I just picked up a new headliner for my ute. I got it from C & G autos, it looks to be good quality and at a cheap price as well.
Only problem is i have no idea how to install it, has the metal ribs btw and its a HJ kingswood.

Joel you put yours in the qee, do you have any advice?

Stretch, stretch, and stretch it again. Then start at the front, Glue the edge and tuck it into the hooks where the front windsheild sits then glue the side edges, Tuck them over the seam and put your pince welds on. And keep repeating on the other edges.

I'd recommend having a mate there to help and removing the front windsheild helps a funk load too.

yeah i ordered fiskes. they were reasonable value for custom spec'd lightweight race wheels except the cunts at DB schenker decied to whack $900 in handling fees on top of the shipping price.. absolute funkwits. so yeah, $2400 wheels ended up closer to $3700 inc. exchange rate at the time..
will just get UPS delivered to my door next time.

cars looks like this now.

the wheels i got, FM10's i think they are called?

Rust has been cut and plated in the XB - some rare spares bits where it was really bad, rest of it just old falcon panel steel hammered to shape etc.
Same with the missus valiant - tho it was a much larger job, being a rusty old valiant. Val is completely stripped down a doorless, glassless shell - only the dash frame is in it still. Prep and paint on it asap - half of its in etch at the moment.
XB will be next.

Up to the paint stage on mine too. Really just have the paint, new wheels, brake booster (going for one hooked up to the power steering pump so I don't have to worry about vacuum) and exhaust to worry about, then I should be able to bolt all the trim etc on and get it on the road.

Engine and driveline are good enough for now. hsdance.gif

Couple of pics...

New suspension

And how it sits now... 'scuse the paint and wheels!

Old one of the engine

suspension looks porn.. will be great with paint on it! i'm so sick of bodywork now..
is that a centrifugal supercharger/carb setup?

-Jordan-
Post #3652

Will be glad to never do bodywork again - have finished all the rust repairs and a fair way through the sanding, so hopefully onto actually doing the paint soon.

And yeah, ProCharger with blow through carb setup - love the sound! haha

Don't have many pics of the engine cause it's always dirty.

Agreed - those suspension components look brilliant - Will be a very impressive machine to drive id say.
And yeah the bodywork can be a tiresome thing... Its one car after another for me at the moment. XB, then Val, while doing the EB, and i want to tidy up my daily too. Im constantly covered in dust.

Hmm not really i guess. Last couple of times I simply handed my car to 'professionals' i received a sub standard service - thats why im trying to just do it all myself. So no i wouldnt have it any other way - its a sh!t load of work, takes a lot of time, and yeah it is cheaper doing it yourself but its a lot to try and learn and figure out. Ive probably painted 5 or 6 cars from start to finish so im getting pretty good at it if i take my time and stay focussed - pay attention to all the little details etc.

It is a production line, man. 1) Valiant - finish prepping body, then paint. 2) XB - finish prepping body, then paint. 3) EB - finish fibreglass repairs on bodykit, prep then paint 4) XG daily - repair some panel damage, prep then paint.

THEN its onto the mechanical side of things, and sorting out interiors. But i really want to get the paintwork out of the way first - ive moved house and dont have the vehicle storage that i used to. Hence the production line. I need a 6 bay shed.

WOW! No wonder its been so dead in here lately everyone is off working on their cars haha
Ive too made some progress in the last few weeks-
The XC's body is finally ready for colour but wont be painted until after Xmas (The guy doing it wont have time until then)

Im starting on the Interior now, Just made up new door cards and in the process of covering them, also making a new roof lining while im at it, and just touching up little things like getting the original clock and radio in it and mounting a new cd playing in the glove box things like that.
Also got all the lights sorted except the indicators, but should be an easy fix, probs just a ground or something. All the dash lights are now working as well!

Then ill start buying the last few bits I need over the next few months then after I get back from Japan next February it should be done!
Finally feels like im getting somewhere now that its all straightened, primed and back together! Looks like a car again.

On a other note, Does anyone on here do auto trimming? or know of someone that wants a cash job?
I dont really have the 2K Im getting quoted to have my seats done so hoping I can find it cheaper haha

If I cant im thinking of getting new leather falcon seats and modding the rails to fit, but dunno if theyd look right, not having a classic look and all.
heard of one guy putting a full FG interior in a XB coupe but cant find any pics.

What does everyone on here think of new model interiors in older cars?

I have BA XR6 seats in my XB and Maserati seats in my Camaro, haha, but I don't really care about originality etc when it comes to interior.

I don't think either of them look out of place personally and not too worried about what others think.

Best pic I have of both at the moment...

Yeah Im not going for originality either, Just like the look of the classic styled seats. But the prices im getting quoted I can get New leather seats for less, and they probs be a lot more comfy haha Do you just have the original seat in the back of your XB?

Yeah, just black leather with the middle fold down armrest for the back. Didn't look out of place with the black leather Maserati seats in it and the plan was to get the leather covers for the XR6 seats, just never got around to it.

I did have original XB bucket seats at one point - the XR6 seats are ridiculously more comfortable, haha.

lil_bobby_260
Post #3661

XB bucket seats are getting bloody hard to find in useable condition these days. Everything seems to be in bloody Victoria.
Im not normally one for worrying too much about originality, but i like a car to be... coheiseive? Like all suit the one theme its built around, you know? Those XR6 seats would be a marked improvement, but yeah id be having them trimmed in leather like you said, or even throw a set of black sheepskins over them for the time being. The bucket in my XB dont match the rest of the interior trim so im just doing the sheepskins for now. Will go with the rest of the car anyway - venetians and grampa visor and stock wheels etc. They can be a cheap way to make any front seats look like they belong.

I'm also finding that everything is in Melbourne/Vic or anything decently priced is. Lol. Me and the old boy have decided to get her running properly first. He wants to fix up the old tired 186, I want to just rip it out and replace it with a nicely warmed over 308 or 350.....
