of different scenarios on this subject therefore even though im an older guy i decided to sell my diablo 18s(was pissed about doing this believe me) and now run 16s ford pursuits, popo never look twice now... |

Just check your tyre placard like others have said. Pretty sure them utes don't need a really high load rating. |

if ur hilux placard says 14 in and u run 17's be prepared for a defect Argh! That doesn't matter. As long as the overall diameter stays the same it's legal. |

they will be fine. xr6 rims are a load rated rim, plus the tyre you have on them will most likely be a load rated tyre, even though you say its a performance tyre the rims will be fine, the tyre on the other hand will be the wrong load rating, which is illegal and also will make your insurence void if you have a crash. its been said about a billion times before on boost. and the 235/45/17's that would come on the rims, would bearly be a 95 load, and as some one said before, they need a min of like 104/105. |

u guys realise that the same wheels and tyres come on both xr6 ute and sedan? they have a 94 load rating if im correct? fine on light commerical eg hilux or the xr6/8 ute they could be off yes they do, but they have normal radial tyres, not commercial rated tyres. but there are quite a few faclon utes that have/need commercial rated tyre. refer to your tyre placard so see what you need. a hilux needs to have commercial rated tyres as thats what it was made with/ADR for. p.s. ford utes that have commercial tyres have a min load rating of about 99. they run a 215/60/16 in either a 200 E star( has a little star after the 200E) or a G26 cargo from factory. |

http://www.tmr.qld.gov.au/~/media/a0f84a28...ds_vehicles.pdf 5.1 A motor vehicle that is a light goods vehicle using passenger car tyres must not be fitted with: (a) any combination of tyres which, when fitted to the vehicle, are not in accordance with the Tyre and Rim Standards Manual of the Tyre and Rim Association of Australia; and ( tyres that have load rating capacities that are less than the vehicle manufacturer’s rated specification or as required on the vehicle manufacturer’s tyre placard (whichever is applicable); and © any wheel or rim in which the load rating is not in accordance with the load ratings required in 5.1 (a). that is taken from the qld transport website. so next person who says its legal is a complete fuck wit and needs to be shot. So the wheel's are legal and i have to find a light truck(or similar) tyre with over the load rating stated on the place card? which means i need to find these tires in 17's? possible? |

it is possible, but hard to get. continental tyres is about the only ones who make a load rated tyre in a 235/45/17, but even then, i cant remember what load they are. i know it fairly high. |

Alright, i looked into this when i had my old ute, You can get 17 inch tyres with the right load rating, although its almost impossible to find them with the right load rating+rolling diameter. However 16 inch rims on the other hand is too easy. A nice pair of load rated 16's are the go anyways, legal and don't look to bad at all. |

I work for beaurepaires and our info from qld transport is that if the vehicle comes standard with light truck or commercial rated tyres then we must check the tyre placard and add 10% to the minimum load carrying capacity per tyre for passenger tyres. Obviously this is void if just putting LT tyres back on. Eg. if the vehicles tyre placard states that the minimum load carrying capacity is 1000kg, or 500kg per tyre, then the passenger tyre to be fitted must be at least 550kg per tyre. I'm not 100% sure as per the wheel construction, but I beleive it is to be the same load rating as what's on the tyre placard. I will post the link as soon as our head office sends it to me. |

Here's the link. Pay particular attention to the "Please Note" section, 1st paragraph at the bottom of page 3. Hope this clears things up. |
