Car has been serviced, new tyres on the front (not as good as my AD07's sad.gif) and the damage will be fixed by the 4th. I'd say I'm 98% there biggrin.gif

guys, i'm looking at another set of rims for the sprint days.

do you think their would be much difference in the feel of the car going from a 18x8 to a 17x8 with semislicks?? I'm thinking the 17's so i have more options for tires?

I'm not totally sure with your car Jeff, but on my Astra Turbo there was not a huge difference between 18s and 17s, however I liked the handling more with the standard 17s. The 18s are only for the street and I'd use my 17s on the track with semi slicks for sure...but then my car was set up with 17s standard.

BTW...from the page before, yes that was me taking pics the other day. Pics are all on http://www.opticalnote.com

If the profile gets to big you'll feel the difference in side wall flex more then likely ...

But for the sake of costs the smaller wheel you can get away with the more you can spend on other mods rather then tyres facesjump.gif

with semi slicks you probably wont notice a difference in side wall flex as most semi slicks have extremely stiff sidewalls

you should be fine jeff smile.gif

now i'm having trouble finding rims with offset close the the stock rims, i'm thinking a change in offset is going to have more of an effect then the rims size......

yeah definately a starlet for circuit over an 86.......parts and purchase price of an 86 will hurt you

a starlet can be made to handle pretty damn well for the cost of a rear sway bar and a set of coilovers, also add a castor kit and you are done.

all starlets are FWD. even if your referring to the starlet GT. they have a 1.3T in them.

not true

the very first models were RWD (KP60 - 61) with K engine powah, often converted to 4AGE these days. we never got them in australia though (there are 2 in the country that i am aware of, i want 1)

another great cheap track car is the old mx5 smile.gif can be had cheap if importing and of course handle very well

mmm, :s im confised now... i like both, but i want to but i starlet, and i want to start drifting on the track.. mabye ill just think of getting a s14 :s what price range are they at these days?

jezza323
Post #544

even the RWD starlet (quite rare) would not be that good for drifting as they have a very short wheelbase

ah, i wasnt looking that far back. they would be interesting indeed.

mx5's are an awesome entry level track car. for what you pay, you wont get much that'll handle better stock. but on the drifting side, yeah short wheelbase makes it very twitchy and takes a great degree of difficulty. though there are two in brisbane that go out there a fair bit and they seem to do pretty well (besides a few wall encounters).

AE86x check out the drifting section, you'll find more answers there.

Nah you don't want to spin into the pebbles... unless you like the "sandblasted" rim affect

spinning into grass is all the rage though... I should ask for payment for all the grass cutting I have done over the last year or so biggrin.gif

the new tyres are a WAS old now, so should be more grippy (and ill get them rebalanced cos some of the weights fell off before WAS)
i will hopefully have a new clutch, and closer ratio box (still toyota gears but closest of the boxes they make which fit) with a 4.3 FD and LSD in it smile.gif
