So it begins. The Nissan GT-R has taken out first and second place in its Super GT debut in Japan in front of more than 32,000 spectators.

Of the five GT-R derivatives competing in the Super GT opening race at Suzuka, three dominated the field in qualifying for a clean first, second and third starting position on the grid.

The race was eventually won by the number 23 XANAVI NISMO GT-R driven by Satoshi Motoyama and Benoit Treluyer, whilst Michael Krumm and Masataka Yanagida brought the MOTUL AUTECH GT-R home in the 2nd place.

The Nissan duo crossed the line less than a second apart after a grueling 52 laps, with the PETRONAS TOM’S Lexus SC 430 entry more than 25 seconds behind in third place.

Unfortunately for the CALSONIC GT-R which started from third on the grid, it was hit from behind on the opening lap and forced out of the race

Far out. It's taking over. This is pretty unfair for the opposition don't you think?

The Super GT series still runs on a weight penalty system I believe ...

So the higher you finish the more weight they will add to your car come next round to keep the racing tight.

But GT-R's were always built to win races, and it looks like the R35 is no different happy.gif

but isnt the super GT a JDM only race? so in retrospect there really would be much competition for it seeing as the next best cars would be an nsx, rx7 or supra, which are nearing 10 years old in technology.

still though, can see it dominating an international field. be awesome to see it beat porsche

Haha, sounds like Bathurst.

That's good though, competition like this brings out the best in car makers....or they just change the rules and ban the better car.

How far removed are these cars from their production cousins?

Like the NSX's, how much of the car is "GTR"? I dont know of any NSX that ever come out of the factory twin-turbocharged.

It is a great car and I guess the production lays the foundation for the race car, although they are so far removed from eachother.

Better race cars produce better road cars as the technology filters it's way down to the consumer
