As others and myself have said, there is no code for an intercooler. Check what they are actually mod plating, if anything it may be the structural change to the car if you had to cut some 3" holes or so for the piping to feed through.

1. Undo seat belt.
2. Open door.
3. Step out.
4. Close door.

just mount your intercooler behind your radiator support panel, no cutting, shorter pipes and cops think its a radiator if they dont open the bonnet up.

from my expreince, if you be nice to the police they will be nice too you.

yer the cops here are fuked, the intercooler is behind the front support panel , and then the radiator has been moved back , unless thats wat the mod plate is for , but millenium motorsport did the mod plate for the car ..

Mod plates are pretty much just a register that the job has been done and passed at that point in time, much like a roadworthy.

Funny times with my HQ in went a 253 an M20, got pulled over and the cop tried to tell me I had a 350 chev because of the Edelbrock manifold and wouldnt even look at the engine numbers. Told me the mod plate was specific for 253 only. The guy at Pineapple St was almost on the floor laughing when I got down there.

ok so if a install the inter cooler with out changing the structure of the front end im safe? i plan on putting aluminium mesh in front so its at least half hidden.
i thought id ask a quick question here in stead of starting another thread.
me and a mate are mucking around trying to learn how to heel toe on the down shift, just for kicks. ive found my accelerator is was to low to reach so is it legal to bend the accelerator peddle to bring it more inline with the brake?
i know what ya thinking why the fuck would ya bother? truth is just cause we can smile.gif

^^ Can you pull the accelerator up level with the brake pedal? Sounds like spring is rooted. You've probably got more chance of getting booked for having the pedals at different heights due to safety reasons

Hmm i was told by a copper if i had cut into the car to fit my FMIC they could take it off the road.

ok lets clear up this cutting holes for cooler piping

if the hole is less than 100mm than it is fine (providing its not cut through the chassie rail)

if the hole is over 100mm than it need reinforcing

if u have to cut the metal bumper reo than thats illegal straight away

as for mod plates

when u get a mod plate u get a dot approved bit of paper with what has been done and what the engineer has approved YOU ARE TO KEEP THIS COPY IN THE CAR AT ALL TIMES BUY LAW (i suggest getting the copy laminated so it wont get damaged) so if a copper disputes it you have the paper work to prove it and not just a blue plate on the firewall

How long ago did Carlos do this mod plate?

Did you get him to do it for you or did the previous owner
get him to do it for him?

Maybe he changed things after the mod plate has been issued out?

ummm couldnt tell ya when he did it , as the car is in brisssy , but the previous owner got it done , just after he got all the engine work done to keep it legal ...

Not legal to modify pedals at all. I instigated this with our engineer as heel toeing in any manual Holden is an issue but it possible. For track days Ive made a small block which I can bolt to the accelerator pedal which makes it a bit easier for heel toe but is removed if driving on the street.

Ding ding. This is the key ladies and gentleman...and young kids.

Once again, it confirms that at the time it is legal, but there's nothing stopping you from then making changes, hence the reason police can still issue a defect if they believe it fails to comply with the relevant legislation and regulations. Now, if it still is legal, you shouldn't have any problem presenting it at the Pits and having it cleared and the infringement dropped.

i don't know much bout the whole front mount intercooler thing.... but... wouldnt the mod plate to do with the intercooler be to do with emissions control??? and wen u change the standard intercooler u would kinda need the mod plate to say that now that its change still complies with the emissions thingo??? like plumb back bov's and the likes???

so really if u put on an aftermarket intercooler really u should have to get a mod plate regardless?? just to prove that it complies with the emissions stuff?? and the structural side of it as well?? and that would be wat these guys are gettin mod plates for which is wat i would think would be right???

and cops could still defect u for it even with a mod plate if u change the plated emissions stuff to say a venting bov instead of plumb back??

don't get me wrong i have no idea on this whole thing but just thinkin logically.... sounds a bit stupid to mod plate a actual intercooler but logical to mod plate it for all the emissions stuff true...
