If you have a look at death results over the last few years, they have dropped from 17-21 compared to the years before P plate restrictions. Its around somewhere, go google it.

Yes but that's more due to the curfew than vehicle restrictions IMO.
I don't think you can prove I am wrong.

Here we go again. I'm a P plater. I think the rules are fine. Sure they are a little bit "stupid" but at the end of the day, they are right. I agree it's all about the driver. A P Plater driver could be a awesome driver and a 40 year old might be shit. But at the end of the day, a 40 year old driver has more experience than a 17 year old driver. Doesn't generally mean he is better driver but he's had many more years of driving than a 17 year old.

Basically what i'm saying is, It all comes down to the driver. If your going to be a tool and crash your car it's your loss, weather your a P plater or not. You could be the BEST driver in the world and still prang you car.

TBH, the rules are not going to change, so you should just put up with it.

As for safety, If you don't do stupid shit in your old car, your safe. If you get a WRX with more safety features, it doesn't mean you're going to be safe. If you do stupid things, sure the car might be better off if someone runs into you in a newer car, but as it's already been discussed, it's your own fault if you cant afford to get something "safer".

But if your 26 and just as inexperienced (like i said Prohibited vehicles dont count if your over 25), your allowed to drive any car you want? The law is pants-on-head retarded in this sense.

No.

It allows for the fact that by the age of 25+ you have less chance of doing something stupid to try and impress your mates.

Im a P plater and agree that it all comes down to the driver. I do not agree with the current restrictions but they have to do something to keep us semi under control.

I've owned an 05 VZ sv6 and now currently have an 02 Liberty RX.

The sv6 has 190+kW and the RX has 115kw
When i had the sv6 i knew it was fast and it bloody was, but my mindset was that all it takes is a little bit of stupidity in the wet and your gone.

Although when i got the liberty a few things changed.
Because it was AWD i started going into corners and roundabouts a little harder then normal trying to push it a bit harder. Its stupid of me but it just happens.

My mate also owns a 90's lazer and he guns it around like hes a race driver and its bloody scary being it in. Feeling safe is a tottaly different concept to being safe.

It doesn't matter what car you drive, so again it all comes down to the driver.
If you want to do stupid shit, go to open areas' carparks/private property.

I have no idea what the fuck i just wrote haha :\

Jake, if you think an SV6 is fast then the laws are working JUUUUUUST right.

Because you're 20... Studies show the human brain is still developing by 25. A 25yr old driver, is going to be waaay more responsible on the road then a 20yr old, whether you want to believe it or not. There is a big difference between peer pressure when you're young, and older. If you honestly believe that people older are still going to do stupid things at stupid times, then.. Good for you.

Well that doesn't explain the SS I saw just the other day at work, balding older driver hanging out the window, stockies on the back and everything. Also doesn't explain the red el 6 cylinder that drifted around this street's corner last night, that guy would of had to of been at least 30.

Like I have previously stated, in my opinion if you drive like a dickhead when your young, your most likely going to drive like a dickhead when your older too.

Wouldn't the laws make more sense like this: If you lose your license for speeding/racing/ect your not allowed to drive high powered vehicles anymore? Makes more sense than me not being allowed to drive my wrx for a few more weeks.

So, you saw TWO older people to prove the exception to the rule, and because of that. You're saying that ALL old people do stupid shit...?

I saw a young kid in a WRX with a flat cap on making out with his boyfriend. Therefore, all you young kids with WRX's are gay flat cappers. Also, no. Taking away the right to older people to drive their car because of loss points is stupid. You cant just implement that to people where that may be their only means of transport. Big difference to banning young kids from driving it from the get go.

Sorry mate, I dont see any difference, just as you would say to a P plater: Tough Shit.

The only difference is your punishing the guilty when you take away a speeder's right to drive a high powered vehicle.

As opposed to punishing innocent P platers as well.

Don't get me wrong I have seen P platers do stupid shit too, its just in my personal experience I have seen just as many Black license drivers do the same immature shit.

Gives the P platers 3 years to save up for there '"safer" wrx, then the new open drivers speeds to the shithouse, they get caught, they pay the fines and the government still wins anyway?

The thing some people forget is that the public is actually meant to control the government.

Actually if an older person gets caught hooning excessivly a few times it would make sense for them to lose the righ to drive turbo cars because they have shown what their mentality is like.

At the end of the day nothing will stop a stupid driver being a stupid driver but his/her own life lessons. These people will carry their habbits till they die as it is a mindset not an age related issue. For these minority the restricted vehicle scheme will have zero effect. The only hope is that they learn enough in the time of driving slower vehicles that they do infact increase their driving skills to cope with the situations they will get them self in. This is generally true however, a hoon as stereotyped will gain more experience and become a more skill-full driver then your average soccer mum...Skill is not the road to safe driving however, it is your mindset that will get you in trouble or keep you out of it - it is in no way related to vehicle power. The idea behind the restricted vehicle scheme is simply to reduce the potential crash speed. When they do make a mistake they may just be able to walk away from it compared to if they were in a performance vehicle.

To say that everyone else (the naturally sensible drivers) is being punished is pretty naive also...As above the teenage mind is very vulnerable, you are much more likely to be talked into stupid things (or try to impress others) at a young age- again driving a slower vehicle will reduce the potential crash speed if you do get yourself in trouble. By the time you hit 25 you will have matured as a driver and will have the ability to comprehend the consequences of your actions. The idea is not to say your now 25 you can drive a performance vehicle to its limit, it is the understanding that your mindset will have changed that you dont feel the need to.

