well i just picked up a new car to add to the collection..
bought a 1600 gt mk1 capri that had sat in a shed for the last 22 years..
it should be up from vic within the next 2 weeks so ill get some photos of it up.. aswell as the v8 capri project.

also i have the opportunity to buy a 250 crossflow engine out of a cortina (been freshened up) with a rebuilt gearbox (i hope its a top loader but doubt it).. anyone know what one of these would be worth? or if there is much demand for selling it?

Ben,

You are right. The Roadster will be considerably easier to do than the EK. I just wanted this done first and i'm still collecting parts for the roadster. Aside from a steering box / column mount, pedals and shock mounts, the roadster is pretty much factory original minus the fenders and juice brakes.

Now that it looks like we are buying this house with this shed, I think I might bring my 27 Chev Tourer project down and start on her again.

Once I finish the Monaro of course :mamoru:

Sneak pics of said shed:

Damo,

Once again, completely agree mate. Being that i'm into cars from the 30s - early 60s mainly (i do appreciate 70s, and i LOVE my Kingswood to death..) i not only know about the cars i own, but i know a huge amount about anything Ford from the 30s - 60s, as well as a lot about 40s and 50s Chevys. Not so much about Mopar stuff, although i do know a fair bit still about them as far as the engine and gearboxes are concerned (Great for Hot Rods ).

I also know more about a Flathead V8 and a four banger flathead than even some old guys i've met.. as well as a lot of the history stuff such as various customisers and painters from the 50s and 60s (Larry Watson, Gene Winfield, The Barris and Ayala brothers, Bill Hines ect) and i know a LOT about different ways of customising a car, what things are specific to different eras, how to actually go about doing custom stuff to a Hot Rod or a Sled and i'd like to think i have a very good idea on what is traditional, period correct and "timeless" which a lot of people seem to have forgotten these days.

Good to see someone as young as yourself interested in the old school and retaining vital information too.

Pissfarting around on forums like HAMB, YellowBullet etc has given me some really good ideas, and even better, good knowledge of early American Muscle/Customs/Rods, stuff I didn't know and other stuff that backed up what I had learned already. Some amazing stories on those forums.

I've learnt more on the HAMB than anywhere else. That place is incredible for people like me who love early period style cars. The wealth of knowledge and experience there you just can't find anywhere else.

Love that shed Ben, even if you only buy the house based on the shed it'll be money well spent! :P

That's no way to treat n El Camino... :mamoru:

Just moved a couple of my EH's so that I can buy one...1959, red. Been after this one for a while, so had to make a choice on what stays and what goes. Still, it'll be worth it once it's in the shed. Only have 3 to wash, polish, maintain and drive now. :P

Can't wait till our new one is up, 2 bay + workshop + carport.

I'm pretty happy with the carport that i've got. Its a 2 bay with just the EK at the moment, and a rear cut of an ek on the other bay along with my welding bench and toolboxes.

Anyways whos thinking of checking out the State of Origin Wild Bunch at the nostalgia drags in 2 weeks time. Few of the old blown sedan heroes from the 80s and early 90s will be fired up in anger once again!

I cant wait for the Nostalgia Nationals!!! Bringing back the State of Origin Wild Bunch is absolute GENIUS!
Wild Bunch was huge when I started going to the drags around 20 years ago...gonna be AWESOME.
I have a media pass, so I'll be out on track, nice and close to all the action. :P

And to all the fools out there, the 202 IS better than the 186. (one of my favourite arguments)

Harsh!! :P

Having said that, mine is a mix of both. 186 block...202 12 port head.

Are you gonna put in another offer?

We had to play hardball to get our house years ago. We offered them 200K neat (asking price was 225K) knowing they would knock it back. Then we hit them with 205K, they refused it, told us they didnt want anything under 218.
We waited a week, then offered 210K. Again they said no, so i told the Real Estate agent that that was my final offer and to tell them to go get fucked. (in those exact words!)
We really loved the place though, but i just sat and waited for 2 weeks, and the agent rang back and told us they would consider another offer. Luckily i knew the agent quite well, I was good mates with his son through school, and he told us the vendor had another house in Brisbane lined up and needed the sale to go through, but they were banking on us coming in with a higher offer when we were negotiating 2 weeks prior and nobody expected us to walk away from the negotiations.
I told them $210, 500, they unhappily accepted, but we won and we moved in on the 18th June 2004! :P

Play hardball Ben, put the years of old school car enthusiasm to good use - we're used to negotiating for cars and parts at swap meets! :mamoru:

Nope, was a multiple offer deal so there was someone else in the wings, once that person is accepted, no further negotiations entered into.

Copious amounts of cock sucking there but hey, I fucking told everyone the offer was too low...............

There are some other properties available in "less desirable" suburbs but to be honest, I'm over the whole looking shit.

Gives me more coin to spend on the Monaro I guess.......

$5k I believe he wants for it, slight rust under windscreen cowl, both tulips need to be replaced but comes with the replacement tulips, apart from that can't really tell you much more about it as its through a guy in our club.

No way mate, i dont understand how young blokes can get attached too newer cars. They just lack style i mean seriously, what in the world is attractive about a vs/r commodore. Sure there a great family car, but thats all they are.
Imo, the only way you get that passion is if you spend countless hours working on them and looking at them and talking too them haha.

That thread sounds good by the way.

I've noticed on this site especially, the amount of jap etc cars that are sold/ swapped so frequently. You see the same cars pop up all the time. When my Prem was being built (5 months) i thought about it everyday and what i wanted to do when i got it back. I love my car, it's 40 years old, has no a/con, has vinyl seats and the windscreen wipers are bearly worth turning on if i'm in it when it rains but i wouldn't swap it for anything. It's my car and will stay with me for another 40 years until i hand it down to my grandkids when i kick the bucket. If your passionate about your cars, you don't sell them, you just add to your collection when you can afford it or spend your money/time on your one true love.

Unsure on interior, probably, I know its missing front windscreen.

Think its LHD, but once again unsure.

Was 502 powered, ran 10.89 @ 122mph

No motor/box of course, and I believe its rolling, although unknown suspension.

Bought a shit box daily =/ So i can at least get back on the road and drive around for my new job.

And saving up for a project, Im thinking i might do a car that could be worth a fair bit of $$ after its finished. Something far better then a kingswood.

Ideas anyone? preferably 70's.

DeadSled
Post #59

What do you have in mind?

Nothing wrong with a Kingswood, they are great looking and easy as to do up and turn into a tough streeter.

lil_bobby_260
Post #60

Mate anything with chrome bumpers and two doors from the 70s is a good place to start. Theyll only ever appreciate in value. Actually i would say most 70s cars that had the option of a V8, whether they had one fitted or not, are going to continually appreciate.
Rarity and desirability will obviously dictate what you will be able to move it along for in the future, but will also dictate what you pay for it now.
Peronally, i wouldnt buy a car with the intent of making a profit down the track. Where is the passion in that? Buy a car that when you get it home, you want to just spend hours in the shed, on a shitty chair, with a beer, just looking at it.
"love the beast' haha...
Buy a car that you will enjoy for what it is, not for what you can sell it for.

For a car to be worth a "fair bit of $$$" you've got to spend alot on it. If you want to get it right, practice on something not so pricey for the first time as we all make mistakes.

Where is 'here'? My VT has an ecotect in it, but i bought it not running, and has the top half of the motor missing ie. has no inlet manifold or injectors and rail etc, and even has a head missing :oopsie:
So surely between the two motors.. ill manage something!
Howd you end up with an ecotec? any idea at all on what it would be like?
And... whats it missing?
