just wondering i have a stock pulsar box in an n14 with a gti-r front cut n just about to work it a bit and know the current box will not hold up. any thoughts on wat to do had a couple thoughts if anyone can help. putting the gti-r gear box internals in my current box or getting the 1st 3 gears dogged any how much that would cost roughly.

Thanx Guys

Dog boxes generally cost upwards of five grand man. It might be cheaper if you only do the first 3 gears, but I doubt it, mainly due to labour costs.

as MAX452 mentioned....they are your cheaper dog gearsets. There's also Modena, Hollinger and Albins gearsets but the price goes up considerably.

What use for the car? drags? As far as i know, GTi-R boxes are pretty tough...it's the selector forks that are the weak link in them.

Mine cost just under $7K for PPG 1-4 including billet forks, a few bearings and interlocker kit.

PAR is the best for the SR20 fwd gearset. They have a 1st to 4th straight cut gearset retaining the synchros for easy shifting. Still uses standard 5th gear. I paid about $4500 installed for mine and it was the best money i spent.

On top of that you can get billet selector forks, 5th gear, and crown wheel. So it all depends how hardcore you want it to go that will determine the price.

They do have a Dog engagement gearset but if its a street driven car i wouldnt recommend it as the dogs need regular maintanace as they wear out after time.

Try the pulsar forums they have heaps of info about them thumbsup.gif

A dogbox is definitely overkill for your needs then.

i blew 4 standard boxes by just normal driving with the occasional midnight run. that was over $3000 worth of boxes plus labour if you cant do it yourself. thats almost the cost of a PAR gearset!

with the stocko box it WILL blow... its just a matter of time.

What boost did you blow your gearbox at?

Also, any u13 parts left over?

preety sure the gti-r internal's in ur std box will do the job good, straight cutting 1-3 is heaps more exxy

from memory it took a while but i think they have the parts on shelf... depends how busy they are. best thing would be to send a broken or spare box for them to build so your car isnt off the road.

the GTiR gearset cant be done as far as im aware of. it is alot of money to dish out, if you plan on keeping the car for a while and plan on putting over 200kw of power into it id get it done... id rather put money into a straight cut gearset than the replacement of broken gearboxes!

i wouldnt even think of dog boxes man... unless you want to be matching revs each gear and grinding the teeth alot. go with the straight cut synchromesh gearset if you do upgrade it thumbsup.gif
