hey fellas

i'm new to this forum so first of all a bit about me... my names stu and i'm waiting on my 92 180sx to be complied (only 5 more days! biggrin.gif ) anyway, i have a question regarding the steering wheel thats on the car at the moment. The wheel is an aftermarket one installed in japan (nardi touring, very nice  ) i rung up modifications and i was told that if the steering wheel was on when the car was complied then it passes standards so it's legal, but that seems odd cause you can comply a car with a pod filter which isnt legal...? anyway my question is, does anyone know for sure the legality of this? i've heard some people say all aftermarket wheels are illegal. i really like the wheel so i'd love to keep it, it'd be a shame to have to replace it with a standard one.

anyway thanks dudes, see you around the forum!

if it is 14" or bigger it is legal in aus. as for pod filters, if it passes emitions and noise tests it is also legal. i just went through a whole roadworthy on my car and came across these issues...

Rules for steering wheels as per modifications qld book:

Steering wheels fitted to vehicles manufactured after 1970, may only be replaced by a wheel which has been tested to comply with Australian Design Rule 10A when fitted to that particular vehicle.

Vehicles originally fitted with a driver's side airbag myst not be fitted with a replacement steering wheel unless it is supplied by the manufacturer as an option for that model.

The diameter of any replacement wheel may be up to 25mm smaller than the original wheel but must not be less that 350mm.

and there is only one brand that i know of that's wheels are a.d.r.'erd so 99% of after market steering wheels are 'illegal'

hasn't stopped 1000's of others though!

nardi make some of the best lookin wheels around though

hey fellas, thanks for the replies,

i spoke to modifications again and got the same story, they also said that saas and autotechnica steering wheels met adr's. But i guess as long as it passes a roadworthy with the wheel attached it should be ok?

NO! Dont ever think that, because you can get a bodgy roadworthy, or something might be over looked. If traffic go over your car, and find something, then stiff shit. Id say get it changed to something that does pass.
