My housemate wants to get AWD so badly.

What car does he want ?

Since his budget is around $10000 - $13000 ... maybe VR4 ?

Anyway,

Is it good idea to buy AWD with that budget ?

Or, should he reconsider to look for other vehicles which has FWD or RWD ?

Your advice please biggrin.gif

I think awd is a bit over rated

AWD is very underutilized (or not utilized at all) by most drivers who don't know how to use it..

Such as turning a corner, with no acceleration, and loosing traction.. in an AWD car, the answer is to put the pedal to the metal and accelerate to get the traction.

Most people cant' grasp this fact, which I admit is difficult (and sure there's a bit more to it).. and they typically think an AWD car 'understeers' much like a FWD car.. but same rules apply..

But hey, with that budget I'd be looking at a GTiR maybe, or just a RWD car, because the better AWD car's will cost more than that.. such as the GT4, WRX, Audi's, etc biggrin.gif

<---------- you can get one of these for around the same price as a vr4 Galant or you can look at a gsr lancer but they are a bit more expensive i think. AWD is fun if you know how to use it.

Oh yeah, Subaru Liberty RS, right ?

I remember he was talking about it. biggrin.gif

I drive FWD but I also like AWD if I can afford one. 8)

My favourite AWD is GT4 or GTO

Ummmm ~~~ they look sweet ...

Anyway, yeah, for RWD vehicles, I like Supra, RX7, ...

Always, $ is the issue laugh.gif

It also depends what he whats from the car too (behaviour wise), he may end up realising its not what he wanted.....not that I have anything againt awd at all but a lot of the time its quite missunderstood. And that kind of budget isn't going to get him a great deal anyway unless he is prepared to spend extra on getting the thing properly checked out and all the bugs fixed (and there will be some, espically driveline issues with the age that VR4's and other older model / thrashed awd cars around). But they are good cars none the less and the liberty rx's are a great poor mans wrexxy tongue.gif
