Unfortunately, you will be very hard pressed to find a mech. that does not charge through the nose for work carried out on an MR2. Having removed an engine, replaced the clutch etc etc etc in an SW20 i can tell you from experience that they are NOT nice cars to work on.

I only know of ONE mech. that has had experience with a few MR2's. But he is down on the gold coast. It may be a bit of a drive, but i have seen the work he has done on these cars and the owners were more than happy.

His name is Scott Poppy, I beleive his workshop is in Expo Crt southport. (behind Von Bibra nissan)

Hope that helps.

By the way, i have a full workshop manual for the 3SGTE (direct from toyota workshop) If you need any help i am happy to do what i can.

Cheers

my car is 1996 model with a gen3 3SGE

but i'm having dramas with the wheels

i had the wheel bearings replaced but there has been a noise. Today the knocking got much much worse. I think its the backing plate hitting against something.

Are they factory rims? Could it be that the offset of your aftermarket rims is incorrect and they are hitting your brake calipers?

Any brake specialist should be able to help you with wheel bearing issues if that is what it is.

Is it from the front or rear wheels? Is it a knocking or a clicking?

not factory, 17's
i bought the car with them on and it wasn't making the nosie only a scratching noise on and off. i got the new bearing put in... started driving home when i could hear the scratching noise again coming from the front wheel i took it back and he said it was becasue the backing plate was hitting against something. He fixed it somehow

It was fine till today when it started making a loud knocking noise that was different to before.
