Brett Raymond Stevens, 44, of Narangba, faced Brisbane Magistrates Court this morning after being charged with six drug offences as part of a year-long police investigation. High-performance street vehicles worth millions of dollars were seized at Yatala yesterday with police activating 15 search warrants across the Gold and Sunshine coasts, Brisbane and in NSW. Mr Stevens is charged with trafficking, producing and supplying drugs was well as possessing drug property. The court was told shortly before his arrest authorities got a court order to freeze assets connected to Mr Stevens including his race car fabrication business, leaving him with no access to cash to mount a surety for bail. Magistrate Sheryl Cornack granted bail, noting Mr Stevens had known he was under investigation for some time and had made no attempt to flee. Ms Cornack also noted Mr Stevens' unusual hairdo, with bleached side panels marked with tracks and a dark centrepiece flowing down to a tail at the back. Did he do that voluntarily to his own hair, she asked. Mr Stevens is known for his drag racing success, having won several national championships in the sport since 1992. While i in no way condone drug dealing/producing/taking you would have to be completely blind not to realise that drugs (and crime in general) reach to the highest level in motorsport, and every level along the way. |
