1992 S13 CA18de. I recently bought this car not running.
Fuel pump does not prime, car cranks but no start. I have checked fuel pump for fault but it is fine. Fuse checked, OK.

Any ideas? From what I am aware of, the ECU sends a signal to the EGI Pump relay to power the fuel pump. The EGI relay in the fuse box clicks. The EGI Pump relay does not click. I swapped these relays around to check for fault but same thing happened.

Thanks in advance, hope we can sort it out.

checked the power/earth at the fuel pump relay socket?
the two black with white trace wires should have 12v with the ignition on.
black with pink trace goes to the ecu and should earth out under priming(when the ignition is first turned on) and cranking/running(CAS signal dependent)
If you want to manually start the pump, bridge the relay plug with a bit of wire between the black with white trace(12v) and the black with yellow trace(fuel pump +ve)

Since the problem persists when you swapped the relays there has to be a break/short/blown fuse in the circuit that controls the relay. Bridge the #3 and #5 terminals on the relay to get the car running for now but trace the #1 and #2 wires back and find out which one is the culprit. Make sure to disconnect the bridge when the car's off though.

I had a similar thing happen to my civic recently. Was still getting voltage on all relevant circuits, but the Walbro wouldn't prime. Turned out to be a broken fuse (broken not blown). It looked fine and there must have still been some form of connection to allow a trace of voltage but the break must have been causing enough resistance to not allow enough amperage to power the pump. Had me stumped for a few hours.

I used a multimeter to check for power at EGI relay and also EGI Pump relay. EGI has power. EGI Pump has nothing. IGN is on 2...

Unplug the relay and stick a paperclip in the plug joining pins 3 and 5. Then see if the fuel pump primes when you turn the ignition on. Don't leave it on for too long though. Just a quick check.
The relay should have numbers on the top of it so you know which pins I'm talking about. 1,2,3 and 5. If I could see a wiring diagram for EGI circuitry then I'd have a better indication of how it works. So if you come across a S13 service manual post up the link.

Check your alternator fuse too. I know from other cars if that goes then the fuel pump relay won't work as it feeds power from that circuit.

Cheers mongrel.

Righto if CA18 ecu's have the same pinouts as SR20's check for continuity between pin 18 on the ecu plug and either the #1 or #2 terminal on the relay. This is to check that the wiring between the ecu and relay is fine. If it is, then you've got a problem with the power wiring from the other relay pin (#1 or #2. The one that doesn't lead to the ecu). This power terminal leads to the 10a fuel pump fuse and then off to the ignition switch.

So pull the fuse out and check for power at one of the fuse terminals. Ground it to the chassis. Hopefully there's some trace of power here.

Check the bottom right two 10a fuses in the underdash fuse box too. They run to the ignition switch.

It's hard to diagnose a problem over the internet. But if this doesn't help then give that wiring diagram to an auto elecky and he should be able to work it out.

I know it says 200sx, but that is a CA18DET diagram, I wired my car with that.

that is correct so did i... as it is a british 200sx... which has a ca18..

Well I have no idea what is going wrong so I just re-wired the fuel pump.
