Well in typical F*^# style, dear old Marcus Ambrose crashed his beloved Pirtec into the wall on top of the mountain laugh.gif on the very first practise lap today.

Maybe he had been talking to Bargwanna about the best lines to take through the top of the mountain. Better to do it on the first practice session than the warm up lap the morning before the race

or maybe he got sick of the new holden ute add and wanted to know if a ford would make more smoke smile.gif

Also not that Ambrose has also had to replace an engine.. if his replacement engine should fail, its Game Over for him this year.

after the 4th session yesterday wasnt the top 4 Holdens?

Castrol Perkins Motorsport's Steven Richards was 0.31 seconds back in second quickest spot, while HRT's Mark Skaife was third-quickest in 2.08.61 and PWR's Jason Bright fourth in 2.08.63 after being setting the pace for much of the session.

Here is my prediction for the final top 5 places come 5pm Sunday:-

1.) 15 Kmart Racing Team R.Kelly/G.Murphy Holden Commodore VY
2.) 2 Holden Racing Team M.Skaife/T.Kelly/J.Plato Holden Commodore VY
3.) 50 PWR Performance Products Jason Bright Holden Commodore VY
4.) 11 Castrol Perkins Motorsport S.Richards/J.Richards Holden Commodore VY
5.) 34 Repco Valvoline Cummins Team C.McConville/G.Tander Holden Commodore VY.

Personally I believe that the Castrol Perkins team of father and son, that being Jim & Steven Richards are the team to watch. Whilst I have tipped Murphy to win I wouldn't be suprised to see The Richards boys take it out. Also PWR with Jason Bright are also one to watch.

P.S. Position No.6 will be my 10" shot peened and polished crankshaft being placed in Dions block laugh.gif biggrin.gif tongue.gif . It's ok Dion I'm thinking a 30w should be a nice weight for the reciprocating mass tongue.gif

Less than 1 sec separating the top 20 qualifiers, should make for a great shootout this arvo. My money is on Jason Bright to take pole he was fairly quick yesterday just a couple of minor hiccups, but at the end of racing the aggresion of Murphy could see back to back victories....

Skaife is in 18th position. The broke a bolt in the Watts linkage and had about 10mins to replace it and get back out on track to get a good time to be able to qualifiy for the Top Ten Shoot Out. Unfortunately this then threw their set-up out and they were unable to make a qualifying time good enough to place them in the top ten for the Top Ten Shoot Out on Saturday (today).

The other HRT car driven by pray.gif pray.gif Sir Peter Brock (well I think he deserves to be knighted for his services to motorsport) is back in 27th position. It was interesting to note that there was only 5/100th's of a second seperating the top 5 positions from yesterdays qualifiying round.

The weather is forecasted to be fine all weekend, with a slight wind chill breeze. The PWR No. 16 is out of the race already after it hit the wall at the top of the mountain with only 60secs to go in yesterdays qualifiying round. It has a buckled floor, damaged roll cage, broken front chasis mount, broken rear strut tower just to name a few items.

Roll on the mighty roar of the General smile.gif

Skaife set a good pace in this mornings practice.. he also said the car was excellent... so come tommorow, watch him leap up the order early on.

Brock is a champ. I reckon DJR should have bought back Dicky for this race.. battle of the oldies... maybe someone could oblidge and recreate history with another rock wink.gif lol...

The Fords agian prove their unreliability in the konika-minolta race... although they did win it... they lost a lot of blue ovals in the process... i wonder how the winner would have handled another 20 laps or so... let alone 1000km.
seemed to be a lot of smoke coming out of it.

Yes so a F*^# should have won the Konica/Minolta race as there were 18 F*^#'s compared to 6 Holden's ohmy.gif . Just goes to show how F*^# are so cheap they give them to anyone, especially an AU biggrin.gif

On another note, this was brilliant to see was the race between Brock in his old A9X Torana (400hp), Skaife in the current VY HRT (600hp)and McConville in a current VZ SS Commodore (250kw). The VZ SS was given a 10sec head start over Brock in his A9X, and Brock was given a 20sec head start over Skaife.

McConville held off Brock by a good 10 seconds if not more, and Skaife managed to pass McConville at the end of Conrod under brakes. It really goes to show how/what it's like comparing old technology to the new and how road cars compare to V8 Supercars.

All jokes a side it was a fine effort by McConville in a stock VZ SS to hold off Skaife as long as he did and still keep Brock at bay too.

It would be interesting to see the same comparison with some F*^#'s. OK I lied, who cares about F*^# anyway tongue.gif

GO the mighty MURPH......(mmmmmm) Hopefully he will take the crown. If not I wouldnt mind seeing AMBROSE take the crown. OKAY OKAY I know. how can someone go for a FORD guy AND a Holden guy. WELL I have met both drivers and they are both real nice. They dont let all the publicity go to their heads. I like the person, not the cars. I work for Holden up here, but really dont go for either make. More the drivers. I am more a 4 cylinder type of gal. Turbos all the way for me. smile.gif Murphy is my all time Fav V8 driver, with Ambrose Second. So wouldnt mind seeing either of those to huni's win. thumbsup.gif

Boooooo hiss you suck tongue.gif (only joking)

How dare you call the best production car in the world, that being a GM Holden the same as a F*^# and only differ by colur. Talk about an insult to the NASA type engineering of the all mighty General biggrin.gif

Besides I haven't seen anyone "drift" better yet than a V8 at the bottom of Conrod straight sitting on 295km/hr when the brakes are hit and it starts to flick sideways. Now that takes skill to avoid going beach driving across the sand trap.

Gentlemen, T - 2.5hrs and counting

P.S. all the Top Ten Shootout cars were given brand new tyres as well because road work on the field behind had used blue metal dirt, and it had found it's way onto the track and it made their tyres look like Swiss chesse. Special dispensation was given for all teams to be able to do this that were in the Top Ten Shootout.

i think if hoon looses he should get a holden sticker on his CAR rear window for a month and KOTCJ he shoudl have a ford sticker on his rear window for a month depending on who wins..

Murph 4 the win thumbsup.gif
he has some tough competition though , noteably 1/2 the other drivers in the race
my favorite old school racer would be jim richards and favorite new school would be craig lowndes
i like both ford & holden , so doesn't bother me which 1 wins!
but as for imports bieng included in the race - i say go for it they sould have a seperate race
with imports vs v8s and in that race sure the imports will go well around the corners & in the 0-60 kph department
but i would love to see a 180sx keep up with a BA falcon down conrod straight , i think that would be rather funny actually , also the cost of parts they would go thru on raceday would be enormous , why do you think they use v8s at the end of the fast & furious movies ? because it's the climax of the movie and they want do show you something impressive & not a 4 cyl with over 18 gears & mad graphics on it lockd.gif
( i can see some people getting grey hair over this post)
