Hey,

I'm new here and looking for some advice. I'm 17, one month away from finishing school laugh.gif and in the process of looking for a car, within the mere $3500 mark. I could keep saving but I'm tired of driving my mums Camry round.

I was thinking about a stock 85 + Cordia. I know the older leaded ones have 110kw (compared to 90kw) but they're just getting a bit too old for my liking.

Heaps have been driven hard but I figured if I could find one in good condition they respond well to mods (ie 2 1/2 - 3 inch exaust, boost, even an older but larger recond turbo... all the way up to a vr4 engine conversion).

What do you guys think? Is it a good choice? I heard that the mitsu gearboxes can be a bitch though. Shouldnt be too much to insure either... I think?

I would say keep saving, and put up with the camry. If you must even ask and do some mods to that. Just my thoughts, I can tell you now you dont want to be going out and buying a slower less reliable car than what you are driving now.

I seriously doubt a cordia 1.8l tc05 turbo GSR will be slower than a 98 1.8l Camry (auto mind you). But thanks for the post I'll keep it in mind. I just feel like I need my own car and not my mum's.

cordia's are nice, even if you get a gsl cordia i'd still pefer it over mummy's camry

I thought to too. I love their styling. Starions are good too but I've always liked the way Cordia's looked. I'm just worried about the name of the Mitsubishi in the reliability stakes and wonder if I will actually get a decent one for $3500 (or even down to $3000)

you will. i found several nice cordias and i actually put a deposite on a gc, looked after $2,500 ac cordia gsr but that week i got lucky and found a starion.

Personally, I've heard one too many bad stories about Cordia's, and I've also seen one too many cordia's in bad shape..

Certainly not a car you can boost up easily without having to fork out some money later.. plus a fast car that's FWD isn't really a good idea..

fwd's aren't that bad. Later model ones have no where near the torque steer of older ones. I have owned both fwd and rwd and honestly they handle completely differently but if u can adjust to what u r driving then so be it.

P.S. Didn't a prelude (fwd) keep up with u mcleod (silvia rwd) around mount cootha on a run one nite??

I'd buy a mk2 toyota supra. Espeially the two tone metalic blue ones. $3500 and you can have mine (ono)

Why not get a Sprinter?

They're cool!

Ask shane why not to get a sprinter. He should be able to talk about why not for an hour or so.

My 2 cents......Save longer and keep cruisin in the camry. When you get nearer to $5000 then you will have a much more reliable and 'neater' car. A $3500 car could end up costing you $5000 in repairs............

get a non turbo for your first car, less insurance (thats if you are going to insure it) geminis are good value and easy to work on, help to learn about engines and shit.
