i was trying to figure out if my june 1987 vl was a series 2 motor or not, for consideration of the turbo conversion.. just an idea in the back of my head.. and i realised, turbos spool off the exhaust right? so can a turbo work with extractors? since they go straight from the motor to the cat... now wouldn't a turbo setup have a manifold going to the turbo.. then the turbo back would be the exhaust system? :\ and how do i double check if my vl is a s2? |

Can't help you with how to tell whether your motor is a S2 or not. Since turbochargers ARE exhaust driven, they are mounted on a manifold leading straight from the exhaust ports to the turbine housing of the charger, which is (from factory) usually both cost effective to the manufacturer, and efficient enough for stock to moderately modified applications. If shooting for big HP, you would be aiming to mount a large aftermarket turbo, which would in turn require the use of a 'tuned length' manifold of either mild steel or stainless construction. Using 'extractors' in a standard turbocharged application will give little or no benefit. |

don't get a custom manifold confused with real extractors as most people do.....extractors are a custom manifold that has calculated lengths of tubing to ensure the best flow at a certain rpm..... |
