Ok this might be a bit boganlike for you guys since its a commonwhore but

ive got a VH which has a tired old 202 in it and im contemplating putting a carby 308 in it with all the associated stuff like diff brakes etc. BUt i was thinking would it be viable to put a VN V6 into it for something a little different?

The cost i think (hope) wouldnt be a whole lot different (im thinking around 2-2500 grand or cheaper if i find a rooted VN) and the V6 would have more power than a 308 and have be more reliable.

Also it has to be a holden motor that i put in for simplicity and understanding by me biggrin.gif

Eager for any thoughts on this....

Thanx

ok call me silly, ok dont, but why put in a pushrod ohv brick when for approx the same amount you can put in something alot newer and more powerfull for the same amount.

Whats wrong with a VG30 Nissan V6?

or even the good ol RB25DET is a dam easy fit and the part as far as aftermarket are second to none!

Ok well there are conversion kits for the 3.8L holden V6, so it is easy. But also its cheaper to get more power out of the 308. Second the VG30 Nissan V6 especially the twin turbo one dont go it, (well it does but a genIII would near on be cheaper). An RB25DET or a 1JZ-GTE half cut plus conversion costs would be about $6000 less if you could do work yourself. Then you could always go the lexus V8 thats ment to be pretty good. But for cheap easy power go the 308.

I reccon I'd go the 308, conversion kits for the vn v6 are everywhere these days but the 308 will be cheaper to get in and cheaper to get parts and upgrades for. You'd want to rebuild either of them before you put them in and you'll cop a fair bit of power by sticking a pair of yella terra heads on the 308 and a set of lumpy tops.

Who needs this injection crap anyway! tongue.gif

I'd go the RB20/25DET, piss easy conversion to do, the main part you'd need is the crossmember from a VL so the engine bolts straight in.. apart from that it's just simple shit.. fairly easy conversion

RB20s are cheap as chips too

The rest of stuff is easy bolt on upgrade shit..

brakes, VL turbo ones if you can find 'em (don't forget your 1" master cylinder if you upgrade your front brakes)

diff (might need stronger than the 6cyl one) try and see if you can get your hands on a v8 10 bolt disc brake one, should be a wee bit tougher

May I also suggest getting the fuel tank from a VK/VL EFI..unleaded filler neck, plus could have built in surge tank as they're from EFI motors (can anyone confirm/deny for me?)

Plenty of shit out there good for upgrading commodores!

Yeah you need a VK/VL EFi tank etc for sure, if you went down the EFi motor track at least.
