I think they are all different ... I've passed 9ks over, 1K over, 3.4ks over ... Never got done ... But then a friend got done for doing 3ks over & I got done for 15ks over ... Not saying each Van is different but I agree there is a bit of levarage there because of peoples speedos being 'out' from factory ... =\ Unless your a Speed Cam Van Police person, don't think you'd know 100% ...

ever think maybe your speedo might be out? either faulty or tire size issue..

Really? Is that just with the vans???

There is a set tolerance on all speed cameras in QLD now and it doesn't vary between speed limits (unless of course it's a school zone)

This is correct, I don't know why people are saying you wont get fined, My dad got done for 63 in a 60 zone while overtaking a truck going down hill.

Knock it off - that's the gheyest excuse/reason/scenario ever.

Let me guess.....that Elvis was driving the truck and waving him around as well.... and his VCT and turbo kicked in the same time as his NOS....

At no point was it ever an actual legal requirement to be 10%, it was just an unspoken rule between cops, and it was never actualy enforced. It was always possible to get fined under the 10% thresh-hold if the cop wanted to.

1km over is bullshit with speed cameras.
They will never do that.

Everything on a scale system/speedo.. whatever, have errors (Normally +\- .. a value). - Margin of Error.
Some have less errors than others...

yeah but im meaning as in you may have 225/50/16 and u get 225/60/16's for some reason? or even 225/45/16's... not as in changin the rim size, just height of the wall smile.gif

There wouldn't even be a difference of half a k in wall size.

If your 'honest assessment' of your speed was accurate, and you were in fact doing 65, you will not receive a ticket.

As has already been said, QLD speed cameras all operate under a set tolerance, which remains the same regardless of the speed limit in which it is placed. This effectively means that you can exceed the speed limit in a 60 zone by a greater percentage than you could in a 110 zone before being issued a ticket. 5k over is within the tolerance.

For all other infringements issued by methods other than speed cameras, there is also a tolerance, but this is a manufacturer recommended tolerance. You will not be issued a fine for travelling 1k over, simply because it is within the manufacturers recommended tolerance. Yes it is only a recommended tolerance, but manufacturer recommendations must be followed in Australia (not just QLD) in regards to equipment used for speed enforcement.

I'll also point out, that even if you exceed the speed limit (and tolerance) and a speed camera does in fact 'flash' you, it does not automatically mean you will be receiving an infringement notice in the mail. Fines are only issued to the top (X amount) percentile. Depending on the traffic habits on that particular day, it could mean that everyone who exceeds the tolerance is fined (on a day when the median traffic speed is particularly low), conversely on a day when the median speed is particularly high (perhaps as many as half the cars exceeding the limit and tolerance), the pre-determined percentile of those motorists will be fined, and those that fall below that line (whether they exceeded the tolerance or not), will not be fined.

rolleyes.gif u sure about that??

225/50/16 to 225/60/16 will create a 7.1% difference in speed. so thats 7.1km/h difference at 100km/h.. not "less then half a kay" like you have "informed us".. unless you were traveling at 10km/h (which would still be MORE then "1/2 a kay")

225/50/16 to 225/45/16 will create a 3.6% difference in speed..

so id like to know where you got your "wouldn't even be a difference of half a k" statistics from head_wall.gif

they let you speed if they follow you for a few k's before putting their lights on, so explain that? they should pull you over straight away then shouldnt they?

10% is what i normally go by, but still if i see a cop, or camera i slow below the speed limit just to be sure, very unlikely to get fined doing only 2k's over,

if u see a flash, then normally they have gotten you wink.gif

NISMOgemini
Post #57

you serious? head_wall.gif

cos they have to follow you for X amount of distance to judge your speed if there following and not using a radar device..

iv been followed for 2km (this was written on my ticket) and done for speeding and a burnout in the same ticket.. i didnt get on here fuckin moaning about it.. u speed 10% over or 1km over pay the fine and get over it

ASNZS on speedometer readings accepts 10% maximum inaccuracy. bring that australian standard to court and they will cry and dismiss you.