It is not a perfect scheme but to say it is stupid is just plain....stupid.

Power to weight ratio is alot smarter, and makes more sense, as opposed to banning turbo and v8.

My mate lost 3 points in his first week of acquiring his P's, because he was driving their family's 199x Audi A4 1.8L Turbo auto 110kw. They owned it before 2007, but he had to get an exemption still or something which he was unaware of.

But yea, 110kw A4 is illegal to drive, but 184kw Falcon is legal?

The laws have serious issues, but I doubt are gonna change, so SR20DE for me for the win.

Like I have previously stated, in my opinion if you drive like a dickhead when your young, your most likely going to drive like a dickhead when your older too.

I don't agree .. ... I did stupid shit in my younger years of driving, I am not going to deny that, but as I got older (and had a child mind you), I realised that doing stupid shit on the road didn't really get me anywhere , and I would like to live my life, rather than cut it short for being a dickhead.........

MOST (not all) but MOST p platers I experience on the road are dickheads, and until they show me otherwise, i will have this opinion.
Just tonight in fact, I nearly had an accident on the way home from dropping the BF off to his place.

A p plater was sitting on my ass most of the way, being a complete dickhead and being very erratic (sp) (now it was raining and was very slippery). He thought he could beat me, and dive down a side street to get in front of me. Guess what, he didn't even look as he pulled out of the side street, and slammed on his brakes, I had to serve into the next lane (which was empty thankgod) otherwise I would have hit him. As it was wet, he slid ...

I often see this, on a daily basis in fact. ... Most young kids these days think they are indestructable, hence thinking they are gods on the road.
Sorry but they don't have enough experience IMO ...

This arguement / discussion about P platers will go on and on forever and a day. You should all just accept it and move on.

Seriously dude are you retarded? I don't think you should be allowed to drive fast cars if you cant grasp this simple concept. The new restrictions are there for a reason because younger people (hence the under 25 thing) usually are more prone to doing silly things, combine that with inexperience and it doesn't always end well. Sure there are probably heaps of P platers that are responsible and could handle a quick car (hell I had a tt soarer on my 18th bday and didn't crash it and I know many others in similar situations before the rules came in) but then there are some that cant, the government cant predict the future or test each individual persons mentality towards driving so they need a blanket rule. Sure the laws could be changed to factor in power to weight ratios but that all takes time and resources, without knowing I would hazard a guess they will soon follow suit of other states and implement this so you guys have less to whine about.

If you were you're just as bad as a p plater.

Your level of retardation is rapidly reaching Khubner levels.

Any EXPERIENCED driver knows at ALL TIMES what is going on around them. If some twat is darting around behind you, of course you are going to keep an eye on them, you would be a total cock smoker not to.

Little trick, you should be able to (mentally) close your eyes at ANY given time while driving and be able to tell another passenger in the car where EVERY vehicle is around you.

Even IF she was sitting in the right hand lane, this is NOT the "fast" lane as you put it. It's not a race track.

The mentality of you is 100% typical of a p plater and thus the reason why restrictions are now in place.

The "fast" lane as you put it, STILL has the same speed limit of the one next to it and sequential lanes to the left of it.

Sure there is a law regarding keeping left if the speed limit is 90k or more, that's as far as it goes but.

At no point does being in the right hand lane have anything to do with the dumb fuck attitude that you are portraying here that is typical of a p plater.

Good point, I suppose I have just been looking at my personal experience and how the laws seem stupid to me personally, for instance, I haven't had pissed mates in the back seat of my car telling me to go faster for a long time. Most of my driving occurs either to my job or to various places with my fiance, none of which involve doing stupid shit on the road.

The same could be said for me seeing no correlation between age and the desire to hoon, In my PERSONAL EXPERIENCE I genuinely see more older drivers doing stupid shit on the road (speeding, tailgating, skids).

Anyway, a few more weeks and I can sit here and type about how P platers are the scum of the earth and how they should be limited to 1.6 Litre shopping trolleys despite their being a large contingent of car enthusiast among them that won't do stupid shit in a busy street.

You're so closed minded its not even funny. You see two older people speeding and suddenly every regardless of age is a hoon. Yet, because you're a safe driver with you fiance in the car. Most P platers are good sensible drivers. Nevermind the fact that yesterday two kids were street racing at 160 in an 80, one with a 7 month old in the car. Two nights ago, 4 kids were killed in a WRX (Yes, that P plater was driver a turbo car...) in a suburban street. Sure. Sometime I do the old small chirp leaving the lights, or get to the lights fast. But, Not in a long ass time have I found myself doing 160 in a fucking 80 zone. You'd be hard pressed finding most older people doing 120 in a 110 zone.

IN my personal experience with more then 5 years on top of your driving experience. I have seen more 17-21yr old kids doing retarded speeds in 60-100 zones.

What stupid response you gonna come back with that? How I missed the point. Etc. Btw, Its not how you magically become mature at 20/21 (Cause, lets face it. You're a perfect example of closed mind P plater with 0 experience outside of driving from your parents place, to work, and back) Its that you have more experience in different conditions, and in traffic, and may have a little more sense then a shoe box when you decide to put your foot down.
