dean sold it to sum guy that blew the tricked up 308 that was in it and he sold it to a car yard and then i picked it up

Havent decided on the turbo yet. Itll probably be a month before i make a decision and do something, no real rush, plus i just bought 8 new tyres (4 for the commo, 4 for the R31) so i'd have to save up for a couple of weeks for it anyway!
Doing its first oil change since the burnout day today, and checking plugs. Then, seeing as its raining, ill be heading out i reckon :-)

Does the VR still run the trumpets...?

FLMN HT
Post #74

nah man doesnt run the trumpets they were on the 308 that got blown up, its just got a standard 304 5L atm thats getting a bit of work done at the shop atm.
just a quick qeustion are you goin 2 willowbank tonight??
i'll be out ther with my r31 at the drift down the end of champions way, we just did my engine conversersion last nite finished doing it at 2am this morning and it kicked over first go, very happy bout that biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

go turbo!!! so i can buy your extractors tongue.gif

Yeah it was an Autech 260RS, in black, completely original right down to the BBS alloys. Nismo suspension etc. Had 66,000km when i sold it. NOW LOOK AT IT :-( it was like a new car.

Yeah im putting the cash aside for either a turbo or an RB25DET conversion. Then i'll repaint the thing, and have it engineered and roadworthied. Got sick of having to trailer it already.

Ideally, ill keep the RB30E in the shed and have the block rebuilt with forged and balanced internals, better oil pump, modified sump, and then fit the RB25DET head to it. That is the dream :-)

Drained the oil in the skyline yesterday - was normal, not even really dark. Plugs were clean as a whistle. Very happy with it.

^^Shaowy^^
Post #78

I wouldnt change the oil so often, just overkill.

Seems like your doing good things with the 31. Just bolt on a turbo and see how you feel before getting an s13, so 2003.

lil_bobby_260
Post #79

yeah i just wanted to dump it and refresh it just to see how it went as far as burning oil goes etc. It was the first time the car has really been driven hard, so better safe than sorry.
Itd be bloody expensive to do it after every outing.
I would have bought a 180 or something like that, but when you sit back and think - s13's are 20 years old now! Surprising how much people are still trying to sell them for.
Still undecided which way to go about the turbo setup. Thing is, if i end up with a decent RB25DET or 30DET in it, i can transfer that into a 180 bought cheap with a blown motor etc, so im not really wasting money on the 31.

pipster11
Post #80

you could just get a 25 with blown bottom end
run stock 30 bottom end and forge it when you feel like it (will be cheeper but take a bit longer)

can i have ur extractors? i really want some!!! i'll give you my stockers plz?

lol

but seriously?

Are you back up on the mainland yet pip?
Yeah you can have dibs on them - they havent even been fitted yet (bit slack) and they have a proper bolt on flange to suit the factory sytem if that helps.

haha your in tasmania, not alcatraz...

Trying desperately to find a different front bar for the R31.

pipster11
Post #86

front bar as in body kit?

get a shitty sillhoette bar and cut the bottom ~3-5 inches off
flip it upside down and screw it back on
or...

or...

Yeah ive looked into that... might be the way to go. Just want a more agressive front on the thing. Just for what the wreckers charge for a front bar, cheaper to get an aftermarket lip haha

FLMN HT
Post #88

took my r31 out for the first time to qr raceway on friday nite just gone went pretty good, but towards the end of the nite it started to cut out every time i changed from 1st to 2nd for sum unknown reason, maybe i need to put a surge tank in or it could need a new crank angle sensor not sure.

just a short run down on my conversion- took all the air con crap out from under the dash and off the engine, and ran a shorter belt for lil more power and less wieght not much tho but it didnt need to be there it came out, removed the fan off the pulley also the air con radiator and put a second thermo fan next the the original, put the manual wiring lume thru the old air con hole and made a bracket for the ecu in the glove box so it's simple to disconnect, cut the exaust off at the second cat and welded a 2inch dump pipe on gives it a pretty fat note, removed the smaller headlights so later i can make up some custom air intake later on, thats pretty much it.

Very nice! The drifter will end up with my 'gigedy' number plates no doubt, so if you see it out there, take some happy snaps! Will take it out once i have the stiffer swaybar fitted, and possibly the hydraulic handbrake. Just having trouble getting it to really kick out at the moment.
.
I can get a whiteline 27mm rear swaybar for $179 for it - what do you think?

pipster11
Post #99

not bad price
normally around $400 for front and back i think

lil_bobby_260
Post #100

Yeah i was fairly certain the price was good, im mainly asking about the diameter. 27mm is a decent bar to stiffen up the rear? What is standard?

pipster11
Post #101

dunno
standard is tiny tho
does it have adjustable ends?

lil_bobby_260
Post #102

No, not adjustable. I pretty well just called redranger and requested the stiffest bar they make for them.
Should I be getting strut braces also? Just that being an older car, and a larger car, id say there is a bit more flex in the chassis than in a lot of others. Anybody whos done an ebay search for R31 in cars, bikes and boats knows you can pick them up fairly cheap.

pipster11
Post #103

if you've got the cash for it why not
(dunno if the back one would be worth while tho)
how much is a front one?

lil_bobby_260
Post #104

Front or rear are always on there for $89 + about $15 shipping. Im not sure about the rear either, mainly because its right beneather the steel parcel tray but who knows.
There is a seller on ebay advertising R32 and R33 strut brace SETS for $89 a pair (so front AND rear) and they look exactly the same. Im waiting on a response as to whether they have one for the R31. If so, then it would definitely be worthwhile.

FLMN HT
Post #105

hey mate, just thought i put up some pics on how to turn your rear lights into hot-plates, seeing tho sum didnt come standard with them.
you just mask up a chopping board with masking tape overlapping it each time, i used a small plate for my template to cut out a nice neat circle out of the masking tape with a sharpe knife repeat this untill you have 4, and you have your stick on template to go on your lights, mask up around your light so you dont get over spray everywhere and stick on your templates then paint with black satin laquer, easy as
