Man what a crazy storm the hit this morning, was out driving with the gf and our dog, soooo much lightning. The storm hit sooo fast, was caught in torrential rain.Almost to the point were it was undrivable.
but by the time I got home, it had all passed and blue skies were coming back to what was then an amazingly hot day!!!

Here's a pic of some trippy ass clouds at from outside the house!

Thats called a Mammatus formation... They are formed when the dry air below the cloud warms faster than the wet air with the cloud in it, causing it to sag... You dont see that too often here! Nice capture

Thanks sidd, she'll look amazing when we get married. 3 WEEKS!!!!!!!

I don't really understand much to do with lighting and it seems to just confuse me :S
I really want to do more, would absolutely love shooting fitness models. Male/female. But no idea about gear?? And like I say these different flashes n stuff=mind blown haha there's only so much YouTube you can take till u realise its not sinking in. Haha

AH congrats on getting married smile.gif Not long now!! Post up some pics when you get them from your photographer.

Only way to learn is to experiment and keep taking photos. If you need help just ask away.

Start of simple. Buy a set of triggers and one flash. Experiment with one light source then build up from there.
You can get amazing results with just one light.
Heck you can get amazing results with even on camera flash lol..

thank you smile.gif not sure about posting up pics, I dont really like to show pics of myself...even on facebook my gf has to force me to load pics haha

I will do some more reading about it all, but I guess i'll learn more from actually just doing it..think she would be happier with me spending money on something like flashes etc as I would use them on her smile.gif

ummm, lens wise.what would be good?? ive got the kit lenses plus a 50m 1.8 and 17-40..on a 550d

SR33
Post #114

Maybe a canon 85 f1.8 lens (about 400-500 bucks). Excellent lens and great for portraits.

would it not pay to have some zoom?? or is it just more expensive?? also what mode do you focus with? i struggle with getting focus as in it takes me ages, moving around focus point etc, but isnt there a mode you focus then can move to compose the shot once you have focus??

what kinda flash would you recommend?? id be keen to get a little setup sorted..i was going to look at buying a 5dmk2 early next year but could spend that cash on some new gear smile.gif

Better to have the larger f/stop and prime sharpness...

On the crop body gives you around the 100mm mark, really good for portrait work, and primes are tack sharp, hard to go back from them... I have an 85mm you can borrow for a few weeks if you like, I tend to use my 100mm more because of FF

SR33
Post #117

You can purchase the 70-200 lens if you wish.

I just like the look from the 85mm lens for portraits.

Offcourse its called back button focus. Basically focus using the backbutton on the camera, then recompose the image then press the shutter button.
Saves you going thru all the focus points. Great in AI servo mode as well...Plus its where my thumb sits anyways so might as well use it tongue.gif

holy sh!t, have just been practising this back button focusing...and wow has that made things sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo much easier!!! thanks sidd smile.gif

if the gfs not too stressed after getting her dressed altered this morning I may go out somewhere with her and have a practise smile.gif

would something like the 430ex II $250 or 580 exII $450 be worth investing in??

SR33
Post #121

hahahhha no worries mate smile.gif

Just get a canon 85 f1.8 and 580exii if you can. Then get some cheap triggers and your set smile.gif

well the question isn't whether I can afford it, its more am I allowed it haha.....the boss watches the photography spending, i snuck in the 17-40 as I actually saved for it (and bought it online without her knowledge haha)

is it worth spending the extra on the 580 or staying cheaper for learning???

SR33
Post #123

Maybe get the cheaper flashes and practice on those.

The Yongnuo ones are great. Cheap as.. like 100-200 bucks max. One is quite similar copied design to the 580exii.

wow, thats waaaaay too many options tongue.gif now im confused haha

i will do some research on the type of pic i want to get into and see which way i will need to go...but end of the day may be no good, so I'll probably go one of those cheaper ones

here's two more pictures I got last night...it's quite fun, but you get mocked taking photos as at the ports it's seen a "gay" so it kinda takes the fun out'v it, hence the "rushed" kinda shots sad.gif

tell them to funk off...

I hate macho wank, and these industrial jobs are full of it.

"I like rugby and gettin spastic blind thill I cant remember what a funkin thrower I am on the weekends when I piss all my money up against a wall. Got a meet pie, vegies are for girls"

Keep that sh!t... I'll take photos on the weekend

Yeah at unfortunate really, but that's how a lot of "men" view things. It's just off putting that's all. My mates all like my pics, but the macho men just mock it. Like I say "it's off putting"

And i get put off, so the resulting pics will be rushed. I do still like these pics tho smile.gif

But with the above attitude, you can see why they're all divorced, scavenging the left over haga at their local at 2am.

I'm liking the "Rushed" shots. Dont look rushed at all to me haha. HDR im assuming for that last one??

If were talking about macho men, well call me a female then. I'm at uni to be bloody graphic designer haha.

bhunzz
Post #134

thanks ben, the last one is just in lightroom smile.gif with some selective lightening

at least graphic design is a career, I wish studied something..now I work job to job, no idea whats happening next and will probably have to find something new this time next year sad.gif

Ben092
Post #135

Is that all? Looks HDR! Brilliant stuff. I never really used lightroom until sidd said the other day it can batch edit, so i downloaded it. Bloody brilliant and easy to use if you want to just do simple edits.

Graphic design however is hard to get a stable job in your younger years (like me) Most are contracted work, which i hate. Just want a 9-5 job in a mundane office! So much to ask! haha

Also added you on flickr and liked your Facebook page smile.gif

bhunzz
Post #136

Thanks for the add ben smile.gif

I'm not sure about graphic design but i would assume once you've done the ground work and built a reputation then work would roll in?? but i could see why you would want a break

Anyway, on a whim I decided to enter my favourite image into the amateur loupe awards, aaaaand, exciting new was I got a SILVER award with the score of 82..so i'm very happy, after having the camera only since may this year smile.gif
