are you getting a GTI (petrol turbo) of TDI (diesel turbo) i thought you could drive turbo diesel vehicles on p's like turbo diesel 4WD's being not a performance car/ engine. but the cops will probably say "its still turbo'd" its shit get a TDI rip the badge off the back and put a 1.6 badge on it, those TDI's still haul arse.

here's some info that i have downloaded from the dept of transport QLD:

What types of vehicles are restricted?
Provisional P1 and P2 licence holders are
restricted from driving the following types of
vehicles:
• vehicles with eight or more cylinders
• turbocharged vehicles (except diesel)
• supercharged vehicles (except diesel)
• vehicles with an engine output of more than
200kw
• vehicles with a rotary engine above 1146cc
• a modification to the engine of a kind that
must be approved under the Transport
Operations (Road Use Management-Vehicle
Standards and Safety) Regulation 1999,
section 30.
To check your vehicle's power specifications go
to the vehicle manufacturer's website or a car
guide website such as www.redbook.com.au or
www.carsguide.com.au.
What if I drive a car which has a small engine
capacity that is fitted with a turbocharger?

The following vehicles are exempt from being
classified as a high powered or performance
vehicle due to their engine output:
• Daihatsu Copen L880 Convertible Turbo -
659cc (2003 or later)
• Smart Fortwo Coupe 2D Turbo3 - 698cc
(2000 or later)
• Smart Fortwo Cabriolet Turbo 3 2D - 698cc
(2000 or later)
• Smart Roadster Turbo 3 2D - 698cc (2000 or
later)
• Suzuki Cappuccino 2D Cabriolet Turbo - 657
or 658cc (1992 to 1997)
When do power restrictions apply?
This restriction applies for the full provisional
licence period (P1 and P2 stages for drivers
under 25).
What if I obtained my provisional licence
before the changes were implemented?

If you already held a valid provisional licence
before the changes were implemented the high
powered and performance vehicle restriction do
not apply to you.
What happens if I breach the high powered
and performance vehicle restrictions?

A monetary and demerit point penalty will apply.
Are there any exemptions?
Exemptions have been granted for emergency
service workers (Queensland Ambulance,
Queensland Fire and Rescue and Queensland
Police Service officers) from all restrictions while
driving in the course of their employment.
An exemption may be available from the high
powered and performance vehicle restriction
after individual assessment in the following
cases:
If the person needs to drive the high powered or
performance vehicle:
• to, or from, the person's place of
employment; or
• in the course of the person's employment; or
• to, or from, an educational institution the
person attends; or
• to get medical treatment for the person or a
member of the person's family;
or
The only car reasonably available to be driven
by the person is a high powered or performance
vehicle that:
• was owned by the person on 30 June 2007
and has been owned by the person since
that date, including the date of the
application; or
• is owned or leased by an immediate family
member of the person; or
• an immediate family member of the person
possesses under an employment or salary
package of the immediate family member;
and there is no other transport reasonably
available to the person; and a refusal to issue
the certificate of exemption would cause severe
hardship.
An immediate family member of the driver in
relation to the high powered and performance
vehicle restriction is:
• the person's spouse
• a parent or step-parent of the person
• a grandparent, or spouse of a grandparent of
the person
• an approved carer or guardian of the person.
Note: A spouse includes a de facto partner.
How do I apply for an exemption?
An application for exemption is available at
Department of Transport and Main Roads
customer service centres or from the
department’s website
www.transportandmainroads.qld.gov.au.
An application fee applies.

Contravening high-powered vehicle restriction - 3 points / $300
Failing to fit P plates - 2 points / $160
Failing to produce certificate of exemption for driving high-powered vehicle - 1 point / $160

Plus you'll probably also cop:
Failing to comply with condition stated on driver licence - 1 point / $100
Driving a motor vehicle that is defective but not unsafe - 1 point / $100 (because they'll most likely find something to defect you for just for the hell of it)

And GTI's stand out compared to normal Golf's. Also, since the cops use them I'm pretty sure they'd be able to tell the difference.

If I was a little rich kid I'd wanna get a new GTD.

Well the "penitle" for driving a turbo car on your P Plates SHOULD be a 6 month loss of license and can only get it back when you go back and learn English, and pass a written and oral exam.

Dude its not worth it
if you get caught you lose your licence
If you crash
you DO NOT get insurance, Just say your girl friend or best mate is in the car with you and you crash
he/she hurts themself really bad needing ongoing surgery you are forced to pay for that
and we all know how much hospital bills are.
+ you do not have a car or a licence to drive one oh and with out that you probs dont have a job

Gagginforit
Post #28

It aint worth it, if your on your "P"s you will definately crash if the car is charged in any way. You will more than likely crash if your car is n/a. If you are going to try and be a cool mother fucker take my advice,

Buy lube, start putting things in your bum so it is ready for the ANAL DEMORALIZATION YOU WILL NO DOUBT RECEIVE!!!

Don't bother, you will get caught, once they have you in their database your license will be gone and you'll probably be hounded by the cops until you sell the car.
