never have had much luck with the old vinyl dye myself , bloody stuff seem to wear off (VHT brand) on things like door cards , sunvisors , seats . I always clean whatever really well first and it looks good for the first couple of months then it all goes to crap . mental note to self check the shed for a dash pad for Jeb

yeah, it "Should" be fine as all parts were thoroughly prepped, i used the motor spray brand, the plastics came out great, not bad for a couple of hours work

As you may or may not know. I used vinyl spray on pretty much all of my interior and it all looks good so far. The only thing I'm having problems with is the steering wheel. Obviously because im in contact with it for long periods at a time and probably because I put a quick layer of clear over it and it's a bit sticky.

If I wasnt so busy drinking JD Jeb I would look for that dashpad

Replaced a timing belt, seals, idler pulley and tensioner, P/S pump, 2x CV boots, rocker cover gasket, 2x rack boots and a few other random things on a funking Camry.

Vinyl Dye from VHT works well, if its not working for you, you're doing it wrong...

I have had my sun visors painted in vinyl dye for over a year now and they still look as good as they did when i first painted them. smile.gif

Also, bought a YT head off of Nick. 161, High comp, YT valves, adjustable rockers etc etc... Gunna get that decked a flyshit and blasted, re-assembled etc..

try using VHT dye on high wear items and see what happens lol .

Don't know how much luck i'll have here but i'm trying to track down my Granddads old FX sedan. He bought the car brand new, my mum grew up in it and when he passed away the car was sold to a guy that lived down the road from my Uncle at Loganlea. I'd love to find this car and get it back into the family but even if we couldn't buy it just know that its still out there cruising.

Heres the only pic i've been given so far.. My Mum has no pics of it at all and i got this from my Aunty. It seems there wasn't much interest at the time in taking photos of it..

Anyone know roughly what a 245 hemi, 265 head, 350 holley, 4 speed would be like on petrol? 2 door ute specifically, if weight means much between ute/sedan/wagon etc

I get 500k's to a 75l tank in a HQ Sedan, jetted up 350 Holley, if yours isn't cammed or anything it should be around the same.....

Be-Hating
Post #3619

500ks?

Yaris's aren't even doing that!

Joyrid3r

Ok cheers

Old mate I'm looking at buying off, reckons he got from Caboolture to Gladstone on a 70L tank and still had 1/4 tank left, he seems honest and old fella, but that sounds like bullshit to me

its going to be period correct

DeadSled
Post #3631

Plans for it are (obviously) a roadster body, running a Model A grill shell, full aluminium louvered hood, satin black, aluminium louvered deck lid.. black '40 Ford wheels on bias ply tires, either cream or ox blood red interior, 21 stud flathead v8, '39 merc gearbox, '48 merc rear end, juice brakes, 4" chopped windscreen.. few little niceties here and there that i've got stashed away.

Basically as Jeb smartassely said above, something that would be correct to a late 1940's california era style. A very much bare bones, no bullshit, only whats needed Hot Rod.

Edit: I would say "brave" would be more correct, seeing as i haven't just picked this thing up the other day you know.. i've had it for a number of years now but sort of halfway done so now i can get the body together, finish the last few bits on the chassis, swap the banger for the v8.. and finish it biggrin.gif

I don't really care if people think its funny taking the piss out of my whole "period correct" deal. I couldn't give a sh!t, i like cars from an earlier time in history, and i like to use parts from that era.

You can give me sh!t all you like, but be funked if i'm going to put something from a Commodore, an L300 van or a Torana into my Hot Rod.

I think most people think its funny to take the piss cause you get fired up about it so easy bro . I for one love to see something a bit different and I respect anyone ( well maybe not minitruckers ) that's willing to have a go and make something that's out of the ordinary

The thing i love about the early style cars is that they are so simple and that they remind me of a simpler time in history.

You can jump in an early style hot rod, with a flathead of course.. and go haulin down the road and if nothing else is around it really makes you feel like you've jumped back in time. Its really cool.

Hey guys, thought some of you might be interested in this, 1960 something Ford Galaxie 7 litre, auto and what looked like factory air con. Might be waiting for a new owner, looked pretty straight and decent resto condition

nightcrawler
Post #3638

nearly bought something very similar to that but in a darkish green years ago , it was running a 390 and auto , the old bloke who owned it had it from new and wanted $5000 for it , problem was it needed another $5000 thrown at it to make it a nice car , still I couldn't afford to run the bloody thing as it got about 5 mile to the gallon .

DeadSled
Post #3639

Can tell you that that Galaxie is definitely not for sale. The owner of the BP owns it. Has already been enquired about.

Probably should remove where it is located as well, would hate to see it stolen!
